Have any developers discussed what they are going to use the GPS for in the 3G version?

Having trouble deciding between the 3g launch bundle and a wifi unit.. No real interest in paying for 3g service.

The Launch bundle is the creme dela creme of deals so far. Say you pay 250 for the Vita plus another hundred for the memory card, that's 50 bucks more already and you know damn well you're gonna want some games and accessories. 300 bucks you get the best version of the Vita, 8 gig stick, free month of 3G (i think) AND a free game! You can't beat that deal and besides it isn't like you have to use the 3G.

I can easily beat that deal. Wifi for 249, 8 gig for 30, 10 dollar game on PSN for 10 dollars and I get to choose which one I want instead of Sony choosing. And the cherry on top is I never have to deal with ATT.

I ended up pre-ordering the first edition bundle on Amazon tonight. As far as I can tell the hard case is only available with that bundle. I'll order Uncharted from TRS and I'll be set. This thread helped me decide what to get in the end. Thanks NeoGAF!

But you wouldn't be getting a better deal. You'd just be saving $10 on a model with less features.

After taxes it will literally be in the same price range as the LDB. You're not willing to spend like 5 extra dollars for a better version of the system, I don't think you realize that you don't have to utilize ATT at all if you don't want to?

How is it better if I never intend to use the 3G? And with Amazon I pay no taxes, so that's not a factor in my decision. Choosing the PSN game I want is however a factor. Has Sony said yet what title(s) you get to choose from? It's definitely a good deal for people who want 3G, but it's a loss for those of us that dont.

Although the 3G does come with some special pre-loaded feature that the wifi won't have, it's more about the fact you're getting all that for the price of the standalone 3G model. It's a better deal than just buying a wifi for 250 with nothing, instead of paying an extra 50 for a superior system and some free extras. I guess it isn't though, if you feel having a 3G model is irrelevant.

If the free data session is a code then I'll try and sell it for $10, and maybe sell the free game code for $5. So I'll be getting the 3g version for even less.

I got to mess around with a Vita at Best Buy today. I was definitely sold. The sticks felt great, it's much lighter than I figured, and the back touch pad takes a bit of getting used to, but it still feels good.
Also, hi GAF!

Just got to chapter 8 in Golden Abyss. Awesome game so far with very few caveats (sub-res, controls need some getting used to). Noticed that the Vita during long gaming sessions doesn't cramp my hands as much as the 3DS does. I love this thing. You guys are in for something special a few weeks from now.

Alright, I have been lurking since launch day JP. Pretty pumped as everyone else! Finally decided to post my launch day wants and join in the festivities going on in this thread to hold off the wait.

Going with this for my launch day goodness.

PS Vita Wifi
16gb Memory Card
Wipeout 2048
Super Stardust Delta
Final Fantasy Tactics:War of the Lions
DJMax Portable 3

Buying all my games retail, besides Lumines which I want to play anywhere anytime, when I have money down the road haha. Wanted to get a decent sized card for PSN exclusives and to build up my PSP library.

is the Vita backwards compatible with all old Sony PsP games?

cuz I never owned a PsP and if I buy a Vita then slide thru PsP library would be more appealing to me.

I currently have a AT&T phone contract I wish I could get the Vita hooked up thru that instead of having to pay extra per month which I will not do.

You may not use the 3G but the fact that you can get it for a few bucks more makes it a better deal.

It's only a better deal if you intend to use the 3G. Otherwise I've just wasted 10 bucks on a feature I will never make use of and I've limited myself to a download of Sony's choosing instead of one of my own. Definitely a great deal for anyone that was already interested in the 3G aspect of the Vita though.

It's compatible with most of the PSP games that are on PSN.

All of these are there on the Japanese Vita store, so I'm pretty sure they will all be good to go.

Excellent, thank you. For you guys in Japan was all the PSN info (pricing of Vita PSN titles, PSP game availability etc) a mystery all the way up until you brought the device home?

So Amazon says a delivery estimate of the 17th for the first edition bundle. That's two days late, isn't it? I should probably just run to a Gamestop on the 15th, shouldn't I?

There is kanji (as with just about anything), but I think most of the kanji in the demo had furigana, if I remember correctly.

Oh crap! I just realized you're the guy who's video I commented on on YT asking that exact question. Crazy how the internet works. Well guess I'll just not pay all that money for the limited edition and just get the Chinese version. Unless that one won't have English in the full game.

Thanks!

DeShaun over at Geek Revolt says that the screen is pretty durable and shouldn't scratch up too easily. It's the rear panel that seems to need the extra protection.

I wish he went into more detail as to how he came to the conclusion that the Vita's screen is more durable than the PSP's. Did he do a test? Did his PSP get a scratch during the first month he owned it? Needs more detail.

Here's what I'll be getting

Wifi Version
Uncharted
Rayman
32 GB memory
Charge cradle
case
screen protector

I sold a bunch of things on ebay over the last month and all the vita stuff will now only cost me 100 bucks! cannot wait

PSN version prices were known, what PSP games are available wasn't. Although in case of the latter, most of the titles with digital versions are there and I hope we'll get the rest after a few firmware upgrades (I want Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity).

Have Sony said how much digital copies cost at launch compared to retail?
No, there is currently no information about the price difference (if any) for Europe and North America. I'm guessing it will be up to the publishers to decide for themselves, as it is now with PSP games on PSN.

Which means full retail price so that they get more money.

To be honest, I'm expecting only a 10%-15% discount on digital copies, if that. I fully expect some (i.e Capcom, Square, etc...) to price their digital copies the same as their physical copies.

That was my first thought when I heard about the discount in Japan, last I heard PSP games on the PSN were at a discount unlike here, so why would it start here? Plus the fact they charge way more means they can probably safely hack off more.

I don't know why it bothers me so much, but all this doom and gloom around the launch of the vita really pisses me off. Yeah, I think the market has changed, sure a dedicated handheld probably can't be as successful as they have in the past, but it can carve out its own profitable corner, it looks like an amazing system in its own right, and projecting utter failure at this point is not only irresponsible, it's ignorant.

I totally agree. It's frustrating to have to read that shit on GAF. But it's even worse to see whole websites/podcasts like GiantBomb completely show no interest at all in the device. I mean, seriously?

Preordered a Wi-fi Vita the other Day at amazon.de. Will get it with a 8GB card for free as well as a free preorder pack including PSN offers and a Headset. Also got 15€ off one game. You could choose between 5 Games, i got Lumines.

I'm ready.

My haul (UK):
3G vita £279.99
16gig card £44.99
Wipeout 2048 £29.99
Uncharted £39.99
Virtua tennis £34.99
Fifa £39.99

Total: £469.94 (!)

Guess I could cancel wipeout since its one of those 3G bonuses.
Recommendations for a decent case?
