Whitney Houston has died

This might sound odd but I remember during 9/11 in the middle of all that chaos in Downtown Brooklyn word began spreading through the crowds that Whitney Houston died of drug overdose. Just a what the fuck moment. Buildings on fire and people stopped to ponder at her death but goes to show many for long time knew she would most likely would die this way(if indeed drugs played a role).

Oh man, I had to stop watching that after a few seconds into post drug addict Whitney :'(

It sadly reminds me of listening to some of the stuff Amy Winehouse was recording before she died and realizing that the artist I was a fan of died years before.

Even that first 40 seconds was actually a few years post-peak, since it was after she'd started doing the drugs and after the Bodyguard Tour (which gave her nodules).

What's really amazing is that her voice lasted as long as it did.

She had been smoking (cigarettes) and drinking often for years, had gotten vocal nodules from the Bodyguard World Tour (121 tour dates!) in 93 - 94, and started doing drugs with Bobby around the same time (93 - 94), and by 1996 was doing marijuana laced with cocaine on almost a daily basis - and even after all that heavy abuse, her voice still sounded pretty good by around 2000.
 
I will say that her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the Superbowl was probably the best I ever heard.

Definitely sad, hasn't really "hit" me yet like some celebrity deaths do, only because I haven't had a chance to sit down and think about it. I appreciate her music and talent, but never was someone that owned her records, or listened to her music. It's true, she was a power-house, and now with female vocalists reliant heavily on shitty effects, there's really no one like her. Such a shame it had to end this way. Believe it or not, I never saw her national anthem performance ("mimed" or not, amazing vocals), and the isolated track posted was really good.

Heard about this last night when my friend saw it on twitter on his phone. Really sad, but not shocking. She was a big part of my youth with her songs and her fame. Really awesome voice and songs.

Honestly, of living singers I think only Madonna and perhaps Elton John would have a bigger impact if they passed away. This is huge. I'm somewhat in shock.
 
Thought I'd post my Whitney Houston's death experience.

So tonight a "friend"...someone I'd even considered my best friend for a couple of years posts on FB..."Sick of Whitney this Whitney that. She should have seen it coming considering her lifestyle" or something in that style.

He gets a handful of postive comments from his friends instantly, not surprising considering his friends are mostly idiots(which was part of the reason I stopped interacting with this guy IRL).

Nevertheless I respond...First off I point out that it isn't clear how she died but yes...alcohol/drugs do kill. I then say it is pretty amazing that he posted this considering his own father lived a lifestyle of "smoking two packs a day of cigarettes his entire life"(the reason he gave me for his father's death a few years ago) before dying of lung cancer!!! I then told him that all of people HE should have some compassion.

Apparently he didn't like my response. He responded how he sat with with his father on Doctor's meetings and they never said it was the cigarettes that killed him....total bull considering what he said to me years ago when it happened. He then told me his father taught him compassion...really? I didn't see it in his response to Whitney's death. Also his father was pretty gung-ho "Let's bomb the entire middle east" in 2004 to rid ourselves of the problem there...not very compassionate or humane. Nevertheless I did like his father in the few times I was in his presence(MidEast craziness aside). This "friend" ended in telling me to go crawl back under the rock I've been hiding under(as we haven't talked in years) yet either of us could contact each other with the click of a button on FB...so he's just as guilty in that regard.

Strange thing is...is that we would debate about things all the time and were pretty good at agreing to disagree and still being friends with each other. Anyhow...I defriended the dumbfuck.

Met him in 1998 and we were friends. Became good friends in 2001 through 2007. Hung out a few times in 2009 but yeah...this dude is a joke.

That was petty, but I feel you've had a bubbling resentment for this guy and it burst out on facebook. And if he really was a friend, bringing up his dad's death was crass. There are other ways to get the point across. You should also remember that people post stupid shit on facebook without really thinking or even meaning much. You shouldn't take it upon yourself to right these wrongs.

Jesus, this interview is funnier than all of those MadTV parodies combined. Unbelievable.

I'll give Whitney credit for one thing, though - she still looked beautiful here, even after all the drug abuse. What is it with black people? They always easily look 10 years younger than their real age.
