Ray Rice? Really? I had no idea this was a contract year for him. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Forte.

Packers have only two starters really (Walden off and on) who might leave. Obviously they have to sign Wells and they can tag Finley. Good lord, they might actually play in the FA pool this year.

Gross.

To be fair, so many of your fans wanted Coughlin fired so many times, it just tells you how crazy it is to be in the NFL. And those "pundits", man they're worse than game journos, just no fucking idea what they are talking about.
Only idiotic fans. I see more people complain about Gilbride's calls and Perry Fewell's lack of adjustments/3 man rush calls than anything Coughlin has been unable to do. For the ones wanting somebody like Coughlin gone, they won't truly appreciate what he's done for this organization until he is gone, and they have some craphole of a coach in NY.

TT won't allow himself to stoop to that level.

I'm still mad that the Steelers choked on their own urine against a horrible team the way they did. Basically gave the Patriots a free win.

Can't believe Crowder is still news.

To me he will forever be remembered for this quote before the first London game:

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries. I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."
-- Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder ahead of the clash with the New York Giants at Wembley."

Winning feels good.

The Giants never make it easy for me. Being down a point at the end of the first half, it seemed like one of those games where we'd choke away our momentum and lose. Fortunately, the bounces went our way, the defense stepped up after the first drive, and Manning threw some incredible passes. Hooray for victory.

I feel really good about this team. If Hixon is healthy when he returns (not guaranteed), then the Giants would have four young talented wide receivers on their roster, playing for Eli, who's doing better at quarterback than he ever has. And getting back all the defensive players off of injured reserve will make a huge difference on its own.

Unless there are contracts expiring on key players this offseason, the Giants are in a great position going into next year. If they just shore up their offensive line, they'll be a really dominant team.

Yes, the Giants are a team that lost to the Seahawks once and the Redskins twice, but they also beat the Patriots twice, and both SF and Green Bay on the road. It's probably silly to make playoff predictions about any team before the offseason even really starts, but it's crazy to try to write the Giants off after what they've accomplished.

EDIT: Looking at the unrestricted free agents list, things aren't dire, but they could be interesting for New York. Six cornerbacks and four WRs up for free agency. Hixon, Manningham, Goff, Terrell Thomas, Grant, Ross, are all free agents. I wonder how many they can keep.

Ian Rapoport thinks McCourty will stay at safety next year, of course that's based on nothing, but it's an interesting idea. He looked a whole lot better there then at corner.

I think I read that Forte would have no problem (for now) if the Bears put the franchise tag on him.

Of course he wouldn't have a problem. I'm guessing that the franchise tag will net him more money than a contract coming off that knee injury.

Giants 2012 Free Agents:

* - Players with stars are low salary signing and many are camp fodder.

Mario Manningham (WR) - The Giants will make every effort to sign him but it may come down to he or Cruz and Cruz will win that fight. The Giants have other young receivers waiting in the wings like Ramses Barden, Jerrel Jernigan and Hixon (if he's ever healthy!) so they can absorb the loss.
Kareem McKenzie (OL) - Likely will not be resigned.
Tony Ugoh (OL)*
Stacy Andrews (OL)*
Terrell Thomas (CB) - I believe he will be resigned. He won't command huge money because he is coming off of the knee injury but the Giants love him and he's far better than Aaron Ross when healthy.
Deon Grant (S) - Hate to say it but unless he's willing to stay for vet minimum as a backup, he's likely gone. Thanks to the old man for his leadership and savvy though. Great player and leader.
Derrick Martin (S)*
Justin Tryon (CB)* - I actually liked what I saw of him. I hope he comes back healthy and provides depth.
Aaron Ross (CB) - Not likely to be resigned. Good depth player who got pushed into a starting role. Did decent all things considered but T2 will take precedence.
Dave Tollefson (DE) - I love Tolly. He isn't flashy but he quietly had his best season and unless some other team offeres him more money, I think the Giants keep him. He offers great depth.
Rocky Bernard (DT) - Likely gone. Especially with Marvin Austin coming back next season.
Jimmy Kennedy (DT)*
Steve Weatherford (P) - He will absolutely be resigned. One of the best FA pickups the Giants made this season.
Jonathan Goff (LB) - Same situation as T2. I think he'll be resigned but it will be for "prove it" money coming off of the knee injury.
Chase Blackburn (LB) - I love you Chase, but I don't see him coming back. He may be at camp, but he'll get bypassed by younger linebackers who have a full offseason to work with.
David Carr (QB) - Likely resigned for low money.
Devin Thomas (WR)*
Will Blackmon (CB)*

Some other things may arise. Victor Cruz may come into the next season wanting to be paid after a breakout season. The Giants will prioritize him over Manningham with good reason.

The Osi situation will come up again as well. He still has one year on his contract and I don't see Reese going back to the drawing board with him. Osi comes into his last year with even less leverage than when he starts after JPP's breakout season.

Brandon Jacobs wants to retire a Giants. Unless he'll willing to take a hefty pay cut - it's not going to happen.

Draft priority - Offensive line (Tackle or Guard), Tight End, Linebacker

congrats to the Giants fans on GAF. I went down to Indy this weekend to stay with my brother, and we were out on the streets in Super Bowl village and all over downtown, broad ripple, etc. It seemed like Giants fans outnumbered Pats fans like 4 to 1.

I don't know that it needed boosting. Watching It a second time in the game - it's a pretty incredible catch and throw. The miracle to Tyree was a once in a lifetime type of throw and catch that just screamed destiny. The amount of luck it took was pretty amazing. The Manning to Manningham throw and catch was just pure skill (both by Manning in placing the ball and Manningham in completing the catch) on display so I appreciate it more.

I don't disagree that it wasn't an amazing game though.

Don't get me wrong, it was a difficult catch that took considerable skill from both Eli and Manningham, but its significance in the actual game was minimal. A great catch that extended a drive. Yawn.

I just expect more from the Super Bowl.

Of course he wouldn't have a problem. I'm guessing that the franchise tag will net him more money than a contract coming off that knee injury.

He still seems like he really wants that long-term extension. Not sure if he's going to get it though, at least from the Bears.

The Is Wes Welker to blame for drop? Conversation on First Take is fricken hilarious.

Edit:

Sportsnation Poll:

Which Quarterback would you rather over the remainder of their careers?

Tom Brady: 46%
Eli Manning: 54%

(over 30,000 votes)

Oh my how times have changed.

Won't happen.

Though there are lot of decent defensive players available!

What do you guys think of SBs and legacies, for instance the people that say Eli is now better than Peyton, which is absurd (it could happen in the future but for now Eli has a long way to go). Also Brady's legacy now losing in two Super Bowls is a bigger blemish than not making the SB. If Brady ended his career only winning 3 SBs and never going back he would probably be more highly regarded than losing two, again absurd. Teams win championships, not individual players. Determining a players legacy based on what happens in one game, one game (full of luck and strange bounces that could easily change history) where an entire team is responsible for the outcome is ridiculous. I understand winning a championship is very important and it is significant but I would never use it as a determining factor in judging one players overall career.

The Dolphins fan doesn't think Championships are important when judging players?

I AM SHOCKED

Falcons have the same shot as the Giants?

That's basically saying the Giants have zero shot of repeating.

I guess you have a point, I mean look at Elway for instance. People kinda forgot that he lost his first 3 just because he won his last 2. But "only" winning 3 is kinda laughable, because there are hundreds of players that haven't been to 1 let alone win 1 or 3 or been to 5.

Well he is a big reason why they aren't some shit franchise that wearing bags at the season. They should pay him his loot and stay relevant for a few more years.

Typical overreaction from the media. I agree with you but at the same time if you'd ask me which Manning I'd want to take into a big game or the post season? I'd choose Eli. He has something in those spots that Petyon lacks despite his brother being one of the greatest to ever play the position, IMO.

As to Brady? He's a first ballot HOF'er regardless if he ever wins another one or not.

I do think that Coughlin has put himself into a position where Hall of Fame is not out of the question. 2 Super Bowl wins, helping to build the Jaguars franchise from scratch and taking them to two AFC Championship games and an 11-3 post season record.

Yeah, pretty much this. If you ask me which one is the better quarterback, it's easily Peyton. If you ask me which one I'd rather take into the playoffs, it's easily Eli.

Pats will be back at least a couple more times with Brady, and I'd be surprised if they don't win another before he retires.

They'll shore up the weak spots in their defense through the draft and develop more of a vertical passing game.
