Jtwo why are you asking us if you should be excited? What are you an infant? You want us to wipe and powder you too? You don't need to have the Vita, christ grow up you don't need sex toys in your life to feel valuable. Just move on or come back when you realized you may want it. Its not our job to shake rattles at you, thats what Sony gets paid for.

Now if you want to actually have a conversation instead of being a babby then I can direct you to some titles I like. otherwise you are just being a corny troll and its not surprising people are throwing peanuts to see your tricks.
 
I was overcome by the sexiness so much the other night I forgot I was in a GameStop. Now, do I spend $400 to play baseball and golf on the go? My gut and wallet say, "Hell no!!"....But damn, the sexiness!!!!

I'm not asking you. I'm posing the question to back up my current stance on the device. I see a lot of people excited here. I mentioned how the device struck me as thoroughly unexciting. Thanks for the offer to "point me to titles" but I have the internet and am aware of what software exists on the Vita.

I was gonna ask the same thing.

You don't have to be excited about anything. It seems you've made up your mind that nothing interests you. You basically shot down every major feature about the Vita as nothing new or unique so I'm not sure what you're looking for here...
 
@Jtwo Serious question (and really, anyone can chime in), but the hardware is one of the most powerful for a handheld, correct? So wouldn't the variety of powerful games on the go be enough to be excited over? The PS3 connectivity is also a plus, as I imagine a good number of PSP/PSV users probably have a PS3 as well.

Is the loading of PSN Vita games slower than the retail games? I'm on the fence on buying Wipeout on PSN because that's a game I will always play but I don't want to get even worse loading times.

I get to play all my PSP games (except PSP and PSP2) and have new software coming in plus the PS3 connectivity is huge for me and cloud saving so yea I don't see how I wouldn't be excited about it.

Yea, they are apparently a bit slower running on the card which I'm guessing wouldn't affect PSP games as much since I'm sure the Vita memory cards are faster than PSP ones.

I stopped reading after Jtwo stated there was no games. If there's "no games" for the Vita at launch, then the 3DS launch was complete horseshit and the hardware should burn in hell.

In my eyes the fact that this thing is in a portable formfactor is completely incidental. I don't see any distinction between this, an Xbox, a PC or whatever. Its just another console. But if I were thinking of it like that, I'd have to say No. The variety of console-quality games "on the go" is not really worth getting excited about. I don't have a PS3. One of the things down the road that I really, really hope happens is Sony opening up the backcatalogue of PS3 exclusive PSN titles like Pixel Junk Eden or Flower. I never really got a chance to play that stuff and would really like to.

I tried Little Deviants just for using the back touch and using only one finger on the back guide was difficult. I found myself running into the outside wall a good bit and having problems using it. I really don't think it can be used for precision like that but I am sure developers will come up with a use for it.

3DS cards are twice the thickness of Vita cards yet they don't hold as many grafix!?

Ok, let's try to break this down into two parts.

First, let's look at just the Vita as hardware. What do you feel would have made the difference of the hardware itself being unexciting to exciting? We have here a handheld with a large screen, two analog pads for the first time, traditional buttons, but also now with touch screen, gyro, gps, rear touch panel, front camera, rear camera, and so forth. Pretty much everything you could fathom in one device.

No more PSP where you wish it had a second analog stick or now touch screen cuz of iPhone games. No more iPhone where you wish some games let you have physical buttons. This is the first device that has it all in one. You could play iPhone games on it, you can play PSP games on it, and now you've got games that are going to approach in some ways PS3 games and how they interact with their console counter parts.

So from a purely hardware aspect, what is it lacking or what makes it unexciting? What would make it exciting? I'm not sure what they left out that is feasible.

Second, let's look at the games. Now this is an area that is completely subjective since everyone has different gaming tastes. To me it feels like they're touching on many of the different genres with solid offerings for just the launch. Uncharted is nothing to dismiss IMO. Even if you don't like the series, there's something to be said about the console experience being brought to a handheld. For racing you have Wipeout, fighters you have Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs Capcom. We need not look too far to see all sorts of games getting placed on the platform.

I can't imagine that the system is so devoid of software that you can't find anything interesting. And if you do, what type of games are you looking for? Launches are certainly rough, and like I said everyone has their own unique tastes, but I really think the Vita has a strong launch line up. What it will be like a year from now who knows but right now I think it's got a solid start.

So serious question, what are you looking for, and what would excite you on both of these fronts? I'm just curious what would seriously meet your expectations.

So, what you're describing, to me almost sounds like this:
I don't really care if the game system looks sharp, and is jam packed with the latest controls. I don't really care that i can have that experience everywhere. I don't own the game console this one has a direct relation to, and don't care about that. I also know that most titles aren't exclusive to the system, but I'd love to play the ones that are, from the past, and the future. I'd like that to be the case, even if it means that there will likely be very few titles available in general.

I can see why Nintendo might appeal to you more.

What? Why would I do that? How does that even make sense for a person to do. I want you to imagine a square. A 5ft by 5ft square. Imagine that. Now imagine if you only ever played videogames inside that 5ft by 5ft square. And NEVER EVER had any reason or desire to play a videogame outside of that 5ft by 5ft square. If that were the case for you, why would it matter the Vita was "portable."

Then I'd play there, plain and simple. Just becuase it's portable system doesn't mean I HAVE to play it on the go; it's just an option.
 
I'm surprised by the lack of anything inside the cases. They should start shipping these with ads for PS Plus in them or something.

Well, since I understand your point, I can't really say you're not entitled to your opinion. You want exclusive content on that device, even if it's an exclusive game ported from the console version. You want the thing to be unique from a software perspective in terms of IP, even if the main concepts of the titles aren't entirely new (IE: Oh, look, an FPS.. wow!!)

You just want to have the system running things that can't be run somewhere else. Ok, I can see that. I can also see that it's hard for game companies to make money off of games that are not multi-platform. That's just the nature of the industry now. Gone are the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

That's debatable. Only a fraction of the PSP library was actually avalible for download. So it was really limited; while the Vita will have every game avaliable for download.
 
I also think if I wasn't a huge smartphone enthusiast it would be a lot easier to get jazzed about the hardware itself.

IMO, it's smartphones that are getting boring in hardware. I think we've reached a point there where all we're getting is a resolution bump, a processor bump, and a camera mega pixel bump. It's so predictable and boring since a lot of things don't even take advantage of them. Vita is by far more bold in its hardware than a smartphone is these days.

I can see this as something to note, but then again there are no quad-core phones out, and very few with the screen size of the Vita. Not to mention dual sticks and buttons.

Not really comparable to a phone.

sometimes they will update to an earlier date, sometimes they run out of first shipment stock, etc. I would just watch it for the next week and check and see if you can change the shipping speed to release date delivery
 
i've seen the subject discussed on gaf before, but do any of you actually play your handhelds in public, like on a bus to work or whatever? I've never done it, personally, but that's probably more because I always drove to work and now for the first time i'm commuting by subway and i'll try using my vita during the trip

but idk, i just think i'd feel self conscious, not as much as if it was a DS because that's more stigmatized as a "kid's toy" but still, a little uncomfortable.
 
Not sure if these are known yet - but what are we looking at for the size of games?
Do we know how big the PSVita cards are?

If I get an 8GB card, and the games are 4GB each... that's not going to work so well.

I live in New York City, so yes, I play my handhelds every day for, at least, two hours on the train (coming and going from work).

However, my Vita will be staying home. Hoodlums love Sony products for some reason; there was a rash of PSP thefts in its heyday. I suspect the same for the Vita.

That said, I play my 3DS all the time, and I've never felt silly... until I got the Circle Pad Pro. That think makes me look like a clown.

I've stopped caring what people think about gaming in public - everyone is playing Angry Birds or Words With Friends or something on their iPhone anymore. When I go visit my fiance in Chicago (I live in Indy), if I don't drive, I fly (for free, woo) and have to take a 90 minute total public transportation adventure to her place. I'm either playing on my iPad or my DS the whole time.
