Haha yeah I really like the look of some of the stuff Mega Bloks has put out (like the halo stuff) but damn if the quality isn't leaps and bounds below Lego (do not EVER use Mega Bloks with Legos).

Exactly. They say they are compatible, but the quality between them is so great. I wish that Lego had gotten the Halo rights. Could have been so incredible.

I was in a toystore today and saw these two cuties. I just had to buy them haha

Tempted again by Lego after browsing this thread... I want that space shuttle! Here's a few MOCs I did when I used to have more free time...

Yeah, this is pretty much my issue, too. I LOVE the functionality of Technic, but the fact that the final models all look a bit janky turn me off (compared to the System builds).

I've spent a ton on technic, but now might be the time to cull some of the sets to help fund other sets. I think I'd get an ok amount for a couple of them (RC bulldozer and 8421 mobile crane). I have a couple of buckets full of technics beams and I don't need nearly that many.

Just out of curiosity, are all those custom Lego builds built by stock pieces, or is every brick basically a painted custom? Is it part of the fun to find the correct colors, or rather to paint them?

Hmmm, in my experience most MOCs are entirely made of stock pieces, or nearly so. They wouldn't look right if you tried to paint them.

Just came back from the Lego Store and ended up buying Mindstorm NXT 2.0 and U400 Unimog. Just occurred to me that I should buy some containers for them.

Mindstorm stuff is also very intriguing to me, but it lies in the same realm as Technic terms of the look. But the stuff you can create is mind blowing. Enjoy that set!

I haven't decide what I am going to do with both set yet, there are so many options. The Unimog set comes with pneumatic parts which as far as I can tell can't be purchase directly from Lego Stores.

So i got the lego bug again.
Friday i bought these:

What a wonderful weekend :D

So did anything ever come of the idea of a GAF MOC build? Everyone buying a cheap creator set and trying to build something out of the pieces?

I had a look online at the currently available creator sets and it's hard to pick a suitable set, it needs to be cheap enough that the barrier to entry for everyone is affordable but have enough pieces to allow for some variety in possible custom creations.

I think we should get an idea of who would want in and what said participants are willing to spend. The $20-30 range is probably safe as it would buy a set of 250-350 pieces or so. I'd be willing to try and "organize" it if interest is indeed there.

Yeah, I'd be in. One thing to keep in mind is availability of sets in different countries. Here in Australia we're generally a bit behind on set releases, though I'm pretty sure I've seen all the 2012 creator sets on the shelves here. Some other countries may not have access to them yet though.

There's always bricklink though

That's a good point that I didn't consider. Also, isn't a set that runs $20 here in the states significantly more expensive than the AUS equivalent of 20 USD? I thought I remember hearing about some ridiculous import fees on toys/games/etc from some friends who play Warhammer 40k.

Yeah, despite our dollar being stronger than the US one, we get pretty slogged - for example, the US$20 creator sets are AU$30, the US$120 VW Kombi Van is AU$170, etc, etc.

Case and point: the Super Star Destroyer is US$400 (about AU$375), but retails for a ridiculous AU$700 on the online site here.

Just like everything else, we get slogged.

front and rear do not separate IIRC. Only the container in the rear does that.

You might be thinking of another similar set. I'll try to find it. FX Star Patroller perhaps.

6931_FX-Star_Patroller.jpg

That's the one! Though we also had the other one I think. We got that stuff in one huge box from someone who wanted to get rid of it. All the building instructions were there but we had to rummage through the huge pile. Good times!

Picked up the new X-Wing on the weekend after finding a store with 20% off of LEGO

The mechanism to make the wings move between normal and attack positions is ingenious!

Love the Nostromo.
John Lewis have the 'T6 Jedi Shuttle' for £25 at the moment. Not the most interesting ship, but a lot of parts for the money.

how about a buy/sell/trade thing in here? Or is there an official thread in OT that we can post in? I don't think I'd be selling enough to make it worth setting up a bricklink store.

Honestly, I like this idea. I know I'd buy a few sets off people!

Same price on Amazon with free Prime shipping! Thanks! BOUGHT. Will do this after I'm done with my two Architecture projects.

On this note, anyone know why Amazon prices vary so much? Was looking at the Space Shuttle, and it's $44 more than the LEGO Store, other prices are the same, and some are lower than the LEGO Store (like the Imperial Shuttle).

I think it has to do with the fact that people buy the sets from somewhere like a LEGO store and put it up for the price they paid + tax + commission fees. Why the warehouse prices are higher is beyond me, though...

I'm back on the Lego buzz and today was a good day:

Holy shit yes! I've been looking at this thread for ages wanting to buy some LEGO, but being a poor as fuck student I can't pick up any big sets. THIS is what I need. Gonna see if I can find these tomorrow.

Where did you get it for 20% off? I've been looking forward to this set for a while now!

this is what I've got spare-ish, not sure what I should try and sell. Don't necessarily need the money, just that these might be a good way to get me other sets that I'd enjoy more:

8275 - Technic Bulldozer with RC controls. Box and instructions. Pretty sure this will get sold.

10178 - motorised AT-AT. Instructions but no box. Don't really feel like I'll build it anytime soon, but the pieces are pretty useful. Wouldn't miss it too much I don't think.

8421 - Technic mobile crane. Instructions but no box. This was probably 2nd on my list to sell, as its discontinued now. But the instructions aren't mint, and the lack of box probably affects the price a lot..

8043 - Technic RC excavator. Instructions and box. My latest technic and I'd like to keep it to have some caterpillar tracks and its just a cool set. but if the Mobile crane or AT-AT aren't saleable at a decent price this might have to be sacrificed instead.

I've been lurking this thread for a while. Really getting the urge to buy some sets and build some LEGO. (And hopefully spending time doing other stuff instead of wasting time on GAF/Reddit)

Which sets would you recommend under £80?

Difficulty isn't an issue.

10220 VW camper is bang on that price and an amazing set, very intricate and looks great.

10193 medieval market village for a bit less.

10231 Shuttle expedition for £81.99

If you like any other themes like Star Wars or buildings, let us know. I'd be tempted to try the Fire Brigade modular which is £100 so a stretch, but a lovely set too. Or one of the 3-in-1 creator sets.

FYI, the Black Pearl is 20% off on Walmart.com right now (with 97 cent shippping). You can get it for $80.

The PotC sets are being phased out by July, so expect to see them disappearing from store shelves soon.

Went into the Lego store not intending to buy anything...thought my daughter might buy one of the Friends sets.

Left with Whitecap Bay. :P

Aaaand now I'm really glad I picked it up. Great set, gonna look pretty nice in our little medieval town.

Hopefully they bring in generic pirates if they are phasing out PotC. I'd really like to get a big ol' pirate ship but not anytime soon.

I'd highly, highly recommend the Medieval Market Village to anyone who wants to start a medieval collection. Really makes for a great "foundation" set to build around.

I have a question; has anyone here tried any of the LEGO "board games"?
I just noticed there are a bloody lot of them and wondered if they were any good, or just standard dice-roll games but with LEGO...

They are quite nicely designed - 3 different models in each pack and only a fiver a time.

I'm probably going to pick those up too. They're really nice-looking sets -- the look is very iconic Lego, but they make clever use of some of the less standard pieces to give a lot of personality and visual complexity despite being so small.
