Loser slave of the system :(
Any word on when the US PS store will be up and running?
I'm not much of an online player, and it sounds like 3G's terrible for that anyway. Still, maybe the GPS is useful even when it's used only through Wi-Fi, and that Gust game implies there might be games that use 3G in an interesting way, and maybe THEY will do it in a form that I'd actually give a shit about like whatever MGS Portable Ops was trying to do.

Yeah, things more indirect and akin to Demon's Souls/Dark Souls messages seem perfect for 3G rather than straight up multiplayer sessions. They showed some cool features with Unit 13. The game is constantly updating with challenges from your friends, your friends can unlock boss battles in your game for a limited time. I think 3G will be good for online features like Burnout Paradise. Asynchronous online/community features.
And that kind of thing doesn't use a ton of data either.

It's obvious the 3G is really just a broader way of doing something similar to Street Pass on the 3DS but not relying on the limited range of Wifi. I can't imagine there would ever be games that would be designed with 3G in mind or that will split the userbase.
Still, I like the idea of features such as Unit 13, or Wipeout but the problem for me is that New Zealand is such a minuscule market among my friends that I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one with a PSV. I only know two people personally in a city of 1.5 million that have a 3DS (6 Street Passes in 8 months and 2 are from people I know).
If 3G is going to broaden that nationwide then I am all for it, it's just a shame it's not a standard feature across all PSV.
Any Ninja Gaiden videos yet?

February 22nd in the states.
Damn, February 23rd in Japan? That's awesome.

Nice. I can't afford 2 games so I'll be sticking with Wipeout but Sigma will be mine before March ends.
Just placed my pre-order tonight. Going with the new 3G bundle. Really excited about the launch lineup, one of the better software lineups we've seen in quite a long time. Certainly the best Sony launch lineup probably ever.
Question, is the Playstation Network transparent across platforms?
In other words, if I'm on my PS3...do I see what my friends are playing on their Vitas? And vice versa, if I'm on my Vita, do I see what my friends are playing on the PS3?
Even with the talk of horrible load times in Wipeout?
Are the load times horrible in the final game too or just the demo?

So, Netflix isnt available in France. Does this mean that if I want to download the Netflix app to my French psn, I'll have to reset and all that just to get it off the American store ?! Or will the apps be on all the stores ?
Not yet on PS3, but you can from Vita. I've messaged guys from my friends list with no problem. You can even compare trophies.
It's certainly quite slow to load (in the demo) but it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting.Even with the talk of horrible load times in Wipeout?
What? For a 1/3 of the MSRP price of a "normal" game, at least in Japan I find it to be a quite enjoyable minigame pack.wow prepare to get smacked, Little Deviants is like the worst Vita game.
Yes, they are. Restarts are much faster than the first load, but still on the long side. Are the load times horrible in the final game too or just the demo?
No idea. Just heard the guys on the 8-4 podcast saying they were ps1 era load time bad...
Well, load times aren't really a dealbreaker on handhelds. Since you can just put it down and do somewhting while loading.
I just asked on twitter and load times for wipeout are about 45 and 55 seconds. a patch will/should be addressing it in the future. hopefully by February 15th!

Slow load times are annoying but I couldn't imagine skipping a game just because of them. That's... crazy?

so what is the smart set to get? i mainly just want the vita for games (lumines and hsg to start)
so...wifi bundle + 8gb card + games?
If you're getting the 8gb card anyways, I'd say just go for the 3G launch bundle since it's just an extra $20 when compared to buying the wifi model + 8gb card and you get 3G just in case.
Unless by wifi bundle you mean you're in Canada, then nevermind.
do you need the 8 gb card? i was just getting it b/c you need it right? i guess there is the issue of psn games though, hadn't even thought about that actually.... what is everyone getting for the most part? the 32 just seems a bit expensive for a system that honestly will probably only be a hot shots and lumines machine for the first year, but then again i don't want to have to buy another memory card later.
Have they confirmed that this is coming for the PS3 as well? Weird that it only works both ways on the Vita.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE multitasking on this device. Only downside is the browser not being accessible with a game open. PATCH IT, SONY.
You'll need it for certain games to play/save. And there's always the possibility of wanting to download PSN only games as well as PSP games. But I think if you don't want to spend $100 on the 32gb card, the 3G bundle with the 8 gb card included should last you a while. The largest Vita game (Uncharted) is 2.7gb. Use that for a measure of how much space you might need.
I always thought of it as the opposite. Usually when I have time to play my consoles I'm at home and have all the time in the world to wait for load times. With a handheld if i want to quickly get a play in during commute or while i'm waiting for class to start or something a long load time can really be a hassle. Though really it sucks on both compared to just having short load times.
I think Astro is doing retail for games so 8gb is fine for saves and such.
Uncharted isn't the biggest DD game though btw. Did we ever find out Stardusts download size?

thanks for the advice.
yeah i'm doing retail mostly though i do like buying stuff from psn. with this info above will probably go with the first edition and also hold out hope that prices drop at some point. worst case if find a big need for memory i'll just suck it up and buy the 32gb rather than half-assing it
excited for lumines and hsg. two of my favorite series of all time. hope they are good
