The way that
Folken gets killed
is so utterly contrived, random, and stupid. It's one of the worst possible endings you could actually write.
I just watched it and I don't even remember how it happens.

I thought it was funny that Dilandau just sort of rode off into the sunset with his posse. So random.

Martian Successor Nadesico - 1

mpc-hc2012-02-1711-417yd71.jpg

That is what I call a great firs episode. It had space invaders, space-battles and a fine mecha fight. The introduction of the characters was fast but so good with some nice comedy elements.

And now after watching the first episode of Nadesico. I'm absolutely sure Rinne no Lagrange has the same light hearted feeling like Nadesico.
Nadesico is good stuff, a lot less fanservice than Rinne no Lagrange from what I understand.

Uchip your performance in the dog thread is disappointing. I thought you were an equal-opportunity furry :(

Im not a furry
but it is interesting that having an avatar of a cute anthropomorphic character on the internet is worse than being gay in Virginia in terms of tolerance

Why? Now we can mind fuck them even more by posting about this stuff when they finish!

As someone who didn't play the game, I found the first few episodes to be pretty awful. The show isn't good, so all the fanservice really won't appeal to anyone other than those who played the game. It's basically just a super lazy game adaption, so its probably not a good idea to spoil the story for yourself with what is presumably a much inferior experience compared to playing the actual game.

Agreed. Find a way to play the game if you can. The anime isn't good and greatly rushed in story for much besides filling fanservice holes for those that have completed the game.

More people should catch up on real classics like Nadesico. Silly, great fun.

Hunter x Hunter 16-19

Man, it's getting interesting now. Great episodes. There really hasn't been a bad episode so far.

I only watched the first two episodes, but they were terrible. Have you even watched the first series?

Eiken

At first I was able to laugh at how bad it was. Then it just became unbearable. By the end of the first episode I was beaten. I'm sorry for doubting how painful something this short could be. It's terrible in so many ways that there's wouldn't be much point in listing them.

My doubts are cleared...this place is a masochist den.

"I knew you'd like 'em. How d'ya like 'em? Do you like touching them?"

I rather have the impression that Nadesico is no longer an "essential" anime in the same way it seemed to be in the late 90s/early 00s. Much like shows like Ranma which were once required viewing for any anime fan, it's fallen out of recognition.

Animage's top anime ranking for 1998 placed it at third, above Utena, Princess Mononoke and Kenshin in terms of popularity. But Nadesico and Battle Athletes are hardly the titles they once were.

...Just No! how on earth was the first two eps terrible? the new remake is not as good as the old one but in no way where the first two eps bad, hell the second ep was excellent.

Welcome to a classic. One of the most underrated 90s series by far.

Wish they did a followup to S1 someday.

Guilty Crown 17

Despite the major developments in the episode, I find it hard to feel anything for the characters...
I mean Shu getting obviously what was coming for him and Arisa breaking down like that... meh. On another note I never noticed that Shu's power was on his right hand or was there ever a time he drew a void with his left hand?lol

School Days becomes a work of art once you learn SPOILERS FOR PRETTY MUCH EVERY OVERFLOW GAME BELOW:

most of the girls he was nailing were half sisters or cousins.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

WHY? WHYYYYYY!????

Haha Yeah I was looking for that image and stumbled upon the whole thing.

Sorry to tell you this about Makoto in one of the games, but
he fucks Kotonoha's imouto twice. The first time is semi-rape, the second time is consensual, but Kotonoha hits him over the head with a shovel when she stumbles upon them in the act.

So the final list:

Arjuna
School Days
Blood-C
Eiken
Garzey's Wing (dub)
Black Lion (dub)

I'm both excited and horrified. This could potentially break me :(

Don't forget to add Utena! (not a troll recommendation)

The similarity with with Utena and those shows is that it fucks with your mind. (but in a good way!)

The generation chart posted here explains a lot regarding why the School Days anime is how it is. Interesting.

Yeah, Makoto's got
sexual deviance
in the blood.

Still, it's the best harem show ever. It doesn't matter how fucked up the games can be, the show is the REAL awesome.

Can we please never talk about anything 0verflow has done ever again.

Now, where was I...

Trapeze 7 aka Kuuchuu Buranko

This may be the best episode yet. Or that could be my love of over-the-top Yakuza stuff talking. I love the way it opened, and I liked the way the episode integrated flashbacks into the storytelling.

I really like the relationship dynamic between Seiji and his wife. It's a lot more nuanced than you'd think, and it makes Seiji, who'd otherwise be almost a caricature, seem really human.

Woah, breaking through the Earth's main linie was pretty awesome with nice mecha fights as final.

Jooeeeeeeee!

AnimeGAF got me on Utena before I was ever even a member. My life was never the same afterward.

BRS 3

Terribad. the OVA was ok but this is just painful to watch.

Dennou Coil 12

This had been an ok series till this point, harmless fun.
This episode was really really odd though. And awesome. Here's hoping the weirdness continues.

Martian Successor Nadesico - 4
mpc-hc2012-02-1718-37lwdmi.jpg

- dealing with the death of his comrade
- 3 new pilots (hot)
- mecha fight
- the start of a romance subplot

And all this in 20 minutes. Insane and fantastic at the same time!

I watched Brain Powered. It wasn't that bad; pretty stupid much of the time, but not on the level of the psychological torture anime you lot love inflicting on newbies so much.

I'm tired of watching trash anime for the sake of watching trash anime

School Days isn't just your average trashy anime though. I mean, seriously, it's kind of the nadir of the whole harem genre and for that reason I'd consider it a legitimately important work.

I would still say it's not worth watching, unless you hate yourself.

Emphasis on harem genre, maybe the worst in existence.

Undoubtedly. Yet, at the same time, it's influence spreads far and wide, infecting works from other genres left and right. School Days is important is taking such a thing to it's er, logical, conclusion!

Nope. They never explained really the king power.
I don't want to watch the first episode again, but I think the symbol appears on his right hand. Still I was surprised. At the end The real king power isn't only in the hand. It's in his heart or whatever and he is going to kill Gai-V2, save Japan and die as a martyr. Everyone will cry because they betrayed Shu. etc.

Only 5 episodes left and I can say "I survived Guilty Crown 11/12"

School Days is the Evangelion of Harem Anime.

We need to have an Evangelion established for every genre. So far, I think it's generally agreed upon that:

Evangelion = Evangelion of mecha
Utena = Evangelion of Shoujo
Madoka = Evangelion of Mahou Shoujo

and now School Days = Evangelion of Harem. For starters, here are some other genres that need their Evangelions defined:

Comedy
Fantasy
Horror
Moe
Shounen
Slice of Life
Space Opera
Sports
Yaoi

Higurashi is moe, right?
