Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

Versus XIII will be a launch title for Wii U.

You heard it first here.

No chance if the Wii-U is still launching Fall-Winter 2012.

However, I've been thinking if they do rename it to FFXV then the chances of it appearing on more platforms will increase since mainline titles aren't exclusives any more.

Rather than simply releasing it on 360, a better strategy might be to make it an early title for the Nextbox and Wii-U.

This might be a better strategy since they're still reaching the core FF fanbase which is on the PS3 and they have the potential to make it the stand-out title for those consoles. (minus CoD which will obviously be there within year 1).

Hypothetically, it should also be easier to port the game up to more powerful hardware if the structure is similar.

Maybe it's taking so long because they've scrapped everything we've seen so far and rebuilt it for the PS1.

If you ever make this real I will give you all of my money. srsly.

I have no money

Considering that I expect the story to be hilolious, there's no benefit to it being a movie for me. I want something to play while I ignore the story.

I wonder if this game is gonna turn out to be M-rated, in the last trailer there was blood and they keep making it out to be 'Mature de imaginatio terminalis'

Am I the only one who liked Advent Children?

I enjoyed & loved Advent Children as mindless fan-service. If I wait practically an entire console's generation for a robust game and get AC instead though, SE will be done as far as I'm concerned. Especially when pretty dissappointing titles have been dropped on us throughout the wait.

First of all, thank you for "hilolious." I actually lol-ed. Second, why would you expect the plot to be bad? I mean Kingdom Hearts' story is a convoluted mess but I wouldn't say it's laughably awful. At least, it's not in Star Ocean 4 territory. Also, it's not like FFXIII, XIII-2 or FFXII's story people are writing the plot. Right? (Please don't let me be wrong here.)

I enjoyed the stories for FFVI through FFX. If it's on par with those games' plots, then I'm good.

Well Nojima is writing the story so it could go either way.

He wrote VII and X which were in retrospect actually pretty good.

But he also wrote VIII.

So who knows.

*sigh*

It's just best for me to put Versus out of sight out of mind. Which is suprisingly easy considering they don't give us anything anyway.

I enjoyed AC Complete. The story made far more sense to the point where it was actually pretty good.

But I don't want movies from SE. I want games.

Oh boy. Fingers will be crossed then.

Toriyama has a hand in Versus. You might as well forget about the story.

Toriyama also did the whole Wall Market section in FFVII which was fantastic. I'm convinced that as long as someone's there to constantly bitchslap the stupid outta Toriyama and keep him in check, he can do good work.

I don't find shounen superhero stuff to be interesting at all. And ever since the first trailer for Versus, that's what I've seen. Noctis fighting 8000 dudes with guns while wielding 13 weapons, and then running up walls and all kinds of stuff like that. I just roll my eyes and ignore it. It's easy for me to get past if there's a solid game behind it, but it's unlikely to be something I'll actually be into.

Arguably, the only things holding FF13 back from being well-recieved were the storytelling and the linearity.

it's all Toriyama's fault
And the fact that it needed to expose more numbers to the player for its weapon growth system, a better drop rate, more battles like the late-postgame battles in the main game (other than the Bart battles) to keep me engaged, etc...

Yup.

Yeah, but a lot of FF games that were and are loved have problems on the same scale as those things that you've listed. They aren't really a big deal.

Ah, I guess I should explain myself... I'm in the minority who's not terribly fond of CSB, hence I really wished the battles in the main game were just as engaging as the ones in the late-postgame.

It's strange, but I ended up feeling rather indifferent towards FFXIII in comparison to the other games in the series, even though I'm the type who goes into RPGs lately for the battle/ability systems first and foremost. The bulk of FFXIII was battling, but I guess my indifference stems from my not caring for CSB at all... I actually think that's rather unfortunate even though I didn't go into the game with lofty expectations/hype. :/

Seriously? Toriyama should be forbidden from story telling forever. Third Birthday is terrible, and the comparisons that I've seen people draw between it and XIII-2 are almost enough to make me believe that game's story will be worthless in every way.

I always get a kick when I read his statement on Wikipedia: He believes his strength is in creating games that are very story-driven. If that's his strength, I would LOVE to know what his weakness is.

Toriyama's a hack. The sooner Square dumps his sorry kiester on the curb, the sooner we can start hoping that the games have at least semi-coherent plots.

Seriously speaking here, based on some stuff Nomura has said, the story actually sounds pretty interesting. I'm sure they'll find some way to ruin it though.

I'll spoiler just in case some people don't want to know anything about the game' story, but this is stuff Nomura has stated in interviews about the game.

The concept of the world in Versus sounds interesting. Nomura has said that the technological world we see is only one small part of the world the main characters are from. The rest of the world is much less advanced, perhaps medieval. That's an interesting setting, and should be interesting to explore the world and find out how and why the rest of the world is stuck in time, while the main characters are from an advanced society.

Me either.

I never found XIII's battle system particularly engaging.

How on earth do they rationalize the Versus name to investors? They're a publicly traded company, aren't they?

Versus sounds really tame compared to the other stuff this company puts out. KH 358/2 and Dissidia Duodecim prologus 01243whatever

Me either.

I thought the same too... I miss having summons performing an ultimate move from the old school Final Fantasy's. I also miss having crazy looking attacks.

Spells like ruin / ruinga etc are so plain & boring. One thing I do like, is how fast paced it is, even for turn based though.

That is EXACTLY what Toriyama does need.

Many of the ideas in XIII and XIII-2 are fascinating and could have been excellent if done well...Toriyama needs someone controlling him rather than him controlling the direction of stuff.

This game is dead.

It'll be renamed FF Mega Crystal Chronicles and will be a downloadable only title that is 5 hours long, 80% CG cut scenes, and will be one straight corridor.

Muahahahahah
MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAAHAHAHA

Srsly though they can drop it at this point if it means I could get a The World Ends With You 2, Nier 2, or Last Remnant 2.

What's wrong with the name?

It has 13 In the title. After 13-2, a name people not already plugged into the Matrix don't even begin to understand, and the inevitable 13-3, Versus 13 just starts becoming more and more ABSURD.

Not when you think of what Versus means. Then it all makes so much sense.

The whole "civilization more advanced than the rest" has been done a lot before though. And it probably has something to do with the crystals anyway.

It does have to do with the crystals.

The destruction of everyone else's crystals also has lead to the land dying, so that might come into play as well/

If the conflict destroys the very last crystal, shit could get real.
