English localization does it again.

Yunyun Syndrome!? Rhythm Psychosis launched yesterday, a rhythm based game where a brainrotted hikikomori girl shitposts online.
English speaking players instantly noticed how the translation takes considerable liberties with the source material and there was a backlash on steam forums, reviews, twitter etc.

Even a simple word like やめろ-Yamero (stop it) is localized as END FASCISM! While other languages remain faithful to the Japanese original.

The main dev Fuyuki Hayashi quickly posted a machine translated steam update promising fast updates so the translation reflects his vision.

Non-English speaking devs need to really take ownership of this and call out bad faith translators or they will be the ones facing the consequences.

These deranged woke agencies/individuals should be kicked out of business.

Yes! I hope the dev names and shames the localizer. This shit has to stop, and the only way it does is devs feel backlash and learn not to work with these folks.

Oh yeah, I saw this earlier. smh.

This is the website of the localiser btw https://www.dragonbaby.com/
And this is the personal website of the main guy (?) https://www.loc-x-load.com/
Check these quotes out lol
I provide English translation and creative/British editing for Japanese video games.

In my eyes, creative translation should not be 1:1 …so if you're looking for literal, you're in the wrong place!
So, you have an idea but got stuck? If you need VO direction, production assistance, help bringing your game to Japan, or LGBT/sensitivity reading - this service is for you.

As a transgender leader in localization and management, I've seen my fair share of dumpster fires, and I can help your project avoid joining them!
The gaming industry deserves better - better conditions, better rates, better work/life balance.

Dragonbaby was founded with a human heart and to this day is transgender-led, fully supporting inclusion and representation for all. Our team also stands proudly at the forefront of #TranslatorsInTheCredits and exists as an alternative to the rampant greed and sloppification of our industry.

plus we really just like to have a nice time. ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂)⸝❤︎

That list of games and other stuff that they claim to have worked on, and the list of companies, isn't funny at all, though. What the hell. There are some really important names here. Why would anyone let these obvious weirdo vandal translators touch their work? :/

Saw this on Twitter before I posted, but OP was already getting crowded. An example showing how other languages are more faithful while English sticks out like a sore thumb. They also removed a bunch of references. I'm not surprised they removed the Rance reference, a classic Eroge series with a skeezy protag. But Welcome to the N.H.K on the other hand is a novel/manga/anime about a hikikomori, so it fits the theme.

Whens the Steam page going up?
The page is already up, or did you mean the fix?

Yikes thats horrific.

I am not one of those "T/L should be 100% literal" - because honestly thats clunky too. But adding political spin is waaaay too far. Frankly anything that betrays the creators vision is bad and should be called out.

This is just gross.

Enjoy not making money, I guess. How has this pack of retards not just spontaneously combusted?

Devs should use grok auto-translate instead for these games. Save your money and just buy grok tokens. Please. I've made Japanese friends on x and it works great and is unbiased and unwoke with no agenda just proper common sense localization. How can it be worser than this my friends.

The line "Ryō noroi de shibaranaikara" (literal translation: "I won't bind you with a Command Spell") has been replaced with "i will NEVER be victimized under fascism again",
Never in my life did I think I'd ever see a Fate series reference rendered into some cum guzzler's low tier schizo rage bait.

Apparently there's a whole bunch of references just straight up nuked

The first patch rolled out an hour ago, taking care of some egregious examples. With a more thorough sweep later.
Some people note the setting, style & references pegs it in the 2010s era, but the English localizer still added skibidi poggers zoomer speak to it.

Another baby? These guys are freaks, no doubt a split off from Sweet Baby.

EDIT: MGS on the list??? Oh what were they the ones to write that bullshit "Product of its time" ''Warning''
I think MGS added new dialogue for platform specific inputs, maybe it's that? Or it could be the menu in the remaster edition.

Localizers are out of a job soon anyway with AI.
They know it's over.

Most of them deserve it. The whole industry (at least for English) was hijacked by absolutely insane people whose only purpose is to push a political agenda.

Seriously... the overrepresentation of trannie jannies in English video game localization is crazy. Has to be the highst of any industry, beating out even games "journalism."

This is what Ai was made for.

Interesting, is there a whole story about that?
I'm not sure if anything was officially stated, but apparently Kojima disliked the (large) amount of changes Blaustein made to the US script of Metal Gear Solid, and this is why he didn't translate the subsequent games, and the translations became much closer to the original Japanese. Kojima haters have generally used this as yet another reason why Kojima is a hack (because many of the changes Blaustein made were actually kind of good and became series cannon), but the reality was the changes were always a pretty egregious example of a translator taking liberties to make a game all about them. Blaustein always got a pass though because, again, the changes were mostly good. Like even the term "codec" was made up by him, and wasn't in the original Japanese version.

Blaustein has talked a lot about his translation of MGS, you can probably find interviews that give more examples of things he changed/made up for the translation.

I actually really like good localization, I just wish the localizers had less political motivations, and just wanted games to do well and sound correct in their local market. It's sad what these people have become.

Agreed, I've always been of the mindset that good is good, so if the translator took liberties and the result is good then that is fine.

Unfortunately nothing about the Yunyun translation is good lol

If Japanese to English localisers are gonna be like this, then yeah, the devs SHOULD replace them with AI :/ .

I'm not really interested in buying this game myself, anyway, but it's gross that they think they can take a developer's money and do this to their game. I assume the reason it's so unusually blatant is that the translators assumed that nobody would notice with a game so small.

The problem is that Japan doesn't seem to realize what is happening with localization work on their games. People need to tell Japan about the problem so it can be solved at the source by not hiring people like these localizers

Oh, so that explains why their list of games and anime they've "touched" goes back into the 90s. They must've decided to include everything Blaustein ever worked on, like the first Pokemon movie and Shadow Hearts and Suikoden 2.

That makes me feel a little better, I guess :pie_relieved:. I'd assumed that Dragonbaby got to work on remasters of all that stuff or something.

This kind of bullshit is why I have no faith that Atlus USA won't ruin Persona 4 remake, they have become one of the worst companies when it comes to hiring these agenda pushing retards.

Yep, I feel for everyone hoping for this game. It will be badly vandalized.

There are agencies using woke localizers as entry to the Japanese dev sphere. It starts with bad localizations and follows with "cultural changes" that lead to having Westerners moving over to Japan to censor creators from inception. It's an evil scheme that needs to stop at once.

Unlike legacy japanese brands, the koreans and chinese didn't buy into this bullshit and thats why they are constantly asking players for feedback on localization and firing translators when something like this happens. Decisive action is mandatory. I'm not buying any game touched by wacko trannies the same way I dont buy any with the "SBI seal of quality".

And, please guys, AI is not the solution. GOOD TRANSLATORS are. There are many good ones out there. The problem is that they are being discriminated on in favor of the insidious alphabet lobbies.

It's too bad. I actually prefer the original Persona 3 translation over the one that they did for the remake, even though the remake translation is apparently more accurate to the Japanese script. Elizabeth was hilarious in ps2 Persona 3, and she's not in the remake. But that quality of uh, translator improvisation that we got on the ps2 doesn't seem to happen very often anymore.

It's not that they don't realize, those studios executives simply don't care, they will do whatever they can to save money on the wetern releases, for them consumers outside of Japan are not important and that's why we got shit like this:

Also, as usual Atlus keeps working with bad localization teams :

I love that one of the examples I saw had an accurate English translation... IN THE GERMAN VERSION 🤣

in the original it says something about not wanting to be bound to corporate life anymore, and the german localisation translated that as "Anti-Corporate Life", while the English one has some completely out of context nonsense about NSFW stuff...

lol, well, that really was different though. They weren't doing that for political reasons, they were doing it out of a misguided attempt to try to make it appeal to American kids, like how they made Ash Ketchum call onigiri Donuts and removed as many references to Japan in Sailor Moon as they could.
