Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

They will show the 360 version of the game before e3 and finally reveal the next-box version at e3, to reveal the new console.

And brains will be melted.

Two years ago, Microsoft bought back their x (insert year number here) events, reach was shown to press before a public unveiling, however, it seems a bit late for an x12 announcement.

I doubt they'll reveal it at an industry event, if that's what you're insinuating. I honestly think the reveal will come in the form of a synchronised embargo lift, and potentially (although I hope not) a magazine cover.

The worst part about that though is it could happen any day now. Or it could happen in a months time.

That's the right way to do it. Why fight for a tiny news cycle in a crowded industry event?

I prefer that way too. Unless there really is a magazine cover story to signal the embargo's slow evaporation, in which case each day becomes a hunt to see if subscribers have not only received their copies, but scanned them.

Going to sleep and hope for some embargo shattering whilst I dream.

Hadn't Edge Magazine already featured a cover for Halo:Reach this time two years ago? I do know that we got a trailer for Reach in late 2009, the year before release. It's so unfortunate that this isn't the case for Halo 4.

I just kinda hope they start small before the actual big stuff, like a website going live with some new info, viral campaign, teases etc. Build hype for when the big stuff drops.

GameInformer was first, I think, with EDGE not far behind. The wait for both was pretty intolerable, and not a great way to bare first information about the game.

But by then we'd already seen an in-engine trailer to give us more than enough to chew on.

Ah yes I remember now. Ah man I'd really love to see some information, even if only a text description of some of the new ideas that'll provide the core basis of Halo 4's innovations.

By the way, do you guys think a beta's out of the question at this point? Unless it was an open beta I really cannot see what title they could release it with. Microsoft's only first party, full retail titles this year are Kinect games and I'd imagine it'd cause tremendous outrage if they tried to force you to buy a Kinect just to play the Halo 4 beta.

Edit - Well at least Nintendo are giving me something to think about.

As much as I want news on 4, I have to admit if the game is supposed to be a throwback to mystery and exploration, then I don't want to be spoiled too much.
And the sooner the floodgates open, the more will be revealed until the game is happilly installing on my console.

Each week Comixology gets a new Halo comics published, next week shall be the last with the release of part 2 of Fall of Reach.

I'd rather get a new comics next month than a stupid magazine cover story.
I'll buy the game anyway, and whether AA are in, or dual holding or else, 343i seems to want to make the game they want. Good.

That said 343i probably has something special cooking, and I hope they launch it before the inevitable Game Informer cover story.

PS: of course, in the meantime, I wouldn't mind if some of Sparth Halo 4 art was released in high def for my masturbating pleasure.

If a tease is to come before E3, what better way to do it then having the Red vs Blue crew give us a little insight into HALO 4!

Start off with Caboose demonstrating how to not drive the new and improved Warthog.

Since he already done it with the Scorpion tank. LOL "Why are there 6 pedals when there are only 4 directions?!"

Sword Base is godtier.

Deal with it.

Why did people actually dislike playing as the Arbiter? I really don't get it. You got Covenant allies, camo and regular energy swords. It was an awesome twist.

Because they weren't expecting it.
People were expecting Halo 2 to be the Chief fighting the Covenant on Earth.
It was mis-managed, people felt the game was a bait & switch so that blowback blew on to the Arbiter too.

Also, the introductory Arbiter scene, in the mausoleum is (awesome,) very long and the impression I get is that a lot of people non-interested in the Universe other than the Chief, didn't really care, so allowed themselves no connection to the character.

That & people generally prefer to be Human characters. Us vs them mentality.

Personally I don't hate the Arbiter. The first mission was fun. But I hate fighting against the Flood in Halo 2. And you fought mostly against Flood in the Arbiter levels.

I find it baffling that people could have no connection with a character that actually had some depth to it (Arbiter), but have a connection with the Chief, who is quite one dimensional.

Yup. And the Arbiter being an alien doesn't really matter as the Elites in general are rather humanlike, just taking the "no-science" and "honor" concepts to the extreme. Halos' aliens are not that alien really...

I don't find it baffling necessarily; people like stoic, badass heroes. But I can't relate to it, as the Arbiter's character was not only more interesting, but he went through an actual character arc. It was such great story telling.

I'm hoping 343 is as brave with their stories as Bungie was in Halo 2. I think the backlash made them shy of being daring in that department again, which was quite a loss.
