[Anime] Your "Controversial" Opinions

It's hard for me to have fun with uninteresting action, unrelatable characters, lame comedy and a pointlessly convoluted plot. Just doesn't do it for me. For me to accept the "it's just for fun" argument I need to see either standout characters, great dialogue, exciting, dynamic and over-the-top action, some kind of broad catharsis, and/or an endearing ham and cheese factor. Baccano! didn 't really have any of these things - it tried for all of them, but felt forced on all counts.

This is where its just comes down to a taste thing because for me(and I'm sure many other fans of the show) Baccano had all those things.

I would have a higher opinion of Baccano if it didn't have such awful CG train interiors.

I'm not joking. Stuff like that lowers my view of a series.

I mean, it is though. It's good, but its zzzzz.

Wings of Honneamise is the best thing Gainax ever made. Is that controversial? I dunno. I think opinions on Gainax are almost automatically controversial for some reason.
That's because Gainax has crafted so many masterpieces, it's impossible to choose without rubbing someone the wrong way.
FLCL is the best Gainax anything and the best anime ever made.

I really really really like
Howl's Moving Castle
, ending and all. Sorry, I can't help it. :-/
If only you'd try harder!

That's the most sound answer that one would give, I don't rank it as very controversial.

I wouldn't call it my favorite due to how it meanders in the middle while the movie waits for the shuttle to get finished, but the very end might be the best 5-10 minutes of animation Gainax has ever assembled.

This is not controversial. Everyone who watches RahXephon holds it in equal or higher regard compared to Evangelion.
I like RahXephon, but it's no Evangelion. RahXephon is a love story while Evangelion is so much more.

However, if you were to ask me to choose between Haruka and Misato, I would be very conflicted.

Macross 7 >>>> Macross II >>>>>>> The Super Dimension Fortress Macross >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Macross Zero >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Macross Frontier (One of the worse anime of all time)

I Hate Macross Plus!

My problem with Macross Plus is that I hate EVERY single character and the plot was STUPID...Why would they hide what really happened??? What if he hurt someone else??? He could have gotten help a long time ago!
They could have gotten together years ago and this would have been all behind them....There wouldn't be a Sharon Apple either..Macross Plus should have never even happened!

I don't think NGE and RahXephon are all that similar, but I do think RahXephon had better writing (mostly due to Konaka Chiaki) and a team of directors. Evangelion really didn't get good until about halfway through. Sill RahXephon is fairly introspective as well. It's just subtle, which is a shame
not really
as most people will never realize the meaning behind even half the show.

Ah, so it's just too deep for some of us.

Apparently... I thought most people picked up on a lot of the symbolism back in the day, but it's only over the years that I'm discovering that it went completely over a lot of people's heads, which I'm okay with because I don't like being beat over the head with obvious subtext.

I don't believe you. I demand a seven page essay, MLA format.

Cowboy bebop is sooooooooooo boring. I've watched 3 episodes and fell asleep each time. I'll give it another shot in the future.

Patlabor, Gundam and most of those other mech shows are even worse.

People already know my opinion regarding Evangelion and TTGL. :P

Anyway...

Tamers is overrated. In the end it felt just a forced attempt at being edgy. I already watched a mon anime with dark elements without feeling forced (Monster Rancher).

Lucky Star is awesome! :D
It's a guilty pleasure show of mine; I think it's vapid and incredibly annoying to watch, but for some reason I went through it rather quickly despite that.>:(

I think Howls moving castle gets to much hate, if the whole film was on-par with the first half, it would have been one of the best ghibli films ever made, I just <3 the setting and characters personally, and the music is good too.

Personally I didn't think much of Wings of Honneamise when I watched it, I mean the world-view and the ending sequence is awe-inspiring, but I really didn't like the characters all that much, especially the religious girl who kinda rubbed me the wrong way for some reason also "that" scene.:/ ought to give it a re-watch to see if my opinion changes.

Rahxephon isn't that hard to comprehend; I mean the main plot twist of the entire series is pretty predictable as far as I'm concerned, and the ending is the typical
MC creates a new world / reality trope
.

.....you get points for monster rancher

It's too bad most watched the shitty dub version. While I commend the good voice acting (Scott McNeil!), the shitty rap and the edits of death and blood ruined it. Also I tend to think the last season doesn't exist.

To say that they don't share any similarities involves purposely ignoring far too many connections - I just don't have the ability to do that.

I think this thread is trying to tell me to watch School Days.

You should. I concvinced a friend to stick with it, since he had only seen the first few eps and was like " wtf im not watching this pedo shit " and he thanked me later on in the week after he finished it.

Really one of those anime that sticks with you, for all the wrong reasons. Also a bit of a commentary on womanizing, but thats for another thread.

I genuinely believe it teaches some valuable lessons about life and love.

Obviously it's 2deep4u man

This argument is stupid. It's never too deep if you apply yourself. It's a thinking man's show, but if you want to give up and assume that just because you didn't catch all the symbolism that it must be somehow absent of depth, go ahead. No one cares. I'm not hurting. You're not hurting. There's no point in debating. If you want to stay ignorant, go ahead.

Just wondering, to those of you that would rather continue bickering rather than actually watch the show, did you even read through the analyses from the link I provided? Konaka Chiaki, is the guy behind Serial Experiments Lain, perhaps one of the most psychologically and philosophically intensive shows. It's downright laughable to even consider the absence of any subtext in any of his works.

Also, while Anno may have not known what he was doing with all the Christian "symbolism," he definitely knew what he was doing with all the psychological characterizations.

So basically they're too lazy to come up with their own story and just regurgitate someone else's.

The ignorance in here is absolutely astounding. Did you even watch the show? So merging two separate dimensions and realities is considered regurgitating now. I suppose Fafner is the same as Neon Genesis now too. Gundam and Brave Reideen too? I see.
