Where did you get it for 20% off? I've been looking forward to this set for a while now!

Target in Australia

What a treat... I've been eyeing this for months!

Man, I really want that set, been eyeing it off on the LEGO site for a few weeks now.

Found the old Castle set I had.

Oh, wow, that's even more old school than the Black Falcon Castle I wanted as a kid. The one I wanted was bigger: it was grey and had a little secret trap door with a ghost in it

Does anyone know if there is a place where you could order discontinued sets, besides Ebay?

Here's every set I had as a kid in order that they came out...

Seems like I had way more, but I guess not. I think I got some extra pieces from one of my mom's friends. There were from like the 70's, since the minifigs weren't even really guys, they were just two halves you could snap together and their arms/legs didn't move.

I have got to get my parents to relinquish my childhood lego collection. Everything should still be there, manuals and all. It will not be easy, though...I think my mom wants to hang onto them for grandkids. But they're mine, dammit ;p

Some old favorites...
1. A couple of large castles, including the one with the ghost mentioned above
2. A giant black space ship with two removable pods
3. Pirate ship
4. Pirate hideout on a desert island
5. Bandit fortress of some sort...Wolf Pack, or something? With a big cave underneath with a ghost in it

I think my mom actually gave away/sold all my old LEGOS a few years ago at a garage sale. I had them all broken down and in baggies sorted by color. I have no idea why she did that, as she always asked me first about selling my old toys.

Whoa, I'm actually surprised at the amount of bricks it has! I always thought Creator looked simple, and judging by the image in the box, it gives that impression.

I finally disassembled the Tower Bridge. I have now a huge bucket of new parts to sort. :/

that sounds like a pain. probably best to just sell it on at a good rate to a friendly gaffer ;P

Seriously though, its only a matter of time before I jump on that, and I know I'll need to expand/rejig my storage to cope - 500+ tan slopes!? My slopes currently live in one of the advent calender holes which I use for small special bits. That won't cope.

Well, Lego-Gaf, after weeks of lurking in this thread, I finally made my first personal Lego purchase in 16 years:

The comment that this set was close to being discontinued spurred me into action. Whoever said that deserves commission from Lego.com.

Soon...
(When my medical bills for last year are refunded...)

img_02986zp8f.jpg

That looks freaking awesome!
How much did you pay for it?

49,95 €. Worth every single cent!
The plane is the most complex of the three (the hovercraft being the easiest) and uses almost all the pieces.
I kinda plan on buying all the jet planes from the Creator series, but perhaps I'll just buy the classic variable-geometry jet plane. Decisions, decisions... And this year's LotR release doesn't exactly make life easier for a poor student :(

How much is the swing-wing creator set? Although it might be discontinued it has retractable landing gear and looks like a tomcat. Although that technic one looks a bit like a Red Arrow

I always liked the colour schemes of the old space sets. I just missed out on the old Space Police. Might buy a small set on eBay one day.

Hmmm... I kinda don't like Technic

Haha. I'm somewhat in the same boat. Even as a kid when my parents would buy me Technic I was a bit "meh" on them.

I tend to like to keep with minifig scale (which I don't think Technic is in the same scale, though I could be wrong), but I am now starting to get interested in microscale as well (which I believe still isn't in the same scale as Techinc, but again could be wrong).

OMG. Love that metal grudge, never realised there were instructions - so few MOCs have them.

I know what I'm building next (unless my Venator turns up first..)

you checked out the mini modulars? http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Mini-Modulars-10230

I bought these and enjoyed the amount of detail they can squeeze into a tiny model. It inspired my son to make a bunch of microscale buildings and dioramas too.

Redid this one, luckily no block was missing :

It's glorious on my shelve.

Damn you, this is my dream set!! Always wanted it. It goes for a grand on Amazon!!

How cool would it be if they had ASOIAF themed Lego sets? Imagine building Casterly Rock, The Eyrie, Winterfell, Harrenhall, King's Landing, Old Town, The Wall etc.

They cost 70 €... Again, we'll see... But I quite like the scale, I'm thinking of getting into Heroica to build mini epics (and more stuff for my D&D group to fawn over at my place ;) )

Minifig scale ist the the bestest! But I think I'll dip into Technic this one time, the price is too good to pass!

Your mention of scales reminded me of this set I had.

For reference, I think I'd say that guy is about 3 times the height of a minifig? I was never able to get any other sets with those figures included. Think the costs were a bit higher than I ever wanted to spend on one set back then.

I am almost done building my Pet Shop. Been stretching it out over a couple months to make it last. Trying to delay the inevitable purchase of the next $100+ set that I have my eyes on.
Thinking about another modular (probably the Fire Brigade), the Medieval Market Village, one of the trains, or the Unimog. But I can only choose one, or none...
All while being aware that I will likely spend another $300 or so in the summer on all of the Lord of the Rings sets.

Yeah I saw the designer video they have there on the site. I am pretty excited to get them since this will be my only way to have a complete Modular setup. I missed out on the wonderful Cafe Corner and Green Grocer :(

It's actually the Mini Modulars that have really raised my interest in microscale.

I suppose the Maersk liner and Tower Bridge are microscale too, given the size of the vehicles on the bridge and the shipping containers on the liner. And I love the look of both of those as well! :)

My wife and I have been putting together the Imperial Flagship. Took 3 nights to assemble the hull. We'll be starting the deck tonight.

how do you stretch out a build? A few pages a night, restrict building to weekends?

Medievel market and Fire Brigade are being discontinued soon, so consider buying one or both and sitting on one until later in the year?

After the next few bricklink orders come in, I'll have all the pieces set aside to build Cafe Corner - cheaper than buying new.

Tower bridge looks roughly microscale - I think nicodouga3000 posted pics a few pages back.

Picked up another Imperial Flagship, the Winter Toy Shop, and all of the PotC sets this month. February will bring the Fire Brigade, and either Falling Water, The Volkswagon T1 or the Tantive IV, and maybe the Mini Modulars. Once I recieve my tax refund I'm going to be picking up the Death Star.

Meanwhile my son is working through his new Ninjago sets on a pace of about one a week, though he's going to need my help with the Fire Temple and its 1,100+ pieces soon.

I've got my display shelving in place, so I can highlight one big build per month and several smaller builds as well.

And Toyfair is in two weeks!

My daughter and I are well into Whitecap Bay. We built the structure around the light brick today and she declared that it was "freakin' AWESOME."

I love my kid. Sa-weet set, too.

Haven't really had any specific timing on it. Basically whatever amount I felt like building in one sitting. I ended up building the townhouse half of the building first, taking a couple breaks in the process, then didn't touch the other half for about a month. The last chunk I did was the first floor of the shop. Building a floor at a time would let you break the build of the total set into 6 roughly even chunks. Though the third floors on both halves I think are smaller than first and second.

As for the the sets being discontinued, I might go ahead and grab both as you suggest, have some extra cash coming in this month. Not sure yet. I am conflicted!

All my PoTC sets are in still in boxes right now, though I'm going to build Queen Anne soonish so my son and I can have naval battles - LOL. The Whitecap Bay set is one of the best in that series IMO.

I'm thinking that the PotC line will return, albeit with new sets, once Pirates 5 (and 6) are releasing. They've got to release a Flying Dutchman!

Caved in and bought the Mini Modular set. It has probably been my favorite build in quite some time--it's really cool how the designers used the tiny pieces to roughly mimic the aesthetics and structure of the large sets. It's almost like pixel art in a way, plus they look great on my bookshelf where the cats can't reach them. :)

Each one is taking me about an hour to put together, but I'm spreading it out so I have stuff to build for 3-4 nights.

Highly recommended for the casual Lego fan.

I stumbled across this over the weekend at a flea market. $20! It was just the pieces in a bag, but at first glance, it looks to have all the pieces. It at least still has all the small gold coins for the treasure chest....

They had more sets, so as soon as payday rolls around, I am going to grab up some more of these old ones...

After watching the second ep of the test Lego build I've ended up grabbing a Lego Cars Mator to build before bed as it was 40% off on sale.

I've gotten bitten again by the Lego bug pretty hardcore. And to boot I just got a slight increase in pay at work. I'm very tempted to pick up the Fire Brigade, like, tonight, though I'm not sure how my wife would feel about that. In the last two weeks or so I've picked up a bunch of clearance stuff lately (4 of the 6 Pharaoh's Quest sets) and got the Lego MBA kit, as well as fiddling around with putting together my old sets from childhood. My 2.5 year old son has joined in the fun - he is having a blast playing with "Daddy's Lego" when I sit down and build a set and generally now doesn't want to do much with his own huge tub of Duplo (other than dump all of it out and climb in said tub). It really has been amazingly special to see him enjoying Lego so much already, and knowing that in another year or two he'll simply be hooked on it.

Does anyone know if there is a place where you could order discontinued sets, besides Ebay?

bricklink.com is probably your best bet - it's basically the Lego version of eBay. If they're recently discontinued sets (last year or two) you may be able to find them online (bn.com, amazon.com are the first two sites that come to mind) or in local stores still (Walmarts sometimes will have old sets that they never clearanced), but anything older than that or from more popular lines you'll probably want Bricklink. At least, that's what I've found in the last few weeks of searching around...

I just jumped on the Mini Modulars now that they're up on the online store. Also picked up four of those mini Creator builds. Now to wait...

Is there a specific size for microscale? From what I've seen it seems like people just apply it to anything less than minifig scale.

I like the name nicodouga3000, hahaha. Thanks mrklaw. ;)

But to answer your question, microscale (to me) isn't really any specific scale in general, merely a feel.
