Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

The guy had Brock-eyes, it was clear from the start.

Since when has Brock ever shown himself to be anything other than entirely trustworthy?
Let's ignore the fact that he immediately tries to impregnate any woman he encounters.

Etsuko Yakushimaru isn't an off-key singer, though. She may be barely whispering when she sings, but she's not off-key.

The Nornir OP for Penguindrum was certainly my favourite of the year. It was intriguingly storyboarded, nicely animated, the song itself is both interesting and also relevant to the show... all round good stuff.

I agree with you on this. Plus, when she sings the really fast and upbeat pieces they're just really nicely composed. I bought the singles for the show, and I just enjoy the composition of Nonir. There's variation with every chorus and verse, but it's only audible if you reaaaallly pay attention.

Paprika may be Kon's weakest effort but it is definitely much better than the incompetent mess that Inception is. So I can safely say, Paprika > Inception.

Instead of being an incompetent mess, Paprika is an incoherent mess instead. It's like the Special Olympics!

At least Inception didn't have
some disgusting fat guy getting a beautiful girlfriend.

Also, that VLC thread surprises me. I did not realize so many people still used that crappy player.

Sket Dance 45

Both segments were great.
Chuuma and Onee-san make a good couple.

Next week should be great. Really hope Bossun's back story lives up to Switch's.

Yeah, I think that people often use "incoherent" when they often mean "stupid." Big words look cooler I guess, but those two words mean different things.

No, I actually find several plot elements in Paprika incoherent. Based on the set of internal rules for how the sci-fi in the movie is supposed to work, as set by the show itself, a lot of the later plot developments don't really make sense. They're designed for spectacle instead of logic, and the movie doesn't seem to care about that. That is definitely a flaw in a show that actually tries to explain things early on to set rules and expectations on the fantasy elements.

LAGRANGE: Episode 05

The start of this episode... the cuteness meters are off the charts! ACK! Thoraxes warned me, but it was too late!
Really liked this shot. Anime needs more crazy widescreen moments. And Lan is apparently immune to bed-head.
She really is an alien!

Muginami sucking up by making breakfast... Just walk out, Lan. Don't waste your time on this terrible character! Oh, also, time passed. Glad the show let me know, since there was seriously no other way in this episode I would have known. Maybe if Muginami had like, I don't know, maybe gotten that uniform they mentioned earlier! Is she just going to keep running around school with her boobs flopping everywhere? What the heck, school!? What happened with the teacher getting so mad at Madoka in episode 1 for wearing her swimsuit!

At least, Lan still has her guard up. Well, when she isn't playing baseball like a pro. I was seriously hoping she would nail the ball and surprise us all, haha.

Oh look, it's the guy who has the name of the character mentioned at the start of the episode. Had to look up his name, but it was
Villagiulio
. That's way too hard to remember, so I'm just going to call him "Village."
I honestly thought they were about to pull a "we're brothers!" thing, because I had been thinking they looked a lot alike. Also, what the heck kind of jacket is that to fight over? That thing is freaking repulsive! If only the uncle hadn't made it completely apparent with his dumb "whoops, bit my tongue." What the heck, dude, quit looking up the skirts of a teenager. Then again, it's almost impossible not to, considering every skirt in this show is barely long enough to even count as a skirt.

Hooray, the Jersey Club has its own room! No time for that, though, Lan has to confront Muginami about just what the heck's going on. How did she get her memoria anyways?
...
...
...
Okay, then.
I will never ask questions about this show ever again.

I wish we got this side of Muginami more often. It's at least tolerable. : |

Uh-oh. Everyone's in the same space together. Tensions are riding high! That jacket is still ugly! Oh, we're just going to talk it out. Okay. Pretty boring, and felt like it hit the repeat button for a second there in the conversation.
Then, things started getting serious, but there was a silver lining!
YES, VILLAGE, CRUSH HER HEAD LIKE AN OVERRIPE TOMATO! DO IT! BWAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Let me guess, Village's whole
temper-tantrum
was a contrivance for
"oh, Muginami likes her friends, she needs a reason to be with them now." Well, and also a little being angry about the Vox thing
, but I'm leaning more towards contrivance.

Well, only one more episode until I've caught up with the stuff on hulu. : (
What episode is this currently at in Japan? I tried wikipedia, but they only listed up until 4 or 5.

edit: I'm beginning to think I might take too many screenshots when I watch things.

First off, I did warn you. You seem to still be breathing though, so that's good!

Also, you can just call him Space Tiger/Kotestu.

Instead it has that
Call of Duty snow level
and tons of visually incoherent action scenes. Nolan seal of quality.

I'm surprised that we're actually having this discussion for real, again.

[Angel's Egg]

I haven't actually watched this film all the way through for five years.

It's pretty good. I'm liked the part with the bendy shadow fence and that one really long take. Oshii be owning fools left and right with his mad director skills.

In his version of Millennium Actress, the Chiyoko analogue will be a young cokehead starlet who keeps coincidentally missing her true love because of the crippling effects of her drug addiction.

Yes, but the real question is will she have an obsession which ends up destroying her completely?

Resealable wrap is disposable? I don't know what to believe anymore.
Pizzaroll, I need your guidance!

That is one SLICK looking package there. Very nice pickup.

Haibane Renmei - FINISH

Never thought I would become so strongly attached to the characters in the way that I did at its conclusion

Loved the characters, art and music a lot. I will probably always want more information, in terms of understanding the world and the purpose of the Haibane's existence, but since the focus was always on the characters I can deal with it.

I highly recommend checking it out. (I saw it in Jex's 2000-2010 anime recommendation thread so thanks for that)

I'd toss out resealable wrap without a second thought. I buy stuff to consume it, not to have it on the shelf to look pretty until I sell it later.

It's a sin to dispose of resealable wrap!

Your Wings of Honneamise box (which you bought only because I mentioned it wasn't $alot anymore!) will have pretty much the same packaging when you get it. :> Different arts on the box of course.

Why not consume it as well as have it look nice on the shelf?
