Whitney Houston has died

This is pretty devastating.

I was just listening to her classic stuff on spotify the other day, as well as grew up hearing her music.

RIP.

Has she produced anything new and worthwhile in the last 5 or so years? Not a troll, a legitimate question to Houston fans.
I would say not really, but that's more a product of the failing music industry than her drug abuse and career tumbles.

I Look To You isn't a bad song for what it is, but did it get the right promotion? Production? Nah. It got swept under the rug and they tuned the hell out of Whitney. It's really stunning how the big budget stuff sounds considerably worse than half the indie productions out there.

Yeah, that Whitney/MJ picture is tough to look at for anybody who grew up in the 80s and 90s. :(

Anyway RIP. 48 is way too young but honestly I'm not surprised considering the hard drug lifestyle she lived. It's just it would be nice if it wasn't so common to see someone who possessed so much talent meet a tragic end.

I think the extreme fame causes these people to become completely lonely and insular. They can only trust a precious few people and if those people end up being snakes (ie. Bobby Brown, MJ's doctors and handlers) then things don't end well.

I think what hits people that grew up listening to her is that she was soooo squeaky clean in the late 80's and early 90's. She was a pretty big "role model" to a lot of people. Watching her crash and burn these last 20 years or so was crazy. I don't think some younger posters get that.

I read the other day that she was clean and working on a new record. Sad we'll never get to hear it. :(

to whoever locked my thread on gaming side. this is huge sad news, I know some of gaming side could care less, but the rest of us have a heart and grew up listening to her. this IMO is bigger then MJ who was hoping she could pull it together. :(
I'm no mod but even if it's big news, gaming is gaming only.

I can understand the grief, I was sad when I heard MJ had died. What I can't understand though are the posters acting surprised that she died early/young. Where the hell have you been the last 10+ years?

First off, I assume MJ was an exception (I didn't actually see the thread in Gaming) because he was quite literally the most well known celebrity on the ENTIRE PLANET. Whitney, while extremely popular, was not as big as Michael. And it's not right to compare in situations like this anyway. And implying that someone "doesn't have a heart" for locking your thread is just ludicrous. Gaming Side is Gaming Side. The thread didn't belong there, so it was locked.

Not that comparisons should be made, but MJ is much, much bigger than Whitney ever was.

A shame. I suppose it's a little early but I suppose that remake of The Bodyguard that was going to star Beyonce with Clint Eastwood directing is now shelved indefinitely.

And that's not me being crass, that's actually the remake 'package' that WB has put together for that production.

Clint directing a Bodyguard remake.

*shrugs shoulders*

I think "How will I know" was her best song.

Agreed.
