Gay and Bisexual relationship thread |OT|

Solidarity, brother. At times it feels like I'm the only queer who doesn't feel the least amount of interest in those godawful popshit stars. Guys like that just help give evidence for the inane stereotypes.

You probably wouldn't remember this depending on your age, but in her heyday, Whitney was a beacon of poise, grace, and beauty. Combined with her talent, attitude and perceived strength, becoming a gay icon was inevitable for her. She was like the black Babs, I'd say. The Bodyguard and it's attached soundtrack cemented this image; her marriage to Bobby Brown wiped it all away.

After that era, her life and story was always about her comebacks and her fighting against personal adversaries. And that despite it all—the erratic behavior, the drug abuse, the Jesus sweats—she still possessed the talent and strength we knew she always had. She became a soap opera, and the public (inclu. gays) love that shit.

That's how I see it anyway, but that's just a generalization. Everyone's personal Whitney story is different. Personally, I became attached to her because of the household I grew up in. As a black American, there was really no escaping her presence. And through my exposure to her voice and her songs, I became addicted to singing and performing. She wasn't my sole influence, but she did shape me into the person I am today. She meant a lot to me, and will always mean a lot to me, just because of her influence in my life. I wish I could have thanked her personally for that, but she'll always remain in my thoughts, my heart, and probably in my singing voice a little.

Anyway I'll be sad when people like Herbie Hancock, George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Maurice White, Donald Fagen, etc. die and none of you will give a shit about that either. I dislike Whitney Houston's music and I didn't know her personally, so I had absolutely no connection with her.

Pssh, I'll probably be devastated right along with my mama when any of those musicians kick the bucket.

smh, man. I'm not the biggest fan of divas, either (except GaGa, <3), but it's no gay's responsibility to act "more straight" so the straights will like us more.

Oh you are? Groovy ^_^

I wish women wanted to dick me :(

don't worry Cheez, it'll happen. Probably for you sooner than later.

btw, I'm probably the straightest >_>. Though I do go gaga/melt if I hear Kaya's voice. <<

This is my exact point. What does acting straight or gay have to do with listening to music that isn't shat out by some talentless hack who needs layers of autotune to sound even passable to the usual trogladytes that support that industry.

Whitney Houston wasn't specifically a gay icon, and she was definitely not a "popshit star". Girl had an amazing voice and was very talented back in the days. You're probably too young to remember or care but that doesn't mean you can shit all over it just so you could perpetuate the inane stereotype of the gaybro who's better than these fags who like pop culture.

You don't care about her death? Fine, but no need to be touting it for everyone to hear. That just makes you look super childish.

I was talking more about diva worship in general. And I'm not trying to be the "Im gay but im straight acting" asshole, I just pop music. I condescend to straight guys and gals like this too, I just get frustrated by the way that diva worship seems to have become part of stereotype of what it means to be the extroverted gay guy.

oh and fair point lenovox, I was unaware that she was actually talented. She isn't that old so I assumed she was in the era of trash pop.

the whole "lolz even though i like dudes i am still better than you because you show your femininity and i act more masculine than you" bs is so tired in the gay community. Just stop. Who gives a shit what other gay guys listen to? How does that affect you? It doesnt make you any less of a man. SMHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And who gives a flying fuck about stereotypes? Get over it. Stereotypes are based on truth. The idiots who wanna believe that all gay guys are the same are just that.

Because its sort of sad to see that artistic shit eating has become part of a stereotype.

I see you've torn yourself away from Netflix to grace us with your presence :)

I wouldn't mind (as much) if it was people who actually made good music.

can bisexuals start a stereotype where we only listen to avantgarde jazz that causes people physical pain? It could be a sexual kink or something.

Yeah, like Madonna and that's about it.

>_>

I think the overall image of a diva is just as appealing as the music for many gay men, but it's just pop music, no need to overanalyse it.

I like pop music, but I listen to a lot of other stuff as well and I'm sure people ITT have very broad taste in music, regardless of its artistic worth.

I was unaware that she was actually talented.

I get the feeling this sort of thing is par for the course with you, and not just in the subjective matters of music discussion.

Welp I'm out of a job, lol. Found out the GM went out of his way to make sure my company approved promotion wouldn't happen. Apparntly I wasn't worth the raise because he could pay me less and I'd still do it, I just clocked out and left after 2 seconds of hearing that. This is after my workload has tripled at the same pay rate and I've worked another 12+ hour day for sevrel months.

Fuck yeah capitolism!

I'm just uncomfortable with being condescending to people just because they have different taste in music.

I respect people with different taste in music, but this is pop we're talking about. As a music lover I'm annoyed at people who only listen to pop and aren't open to other music (which has been my experience with a lot of gay people so far).

Not really. I take music seriously, much more than almost anything in my life. When I see people who treat music like some sort of wall paper it pisses me off.

Then why cant people talk about that?

I'm just tired of the same shitty Gaga/Rihanna/Perry/Christina/whatever bullshit over and over again.

and you're sure that they're just not open to it as opposed to them just not liking it?

I'm having a tough grammar day today.

Exactly! We share the same views. I love people who actually listen to the music and aren't so much focused on the singing and lyrics. In that case it does not matter to me which genre they listen to.

I should add that I do and always have acknowledged Houston's talent, her music is just too emotional and cheesy for me.

Translation:

"I respect those with a different taste in music, except those who have taste that I don't like."

She was barely talked about when she was alive. Now that she's dead she's suddenly worshipped.

I hope we're not talking about Whitney. She's still played in every YT club i went to, whether it's "Dance With Somebody" or "Million Dollar Bill"

Some people in this thread need to have a nice quiet seat, because the ignorance is shameful and embarrassing.

That guy seems to be on the fast track to permanent Junior status. don't bother.

Awesome. I would ask you more question, but I just started my CS degree.

Hmmm....

What programming languages do you know?

I'll be on the art side of things. Programming (or what little I've done) just frustrates me to no end.

Because they're like pantomime characters whose failures are ripe for the picking.

I doubt anyone would have anything as interesting (entertaining) to say about what I'm listening to right now (The Rapture).

Cheez you ever hear Emilie Autumn? Not exactly pop but good stuff.

No, not necessarily. I understand what they mean.

Even if it is "shitty pop music" that I like, I like to say and discuss with people exactly what I like about the music. Whether it's Britney or Lana Del Rey, I always try to explain what I like/dislike about each song. Is it the instrumentals? The way the artist sings? Does it remind me of other songs? ...

And I greatly enjoy when other gaffers actually express their opinion on the music as well. You know, actually review the music a bit so that you can talk to each other about our music tastes. But you rarely see anyone actually saying anything worthy of reading, and it's all stuff like "when will yo faves", "wigs have been snatched", "Lady Caca, Holy Spiritney", "haters stay pressed", and countless upon countless of gifs.

I mean, I sometimes appreciate some tongue in cheek "fighting" and occasionally the gifs are hilarious, but all in all it makes for shitty (actually no) discussion of the music itself. It sometimes makes me wonder what exactly it is that people enjoy about the music they "stan" for. The music itself, or all the cattiness that comes with the territory?

Yes, because unless they're hurting someone, I don't really care what other people do.

Or at least I try not to. I'm not perfect.

Exactly.

Periodically the Gay thread makes me want to bail. ::bleh::

Just be happy for other people. Everyone's so turned off by stereotypes, but then catty shit spills out of their asses like yesterday's lube.

Well, this thread went to shit because I made a snide comment.

Stay pressed, fellow homos.

Also that junior talking about taking "music seriously" is LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

That's nice. It's nice that you think that all Pop fans only listen to just that. The point is other than the fact that you know we like pop you don't bother to ask if we like anything else. You just generalize us all as being ignorant and only liking the same artists. Bye gurl

EDIT: Just read your post about "taking music seriously" LAWD you need help ch.....

Fair enough. I guess I should reign in the "your taste in music is bad because youre a bad person" schtick a bit(lot).
