You don't have a spotless track record yourself, Poo.

I never predict anything even though I work for a major Nintendo development company.

Then maybe you'd be so kind as to set us all straight.I never predict anything even though I work for a major Nintendo development company.

I really shouldn't but alright:[
It's (hopefully) not a new Star Fox.
Well of course not. We all know it's StarTrUpics.I really shouldn't but alright:[

Is it (hopefully) not a new Metroid?
or
Is it (hopefully) not a new Zelda?
Just want to eliminate those two up front.
I agree with your outcome, but not your reasoning. I'd say that what Nintendo needs most is balance. With Mario(s) already coming, DCKR2 is redundant. It's better released later in the console's life so that it can build upon and continue with that Mario base, instead of piling on early (which just means that it is going to get piled onto). At the same time Retro is Nintendo's best bet to reach that 'hardcore' market (which isn't exactly niche). But at the same time, having a good, strong core game that draws in the crowd for games like Darksiders and Batman and CoD from Retro would do Nintendo wonders, more so than a new DKCR. That's a crowd that they can easily get later, but they have a limited timeframe to grab the nicher market.
My guess would be on a more violent, darker-themed Metroid game. I'm imagining something more akin to a typical TPS, than something like Prime or Other M. Whatever they make, it should be a graphical showpiece.No.
Just guesses based on information we have.
We can say with good certainty that they aren't making Zelda (Based on what Alberto has said, as well as the fact that we just got a Zelda game).
Retro has stated that they aren't working on a new DKCR.
They are hiring people with knowledge of large worlds, people who have created very advanced engines and people who have done more realistic and "mature" art.
So, we have a few choices. It's either Metroid in some form. Or another older action franchise.
It's not any sort of 2Dish Metroid nor Zelda.
That's all I can make up as I don't want the infamous Nintendo Ninjas offing me for pretending to be in the gaming business.

No. My imaginary StarTropics and Earthbound are two of the most popular games ever imagined.Seriously, wouldn't that game be a financial disaster????
That'd be as embarrassing as a new Earthbound.
Personally, I think it should be a game that exists in the Metroid universe but isn't about Samus.
Even before Corruption came out, I've imagined a game where you play as another hunted or a Spave Federation soldier.
I think people with industry connections should have a star by their name or something. Like Twitter's verified account. I don't know how I'm supposed to just guess who is in the know and who is not without carefully being an attentive veteran Gaffer who knows everyone.
DKCR was done in 2010 and they've likely been working on this since before then.Given Retro's talents that would be pretty awesome. But the biggest question is, the original twitter stated that it was "crunch time" implying a soon-ish release. Obviously we don't know if that referred to a distinct part of production (alpha done, time to focus on art assets or whatnot). But just going from what we can infer, what other than DKCR could be applicable for a 2012-early 13 release? Can Retro prototype, produce, polish and ship that fast?
I reckon it's not going to be Zelda.
Aounuma is just too greedy to let Zelda getting handled by someone else other than him, despite the fact that his influence has overstayed its welcome.

But Aonuma didn't even direct Skyward Sword.
If I remember correctly, he said he was working on multiple projects, and that they'll be revealed soon. Could they be Nintendo related? I doubt it, but you never know. Guess we'll find out what he's working on later this year.I didn't know it was confirmed they were working on another project before DKCR shipped... To be honest I'm happy with whatever they do, but I just wanted to see Retro get a shot to really perfect the DKC (art, controls, level design, features) experience on HD HW and blot out DKC2 as the best DKC ever. But they need Wise back, Kenji does best with ambient stuff like Metroid...
Technically yes, but he's a producer. And as a producer, he had many ways to influence its direction, and you can bet he still tried to influence it in many ways. Just read various sources and interviews for Skyward Sword, it's pretty much obvious he still had his tentacles wrapped up tightly on that game.

I hate this kind of attitude.
Of course he had influence, he's the fucking producer! And that means much more in japan than in the west. But you speak of it like he is some sort of evil scientist who infected this game knowing absolutely no idea what he added or took away to the project, but since he is what the media focuses on, you give him the blame for things you dont seem to like.
Sorry if i came across aggressive. I'm not mad at you, but those kind of posts in general that seem to feel they know better than the people's who art they do/dont enjoy

how many staff members work at retro studios?
I love Retro Studios, I really do... I just want to pack them up into a box, carry them around with me, and eat them when I'm feeling blue.
Truly, this is what this thread is all about. I really hope some of their developers are reading this.
PRESSSURRRREEEE
Considering what he did with Majora and Wind Waker, he clearly knows how to mix the series up.
My hunch is that it is DKCR2, for launch window release.
When I first read this I was like "No way! A Metroid without Samus?!" then I thought it could be a perfect setting to create a hardcore IP to appeal to the core without using the strange (but awesome) mechanics of a Metroid. Retro could break free of the confines of the gameplay but use their experience in that universe to build something very appealing and mind blowing.Personally, I think it should be a game that exists in the Metroid universe but isn't about Samus.

Is there any chance we might get an announcement for this game before E3, perhaps to get the hype train running again? E3 is so far away.![]()
My hunch is that it is DKCR2, for launch window release. As well as hiring for the hopeful Metroid Prime 4 or Zelda game, even though I see Sakamoto rightfully getting another shot.
So it'll hopefully be new IP, Zelda, or another revival. So let's hope for keeping staff members around sake that Nintendo greenlights Zelda/MP4/New IP, otherwise they might end up selling Retro in 10 years. But right now if given full artistic (see DKCR concept art) and design freedom (as well as the ability to mix 3D and 2D gameplay on a HD machine) and take back the platformer crown from Meat Boy...it's gonna be DKCR2...and it's gonna be glorious if done right as a launch window game. In any case it'll be a showstopper visually.
No.

Instead of Zelda I want them to revive StarTropics, If Retro can't no body can.

I concur. The only event Nintendo is scheduled to attend prior to E3 is GDC. Even there attendance seems short with only one speaker (Steve Rabin - Principal Software Engineer). They have a bigger booth than last year though. E3 seems to be the event where everything will be revealed.I don't think we'll hear much of anything prior to E3. Reggie implied we might, but if we do I expect it to be just some teases, kind of like what Iwata has already said at the investors briefing.
In terms of proper announcements, I think Nintendo is saving absolutely everything for the re-reveal at E3 2012.
I must have missed something in Galaxy. Either way, that sounds pretty nice. I have a feeling DK could work very well as an open world platformer.
They are not working on Donkey Kong Country Returns
They are working on Donkey Kong 64 Returns

As to what Retro's developing I can only, as most others, guess. If it's some big franchise like F-Zero or Mother, fine. I'd like however if they would reboot some older series, most prominently Blast Corps. Whatever they are doing though, I think it's going to be most enjoyable.
Based on who Retro hired it'll be an action-adventure game I'm sure.
I highly highly doubt it'll be DKCR2.
