The Law of Ueki 30

Oh you goofy god.

I'm glad we're finished with the intermission and back to goofy, offbeat battles. That's where the series is at its most successful.

You're making it sound like you enjoy or appreciate the series on some level. Or...is it just Stockholm syndrome?

Mardock Scramble: the First Compression

What the hell did I just watch

I think I liked it. Inelegant in parts (especially with regards to infodumping), and filled to the brim with really disturbing weirdness, but I suppose that was kind of the point. Fuckin' cliffhangers though.

Wait, Mardock Scramble did not look like that!

It's already time for waifu wars again? Fine, I'm game.

Kaoru > Rihoko > everyone else > Junichi's pron-obsessed friend > Sae. Anyone in Team Rihoko is still my bro, my top two are kind of interchangeable.

Gokujyo Episode 3

And this show continues to hilarious. Good to see a characters that bring Aya down a few notches.
Sweetly evil onee-chan and sensei

There's lots of things people should be watching at once - I can't really say that Yakitaate Japan would be anywhere near the top of my list, fun as it is.
In the area of trashy comedy shounen that goes on for far too long Yakitate!! Japan is definitely one of the must-see works.

I have noticed that the show's been much better since this second arc kicked off, just in general. No more incredibly awkward cuts, better art/animation, genuine comedy, interesting tactics. I'm seeing what you meant, Cosmic.

Yep. I figured you would at least partially like it by this point. One of the reasons I was less worried about you than Hosanna.

While we're at it, LEADERBOARD UPDATE

Miri: 40/51 (78%)
Hosanna: 31/51 (61%)
Geneijin: 49/81 (60%)
Lafiel: Retired

MAJOR upset by Miri. I was expecting Hosanna to run away with this, but now it just comes down to who needs more sleep.

Man, Lafiel sure is a quitter. He was barely in this face!

C-ko will never win, even though she's vastly superior to Ichika in everything but looks.
she's only mildly superior in looks.

This was a fun episode, even though nothing happened, other than the introduction of sexhair.
Lemon is such a pro-troll.

Hopefully, the plot will move forward a bit more with the fifth episode. I really like all the colours in this show, and the characters are all fun so far, although drama is always lurking just around the corner. Ichika and the MC constantly sharing fantasies/having the same reaction still hasn't gotten old.

Have you heard of resizing images? That seems a little excessive!

I guess once you're drawing pictures 12 hours a day you don't have time for human beings anyway.

Yeah, I forgot to put them all in tags, but that's what the edit function is for.

I wonder if I should be concerned that I don't have the faintest clue who any of those characters are.

Watch amagami then!

I don't know it seems self explanatory to me. sexhair is sexhair, nii nii is the sister, and Rihoko is the best girl.
agreed.

It's weird. I never thought the day would come when we'd have promise of an actual E7 sequel, and I wouldn't care at all, given how much I liked the series.
Clearly you never considered the current trajectory of BONES when (if) you ever considered such a thing. The original show was created over seven years ago so it's unsurprising that a sequel might have different staff with a different level of skill working on it. I've certainly had similar thoughts about other shows myself - "what if they just made a sequel to X, that was so good!" not taking into account the significant changes that may have taken place as the studio where the work was originally created.

I'd like nothing more than to see you allow yourself to go out of character long enough to watch Amagami SS and decide on a waifu to love and defend. I know that there's absolutely nothing in the show of critical note, but.......waifus, man. Waifus.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Strike Witches 02

Had the dub on Netflix Instant and wanted to give it another shot after watching the first episode awhile back in subs. Verdict? The crotch shots still make me want to barf.
You had already experienced the first episode in all it's glory and yet you still watched more? That's not a good sign.
Elfen Lied 01

I don't think I've ever seen a show turn a brutal murderer into a moe character within minutes like this. Add to this the douchebag soldier guy who punches anyone who sneaks up on him especially if they're secretaries just trying to do their job. If anything, the character is only funny because of how ridiculous he is. The episode in general evokes feelings of Chobits in the second half so I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

Much like a title by CLAMP, Elfin Lied is actually a subtle deconstruction of various anime tropes and character types. It takes various situations to their extremes, thereby expanding and examining the ideas present within under the guise of absurdity.

It's an interesting technique that only a few highly skilled directors would ever attempt to use, for fear of receiving an audience backlash due to the extreme (graphic) nature of the content. Yet, even though the show appears to revel in it's extreme gore and 'cute girl' façade, it's clearly an intelligent discussion about the worst facets of human nature that just happens to be presented as a blatantly ridiculous anime.

Hints at the show's true nature can be found in the Gustav Klimt inspired opening animation. When Klimt painted 'The Kiss', one of the works which is major inspiration for the opening sequence, he was living at home with his mother and two sisters, apparently the very picture of respectable man. However, he was secretly engaged in numerous sexual affairs. The idea of the 'false' out layer, or façade, can be found throughout much of the Elfin Lied story-arc, and it's certainly a key factor in the relationships between numerous characters. You should never judge a show by first impressions.

You shouldn't troll people like that, Jex. What if someone believed you?

I don't have the faintest idea what you mean. Are you suggesting that one shouldn't take anime seriously an approach with with a critical bent? I'm sorry if it confuses you, but this just happens to be the way I approach a wide swath of media.

I've watched the first 9 minutes of Elfen Lied about 5 times, the second half of the first episode once, and I never went any further.

The violence is so silly it's wonderful. I don't want to develop context for it.

I have so much to learn about how to watch anime. :(

You should trust what I have to say about Elfin Lied. I mean, I actually bought the whole show, with my own money! It was all thanks to GAF rating it so highly in - this thread. I really wish I could personally thank everyone who voted for it.

One's French, the other is American. Gaijins have huge hands, don't you know?

I've been mashing away at my giant Western keyboard this whole time and never noticed. Clearly I should be less xenophobic and more culturally aware of other nation's hands.

Do we know what timeslot this is going to air in? Is it Sundays at 7 in the morning again like the original series? Judging from the... "shift" in tone... it sounds more like the big Thursday night slot on TBS/MBS that I think Persona 4 currently airs in.

Wasn't it confirmed that it is taking over Persona 4's slot or was that just speculation?

Amagami SS+

Nanasaki's new arc actually got me to like her alot more than I had but I sill prefer Haruka, Kaoru, and Tsukasa.

on Elfen Lied I really enjoyed it back when I watched but I appreciate it even more because it brought me to Higurashi.

I assume that means you have watched or are planning to watch everything in the top 31 in that thread. Good to know.
