My play tab is bugged, dunno if I'll be able to play with you guys until it's fixed. Hopefully the patch tomorrow solves it...

Watching the replay, I has some tips. Not the be-all-end-all-ohmahgawdpro sort (being that I am most decidedly not one), but they should be helpful nonetheless:

- Your first item was Boots of Speed. You should avoid this at all times, because it leaves your hero naked and without sufficient regen items to stay on the lane. You had 103 gold, which would have at least netted you Tangos or a Healing Salve, but the common start is to pick up both a Tangos and a Salve, as well as some stat items (such as Ironwood Branches, Gauntlets of Strength, Mantles of Intelligence, Slippers of Agility, Circlet, etc). You gave up 2 quick deaths to Zeus, which could have been avoided had you stocked regen initially. Players can see your items if they're so inclined, and you make yourself an irresistible harassment/gank target building like this.

- You leveled vampiric aura first. Not only does it leave you without a stun to escape by, it pushes the lane as discussed. This is compounded by the lane you start on, Dire-top. This is named the hard lane for good reason, you'll be standing closer to their tower than yours for a substantial portion of the time. If they had went to the trouble of pulling the lane against this skill build, it's very possible it would have never crossed the river again whilst the laning phase went on. Your were also autoattacking creeps from near-to-full health, which also adds to the pushing woes.

- You went Aura-Crit-Aura (amplifying the pushing problem, and not really saving you at all from Zeus), and then you leveled stun at level 4. The stun damage is only 50 at this point, and Zeus is hitting you with a 275 damage thunderbolt in comparison. Leveling stun first and maxing it first would have been an improvement, leave aura until level 7 (at the earliest, by no means criminal to leave it for later when you want to push towers down), alternate between crit and stats when you can't put points into stun.

- Zeus was merciless with his harassment, the Antimage and Skeleton Lane was very much poor composition because it couldn't easily harass back. When Viper joined him, that lane became completely unsustainable for your team. Not only could they harass for free, they could kill just as freely.

- TP Scrolls, you need to buy these. 3 deaths on lane before 7 mins, and you were walking all the way down to the T1. Saving the 135 gold may seem like a good idea at first glance, but you lose out on far more when you contemplate how many creep kills you're missing out on, as well as all the experience. 7:26 in, and Zeus is level 4 to your level 3 and Anti-mage's level 2. He's pulling away with speed.

- Didn't level Reincarnation at level 6. I'm of mind that you should never skip this, it's a free Aegis of the Immortal every 260 seconds at level 1 (160 at 2, every minute at 3). Sitting at 0-4, there's every reason imaginable to pick it up. Your fifth death shortly after passing on the ultimate could have been avoided.

- At 13.5 minutes in, you have 950 gold and no items other than your Boots. A Magic Wand, some Ironwood Branches, as well as a Belt of Strength (later to be built into Power Treads) would give you far more options and survivability than your pooled gold would.

- Following Treads with a Wraith Band and Quelling Blade: Most Skeleton Kings like to gets some damage, attack speed, and utility. The Wraith Band gives you very little of these (6 damage, 6% attack speed, nearly 1 armor, 39 more mana, and a dribble more mana regen). If you were an Agility hero, this would be more worthwhile early because the stat buffs synergize with your main attribute (An Agi hero gets 9 damage out of the band instead of 6, and the attack speed is most welcome). 485 Gold early on is quite a bit to invest into what is essentially a dead-end item for a Strength carry. The Quelling Blood is something that most often should be picked up as a starting item or as a counter item (to Nature's Prophet's tree Sprouts, for example), or not at all. At any rate, it's more or less useless on Skeleton King after he got levels into his crit. Putting your money into an Armlet would have been better. When turned off, you get more damage than the Wraith Band (+9 versus +6), more attack speed (+15% versus +6%), and muuuuch more armor (+5 versus +1~). With the active, you get +31 damage, 10% attack speed, and +25 strength thrown on top so long as it's on.

- So instead of going Crystalis directly after the Wraith Band and Quelling Blade, go Armlet into some other damage item (ie Demon Edge into Monkey King Bar, Mithril Hammer into Desolator, Mithril Hammer into Black King Bar (if there are a lot of stuns, slows, and disables that are getting in the way of your right-clicking). Skeleton King doesn't really need more crit, he has it built in. Emphasizing his attack speed, his ability to move around in teamfights (ie with a BKB or a Force Staff), as well as his damage, these are key.

- Later on, Viper activates his Manta Style at his mid tier 2 tower and you stun one of the illusions. Lacking an area of effect skill on a teammate or yourself to damage the illusions (they take more damage than the real Viper, so you can sniff him out), hold on to the stun.

- You turn your Treads to Agility later on, presumably to get the grand total 33% attack speed buff. An Armlet here would serve you better, because you could leave the Treads on Strength and get the benefits (+8 damage, +152 HP, a sliver of HP regen), and still attack quick and hard (25% in total from the Armlet whilst active, and another 25% from the Treads in Strength). Between 33% attack speed and 50% (and hitting harder, no less), there's "good" and there's "twice as good".

- Zeus was merciless with his harassment, the Antimage and Skeleton Lane was very much poor composition because it couldn't easily harass back. When Viper joined him, that lane became completely unsustainable for your team. Not only could they harass for free, they could kill just as freely.
Not this particular game specifically but most pubbers will get angry as to the point of afking at fountain if you ask to switch lanes after laning starts (or if you try to just port in and hope someone leaves)

Had my biggest Earthshaker games yet (especially Game 2)! Recruiting the slave labour of Conceptor to render out the biggest and most improbable triple kill of my life, and maybe more if I can determine some method of bribing my way into his heart. CLIPZ.

You mean a hero with everything built in?

No, but Sniper matches her range (although Cait is more similar to Sniper).

However Sniper is not a good choice for someone starting out in DOTA2. If you want to play a ranged carry, try Viper.

Second this!

Viper is an amazing hero and easy to get into.

My first time using Armlet Lina. Still can't judge its viability since my team mostly carried me.

Someone inform me which language has "kus avcisi", "zoro" and "sadas" as words so I can insult my teammates appropriately.
Mind if I ask....uhm why?

helm and almost a bruiza cannon too, wtf I dont even..
Swiftko, not to be confused with swiftlame, once went 24-1-13 with it in a serious match. As far as I can tell it is a legit build, just difficult to pull off.

If you're going for physical damage wouldn't it be better if you only max fiery soul, lvl1 stun, stats and ult?

She is still a nuker when you get down to it, this build just ups her survivability and non-nuke damage output.

Although I'm not sure why I leveled up stun to 4 when stats might've been better.

Battle lina is definitely not out of the picture. Her fiery soul gives her 180% ias when she casts three spells. As for skill allocation, I would still max her stun, and put one point on her first spell.

I'm thinking that we will either have lanaya or obsidian destroyer tonight!:)

Another negative preview of Dota 2. I think having a public beta without any sort of implemented teaching tools was a massive blunder on Valve's part. I've read many negative impressions online and several of my friends didn't enjoy the game because it assumes you are xXxGoSuPr0xXx.

Meh, it's going to be free and will have tutorial mode eventually.

People who left can start over again once valve implements all this newbie helping stuff.

Just want to make a minor correction, you should start with Gauntlets of strength, not a Bracer.

I think there needs to be some level of understanding that this is still a beta and things are being worked on. Now is the time to learn if you are new. Yes, not have teaching tools is tough for new players but the best way to learn is to just get some games under your belt.

Who cares if you suck now, all of the scores don't matter...

She is a caster and needs caster items and mana to be effective.

You always spec your fiery soul last, stun and nuke first and ofc ulti.

A blink dagger is a CORE ITEM for her in order to be most effective with initation and land perfect stuns, then get an aghanim, sheepstick, follow up with boots of travel and if you go into late late game some luxury items can be like refresher orb, dagons, etheral blade.

Seriously i would be furious if I saw a Lina with those items.

with that build your mana would be out after 3 spells or something.

If it's not free they will basically be losing the entire Asian market because WC3 DOTA will still be in development.

thats fine and good and I hope it is but until they say its free it wouldn't be safe to assume it will be let alone state with certainty that is going to be...

Disagree. She is not initiation, unless you're playing against some god awful morons. Her stun is slow, tiny and she's squishy. "Initiating" basically means you die, so all that mana you farmed up suddenly went to waste. For her, Blink Dagger is only a gank/mobility tool.

Also Refresher, Dagon and Ethereal Blade as luxury items? Lol. Why waste the 180% AS? Even if I was going a traditional Lina build I would still get damage/semi carry items after Aghanim and Guinsoo.

Yeah pretty much. Until I start leveling stats. But the great part of that build is that I'm not useless when OOM.

Learning to play against bots has taught me one thing. If you just get in a big group and run around, you win. I've lost every match I've played with bots. That's not how this is supposed to work at all. (Not the me losing to bots part, but the part where the bots don't work well with humans.)

Guess I'll just go get yelled at for 24 hours or so until I truly l2p. Bots are worthless as a learning tool.

The graphics argument is debatable, everyone has their own opinion on that. But the item shop criticism I think is kinda ridiculous.
The categories are by the type of item, but this makes finding items that affect specific statistics a hassle, requiring you to read all the tool tips and data for each one as you search.
There's already a recommended items tab which helps immensely and tells you some of the items to get. Are we suppose to tell and give you everything on a platter?

Can't say I completely disagree with him especially given his perspective...I know quite a few LoL players that received access at the same time as me go back exclusively to LoL. Heck if I invested many hours into LoL, I'd probably be one of them too...

Targeting enemy heroes can be just as bad considering there is little that distinctly makes them stand out from the minions.

:lol. Have no idea how people have a problem with this.

Only an issue for new players, and they could just follow the recommended items anyway.
