Wait a minute... so we technically read the newest chapters from the big 3 before the average Joe picks up the latest issue of WSJ? I always thought it comes in japan someone picks up a magazine and scan and translate from there
I always assumed the leak happened during the printing process.
I thought it was subscribers getting it early in the post
What sorcery is this?

Q: How about the RAWs found here?
A: The RAWs you find here are earlier than the Japanese market. For example, when you get a RAW for a title on Friday, that particular chapter is actually due out on the following Monday in the Japanese market.

Q: Why does that happen?
A: That happens both locally (in Japan) and internationally, for the same reason. Most bookstores will get their stock before the weekend so that they can go on the shelf on Monday, both in Japan and overseas. So, stores in remote or rural locations in Japan will receive their stock much earlier than stores in the city. Some of these stores, especially the ones overseas, will sell them earlier than they are supposed to (Monday, Japan time). Thus, the WSJ issue beats the release date, and is available for purchase.

As for the possibility of VIZ getting scans early or whatever, it's certainly possible - companies that license shows for streaming get those episodes early, as proven by the One Pisu fiascos with episodes getting ripped and pirated early - but that's as always back in Shueisha's end as to whether such a thing will happen.

Bakuman 166 (sort of):

US Pop music fans, even pre-teen girls, are nothing like that. Timberlake was with Britney Spears while he was still a pre-teen idol, and Bieber has had several girlfriends. It isn't really comparable at all.

I really don't see how the two compare. Asking about pop stars girlfriends/boyfriends seem like a normal thing here.

There was a news story about the girl Justin Bieber is currently dating getting death threats once it was uncovered she was dating him (I believe it was posted on GAF too but I don't feel like digging up the thread). Edit: Here's the TMZ article instead.

And then there was a post in that Chris Brown thread with all these twitter posts from girls saying they'd let Chris Brown beat them up.

Anyway you get the idea, crazy fans everywhere.

Bakuman

This arc is going to end with them going public with their relationship and winning back her fans by being brave enough to stand up to the rumors or some other cliche.

You say cliche like that has been done SO many other times...

On the discussion of RAWs, Viz wouldn't even have to get them that early. Remember scanlators spend a lot of time cleaning up RAWs, as they're simply high res scans. Viz wouldn't have to worry about this considering they receive the cleaned scans straight from the source. They're only have to worry about translating and typesetting which, based on the speed scanlators do this, shouldn't take too long. There's no reason they couldn't have up to date scans at most within a day of the faster groups like MS and whoever does MRs

Its not exactly a one-to-one with streaming tv shows. With tv shows you just have to worry about it airing once and after that you don't have to worry about audiences watching international versions before yours. And since there aren't many reruns in Japan, the waiting time until streaming sites can air the episode is a matter of hours rather than days.

But with manga the wait time is much longer. Publishers want to sell their magazine throughout the week and even after that for late-readers. In fact, I'm fairly certain that Viz's two week delay is entirely due to this. The Japanese publishers simply have no incentive to endanger their home market to accommodate a bunch of frequent free-riders in an already insignificant US marketplace.

Whether or not Viz gets the scans earlier is a moot point. For all we know they already do! But its not going to change the real obstacle at hand.

There's no reason they couldn't have up to date scans at most within a day of the faster groups like MS and whoever does MRs
Viz can't release their scans before the Japanese version is even out. So its impossible for them to ever beat the scanlation community.

If Viz gets it up to day and date (or even 1-2 days) with Japan, the only people that would complain would legitimately be unpleasable assholes.

The problem with the first thing you were saying (which I totally get is Shueisha's position and not necessarily yours) is that it's a based on a delusional fantasy: Japanese people can read the raws without translation and already get them far in advance of the print release. Altering the legal US model has literally no effect on the illegal model in Japan. It's fundamentally idiotic. Even to the extent that they don't want the "cleaned" raws (I presume raws being released in Japan aren't cleaned the way they are on MS), the legal US model has no bearing on this because the source of those were already the illegal scans.

The hilarious part about these seiyu-boyfriend scandals is that even pre-teen girls into boy bands like NSYNC and Justin Beiber don't freak out when the object has a significant other.

This is one of those things that don't actually translate well to US audiences, although maybe they can just call themselves Mashiro and Takagi now instead of that dumb pseudonym.

Yeah... I really have no frame of reference for what happened in this chapter.

This makes sense. At the end of the day my only legitimate complaint is the lack of the series I really want to read (Hunter X Hunter) in the Shonen Jump Alpha lineup.

Soul Eater

Kid is badass.

Other than that just standard battle shit. Felt meh about the whole chapter. Maybe I should just wait until the manga is over and then marathon it.

On another note

EuroGAF, want digital manga? Go beg JManga on Twitter. They are asking for feedback on worldwide availability.

Love Triangle vol 2

Bought and read the first volume 1 or 2 years ago, but only now bought the second volume. My first impression of this series wasn't positive, though after a second read of the first volume I re evaluated the comedy somewhat. What initially put me off (the stupidity of Sakiko and her vulgarity, as well as her transformation art-wise when she's horny) is now what I like about this.
In volume 2 there are some scenes that I found awesome for a reason or another, like this one (though it doesn't sound as awesome to me in English as it did in Italian):

Needless to say, I'll be picking up the last 2 volumes soon.

You mean you aren't saving my romance recommendation posts? Cause I aint doing it again. *folds arms*

No, no, my good man, of course not :)

But no harm in seeing what other people recommend to, right? :)

To that end, I'm really enjoying Bonnouji--it's light-hearted story and sugarly sweet characters with cute circumstances all around made me smile all the way through while reading it. So thanks for echothreealpha for that one.

Don't be mean.

Now I'm curious.

Any sign of this actually happening as i might just do the same thing (starting from where i left it).
With the way things are going maybe within a year? Monthly manga are very unpredictable since some months you just get troll chapters with 20ish pages and the pacing goes to hell.

Now I'm curious.

Do you want to cry and feel depressed? Then read this manga.

But seriously read it. It's fucking good.

oh god the pain

i wonder if mangazone will step their speed up in order to completely fill mangastream's shoes. I want my midnight manga

They need to hire someone with basic English skills to do some proofreading if so.

I think I was banned right around when this occurred. The big thing is that at the time One Manga was relatively unique so them getting shut down was murky territory such that we thought manga was actually going away.

Yeah... I really have no frame of reference for what happened in this chapter.
It isn't so much I don't *understand* what happened, it's that I can't actually relate to it because I think it's fucking retarded that Aya Hirano started losing jobs because she had the audacity to have sex with men.

For anyone wondering how early Viz's access to the Jump chapters is, Stephan Paul (One Piece's translator) mentioned it on one of the recent Unofficial One Piece Podcasts. I can't remember exactly how early it is, but it was definitely early than the leaked scans. Lucky bastard gets to see it before anyone else... nice job perk.

Soul Eater

Where is my Justin/Stein fight? :(

I really like the design of the DS. I loled at rainbow attack. I am glad to see that Kid could control his Sanzo powers. The pacing is really slow right now.

Give me Stein/Justin fight next chapter Ohkubo.

Hajime no Ippo - If Itagaki winds up winning this fight I think I'm done with the series for a while. There's absolutely no fucking explanation why he can come back from being slaughtered like that.

The entire before-street-date thing is a complete non-issue. It has no significance to any discussion ever and I'll explain why.

Let's take the hypothetical scenario where Viz releases, not Monday, not Friday, not Wednesday, but Monday the week before. That's an entire week. For the sake of discussion.

People will still pirate it and people will still not pay money for it. Conversely there are people who will pay for a good subscription (monday, all series) even if there are scanlations before it (and even if those people read those scanlations).

The point is that as long as the subscription shows Viz are trying (again, monday+all series), decent people will support. The scanlations aren't even the competition (and most don't even want to be).

To that end, I'm really enjoying Bonnouji--it's light-hearted story and sugarly sweet characters with cute circumstances all around made me smile all the way through while reading it. So thanks for echothreealpha for that one.
it's ok

Magi (spoilers ahoy)

@ Mor against shackles + hyenas:
"Fucking hyenas that's fucked up... she really can't break it? She's trying again, can she now? She has to fuck break it break it br- SHE JUMPED OVER THE FUCKING OH MY GOD"

@Judal fight
"Damn what's up with that guy, Aladdin beat his- oh, fine Ugo then, Ugo beat his- oh wow, that was fast, he already did it.. wait, Ugo you can stop now, dude's.. Ugo? Bro? You can.. you can stop now why are you WHY IS HE STILL GOING ON JESUS CALM DOWN FOR FUCK'S SAKE STOP FIGHTING"

10/10, seriously. I'm serious. Those moments. I was so into it.

I love how Mor just needs to step really hard and everyone listen to her. I also love her in general and she is the most awesome thing. Her reaction to Ali's whining was gold.

Not sure how I feel about another "new evil organization" after I went through both Gamaran and Black Cat recently, but I guess it's fine.

The art is really good, by the way.

One Piece Spoilers

The flaming island is separated/on a lake with a frozen mountain on the other side. Usopp spots a flying dude/birdman. Sanji and co are led into a jail and find a dismembered head. The dismembered head talks. It’s a citizen of Wano country. Looks like he came to find his son. He refuses to be acquainted with pirates? (I'm assuming it's Sanji and co who propose they break out together.) Anyway, they bust out of the jail with a Franky beam. Outside of the jail are a bunch of gigantic kids.

I'll need to catch up on Soul Eater, it's a series that really benefits from reading a bunch of chapters at a time, rather than as they come out.

Bakuman

Is there any romance in this manga?
I only read a few chapters when it began and stopped to do a marathon catch up later
just wondering if its worth it if you are only into guy gets the girl stuff.

the promise they made at the beginning

So like what you're talking about drags the middle of it down, and then a lot of other tangental plotlines drag it down. The problem is that there's romance but it's bullshit 100% of the time so you get angry when they awkwardly try to pull it off.

Currently going through Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and it ain't that bad (though the MC can be somewhat annoying at times).

how is this any different from miyata winning over randy boy?

Naruto Spoilers

Naruto is amusing.

Begins with Karin the interrogation room. She seems infatuated while looking at Sasuke’s photograph, but since she was almost killed, she tears it up.

Suigetsu and Juugo go to Orochimaru’s secret base.
Suigetsu finds Orochimaru’s secret chamber.
He finds a scroll and gets really excited.

A large group of white Zetsu appear before Sasuke.
Sasuke uses a combination of Susano’o and Amaterasu.
One Zetsu flies through magic? He looks fragmented (not sure about that one)
White Zetsu: “It’s war. Defeat Killer Bee and Uzumaki Naruto. Our forces are rapidly diminishing.
Sasuke is flooded with memories of Naruto.

Sasuke: “I’m going to your location to cut you down!”
Sasuke finishes all the white Zetsu off.

Sasuke and a poem to Itachi.

Itachi is on his way somewhere.

Sasuke returns his katana to its scabbard.
Next week.

Let's see what happens today. It'll be interesting.

Edit: And it seems that MS is making up for their lack of titles by still flexing their "we get shit early" muscles: they just released the "J-Preview" issue which gives detailed and organized spoilers for One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter X Hunter (in that order)...including a summary and page-by-page breakdown of events.

Interesting!

I really enjoy that Orochimaru still has some kind of impact on the current plot in Naruto. There has been so many references to him that I now have some small amount of hope that Kabuto will unseal him during his battle with Itachi. The faster Tobi gets replaced as a main villian the better. I also got to say that it is somewhat disappointing that Zetsu, the longest living Akatsuki member, is already half dead without Kishi revealing any of his background story. He better not kill off the black half in the same way as the white half.
