It really bums me out how much reviews affect gamer's buying decisions.
Maybe it's because I'm old, but I just buy the shit I want to buy, regardless of review scores.
Some of my favorite games have gotten terrible review scores (ie, Second Sight and Shadow of Destiny on the PS2).
While I certainly don't mind reading about what other people think of the games coming out, the best critic of them all is me. If a game is in a genre I like, and it looks promising, I will pick it up. I understand budget reasons, but for me, that's kind of the double edged sword of gaming. I've certainly been burned on games (ie, Blood Omen 2; Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness), but hey, thems the breaks.
I don't need some paid reviewer with different tastes and expectations than me telling me what I should and shouldn't buy. This is horribly hypocritical of me, since I have my own gaming site, and I write reviews myself, but even so, I don't expect people to take my word as gospel. I just put my opinion out there, and don't particularly want to affect anyone's buying decisions.
If a game like Army: Corps of Hell looked interesting to you, I don't see why a review from anyplace should deter you.
But hey, what do I know? I thought Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City were two of the best games I played last year. Bethesda gets no free pass from me, as much as I enjoyed Skyrim when it was working.
It's still one more week before I get my Vita, so the anticipation is building, especially since Amazon has my Uncharted: GA listed as "Shipping Soon," so I should get it on Wednesday, and then have a full week to stare at the box until I can play it...
As a fan of Uncharted, I don't feel particularly burnt out on the series, and am really excited about GA. Different strokes, folks.
