Ultimately , we got to the point where you didn't need anything extra to CFW your PSP, the DS at least needed you to go buy an R4 or whatever.

I'm pretty sure that had an effect - the other thing was that the DS crowd pulled in a whole ton of players who weren't traditional techy leaning gamers as well with Brain Training etc.

I'm sure you're right and piracy didn't kill the PSP - but i'm pretty sure it's one of 3 or 4 very large factors that harmed it (definitely in the west)

you will have to factor reset your machine each time you want to switch accounts - there's no quick log in/out a la PSP over wireless unfortunately. Not tried to get multiple user data onto one card as i had multiple cards in preperation (and i initially got "this card can only be used by account <account name> - to use this card you must format it now" warning - but apparently you can skip this step - never tried, can anyone fill us in on this please?)

I thought you only had to factory reset if you only had 1 card with multiple data on it? Im sure i read that each region acvount would be a tied to a card so it was just a case of switching memory cards.

Is it possible for the right analog stick to emulate the face buttons when playing PSP games?

Im playing Peace Walker and can't figure out how to do it. :(
Trigger the emulator menu by using the touchscreen. You should be able to connect the dots on how to map the right analog from there.

About the PSP piracy issue, I wholeheartedly think that it did not kill the PSP. I knew kids, fucking children, who used those R4/M3 carts and pirated the hell out of the DS. I'm talking about kids in elementary school who would go to class and talk about which games they'd download and recommend others to their friends for download. When I came across this I thought "holy fuck, kids these days..." A lot of other factors brought down the PSP. I'm hoping that one day the Vita can get "jail broken," but I will always support developers. Bring on Gravity Rush!

Hmm... I am very interested. The back part of my Vita has been scratched very lightly in one spot (somehow) so I was hoping there would be some sort of protector for it (and the front). Looks like I finally found one. Thanks! I think I'm going to pick this up and another screen protector for the back.

When you mean the back, do you mean the rear touch pad?

Still need to reset, you just don't have to wipe the card I believe.

In some markets, even the retailers sell CFW'ed PSPs with free pirated games and movies, as many as you can fit on your memory sticks.

Dude, it's the same with DS.
Those R4 cards being sold filled with games. They're ridiculously common here in the States.

Ahh ok so its just a case of resetting and inputting relevant account details on it.
Only reason i ask is i want resi 2 and a couple of psp games off the us store but didnt want to pay for them if there was no way id be able to play them on my uk vita.

For core gamers, it may have lesser effect. For casuals, they "cheapen" games. I have execs who bought PSPs with "bundled" games for their kids. They called to ask me which PSP is the most easy to pirate.

No different to my days at school in the late 80s. All of us with Commodore 64s and someone always had the latest version of 'Fast Hack 'Em', a copy disc (although games needed to be cracked) and someone always knew someone who could get the latest games. The only thing that's changed is that people are more aware it is illegal today than 25 years ago.

Anyway, sorry to take this off topic, let's get it back on T.

dam i NEED this so bad ... fifa looks amazing

Game looks amazing but one thing I noticed that irks me was the size of that notification when someone came only. Took up a shitload of real estate. Be nicer if it was just a tiny square in the corner with a thumbnail of your friends avatar or something and a little green suqare around it for when they came online. Would be much smarter imo.

So how do pre-orders look at everyone's local Gamestop?

Pretty good so far. I work at the biggest Fnac here in Spain and we already have 45 Wifi Vitas and around 20 3G's. In fact we'll be asking Sony for more Wifi preorder boxes this week, this is Sonyland after all :)

Yep. It's really distracting. Could at least be more transparent.

*nod*

For anyoine that has a Vita atm, can it only be turned off? Is there an option to move the notification somewhere else on the screen (A few 360 games allowed this, or used their own preferred place of display).

Also, while I am in the question buzz, does the syncing of the trophies still take as long as its PS3 counterpart?

Nope and nope.

Yes.

Well, I got the Hori Case, and the CT crystal case so I'm good to go for the 22nd.

Question though: If I have the crystal case, do I need the Hori faceplate?

This wallpaper gave me the idea of having a wallpaper of Toro's apartment.

Ah, Forbes... authors of some of the foremost articles in the 'handheld gaming is doomed, and there's no doubt about it' genre.

Anyone know of a website currently shipping the silicon cover for the Vita? Would like one to arrive in time for launch here in NZ. I've checked Zavvi and Amazon (both say released on 22nd) and Planetaxel (No third party accessories listed).

Couple of quick and random Vita questions.

Do the trophies sync automatically, or does it work PS3 style with a manual sync?

Does Playstation Plus integrate into the Vita experience? Cloud saves for example?

Despite me spending the last 4 weeks talking myself out of it, I just cancelled my wifi preorder and went with 3G launch bundle. The GPS is what pushed me over the edge. Ugh, whats wrong with me!

you can only activate 1 account per vita, when u switch accounts it deactivates previous account and you must activate the current account to be able to activate trophies/games again tied to that account.

Hey guys, is there any way to stop the screen from turning off? I'm downloading a game right now and every time the screen goes off, it seems like the download pauses too.

Really? I was thinking about getting that case.

Hard cases just provide 2 surfaces between which to grind dust and dirt against your device. Same thing with silicone covers. They cause these problems even for glass phones which are MUCH harder to scratch than the Vita's plastic.

If you want an all-the-time cover for the Vita (to protect against drops), my recommendations are:
a.) Put an all-around film cover like Skinomi or Barrier Chief on your Vita, then put that in your cover of choice.
b.) Barring the film, get a TPU cover, provided that it has a nice tight fit around the seams. Hori makes one I believe, though I don't know how good the fit is. It will let less dust in than a silicone or polycarbonate cover, and holds it's shape much better than the former.

Didn't they say the Vita is doomed? Financial news...

I can imagine Hirai entering Forbes office all angry

Hirai: "Stop saying that portable console is dead! It's not true!"

Editor in Chief: "Or what?"

Hirai: "Or otherwise I'll smack you with this big bag of money!"

Then Hirai proceeds to smack the EIC and leaves the office, leaving the big bag behind him.

EIC: "Ewan, we need a pro piece on PSVita, can you write one for tomorrow? Thankyou."

I don't have my Vita yet, but my guess would be that this is a power setting you can change?

Settings > Power Saving

Can only set it to something like 5 minutes. Five F'n minutes!

Hey Laser,

Which one would you recommend? Skinomi or Barrier Chief?

go to settings and to the Power Saving options

it will have "auto sleep" or something similar set to 1 minute - you can set it to 5 mins max (i hope to god they allow us to switch this off)

i think if it suspends this way though it -does- keep downloading. At least i think it does for me

You don't happen to have any links to North American sellers with the Hori TPU cover do you?

I have an irrational fear that I won't find any 32gb cards in my city come FEB launch day. *sweats*

When I went into EB Games, they had gotten a shipment of 4 of them, two of them were pre-ordered and I took the 3rd. This store tends to get pretty decent shipments of product too.

From what I can tell, the Vita continues to download stuff if you allow it to put itself to sleep, but it will stop downloading stuff if you manually put it to sleep, yeah.

Strange stuff.

And that’s before they start exploiting the award winning catalogue of the Playstation portable, all of which will run on the PS Vita, and there’s a lot of classy games that can be reworked at a budget price.

:lol

I wish I was as optimistic about the Vita as he is. I only agree with a handful of the points he makes and don't have faith in Sony to make the right decisions to make the platform succeed.

That said, the 22nd can't get here soon enough.

Is the setting overridden if you're plugged into the mains?
