Every time I wake the Vita after charging it completely from near-depletion, I freak out when I see that the battery indicator is still at red/low, only for it to change to full in about a second. I'm never gonna get used to it, lol.

Oh man, I can imagine one day forgetting to turn the power on at the wall, wake up in the morning and seeing it's orange, waiting for it to turn green and it doesn't. Haha. :^/

Considering the price to size ratios of current models, and companies moving onto different tech (ie Sony to Crystal LED, I know it's a prototype) and the speed at which OLED is moving into the market it just seems like its "dead in the water", LG and Samsung haven't even announced prices on their 55" OLED which is currently the max size nor have they announced any release date.

Huh, I thought it had more steam than that.

I think OLED is just too expensive to be put in big screens. That's why it only really gets used on 5 inch screens and less. Phones will be what really increases OLED adoption more than anything, but small phone sizes probably won't be enough to make OLED screens in general cheaper especially for larger screens.

Last year was the year that OLED really picked up steam in mainstream consumer devices, and this year is when it will move beyond portables. That's after half a decade of sluggish growth. It a strange time to say that it's not taking off.

It's probably the best overall display technology of all time, so I really can't see that happening.

Still, I can't believe how amazing this OS at launch!

This dude is definitely impressed with the OS. He seems to think Sony will use the Vita OS to go all by themselves in the mobile space a la amazon and apple. The problem is he's talking about Sony and they move slow as hell. Another problem is giving up the android market place and its thousands of apps. I don't think it'll happen, and if it does, I still expect Sony to have Windows and Android tablets, phones, and PCs available next to their own OS. Either way, best of luck to them.

What's the max amount of people you can have on your friends list? I'm up to 50 and it won't let me send any more friend requests... I thought it was atleast 100?

I think Sony should increase the friend limit to 200 or 250 for the PS+ master race.

Also, what does this mean?

On the backside of the Vita's wireless card, iFixit found a Qualcomm MDM6200 module, which supports HSPA+ speeds up to 14.4 Mbps. Despite this discovery, the Vita only supports regular HSPA on AT&T's 3G network, which is theoretically half as fast. (In Japan, the Vita supports HSPA+ speeds.) In my own speed tests, I confirmed that the Vita is slower than my HSPA+ Samsung Galaxy S II.

Does it mean that if it AT&T made it so that their network supported HSPA+ speeds then maybe 3G online gaming would be feasible? Then maybe, if Vita goes to other carriers like Sprint then you would get HSPA+ speeds and game online over their HSPA+ network? 14.4Mbps doesn't sound too bad and actually sounds pretty playable.

Anyone on the East Coast of the US getting it unusually late? My friend's amazon estimate is Feb. 27th and mine is Feb. 22nd. He lives in VA, is it because he's so far east?

What's with the lack of 16GB cards, Amazon? I'm only seeing third party sellers, and they are selling it at least $10 above msrp. I'll probably buy one from Newegg, but I like to buy all my stuff from one place in one go.

I expect Dungeon Hunter to drop in price really really quickly as most Ubisoft games do.

even though it was 2480 yen here - it's already been cut to as low as 1680 yen in some places.

It's definitely worth it for that relative price in Japan - especially if you play it multiplayer (online multiplayer support at that)

On the TV side I still say Sony (and Microsoft) would be smart to have their next gen consoles be always on HDMI pass-through devices. That way the OS is always a part of your television experience. cable cutters already use the consoles as their media hubs and the vast majority of people who still have cable would buy stuff (and play games) much more often from the stores if it was always a button press away. There are probably too many issues with figuring out remotes, cable/satellite UI confusion for the gaming division to deal with alone. However, if Sony is going to sell movies, and put apps on these devices they need to get every division working together to make it work. I just don't buy everyone dropping cable and using their NextBox as the single TV box. Especially the audiance Microsoft seems to want with the Kinect. It's my dream that will probably never happen. Apple TV or Roku will do it before the consoles get the chance.

What the fuck?! You're right, I just checked PSN and Retributiom isn't available for purchase! I really was planning in buying that! Damn it SCEA!

I'm hoping this is just transition fuck up or something. there shouldn't be any license problem since it's Sony's own game, and you can actually buy both Syphon Filter games as part of a bundle. hopefully they fix it by next week.

I'm liking the near system, I've found two new games, both imports, some japanese dating sim called "Dream Club Zero", which I've never heard of and someone using the nico video app i think. On launch I found 22 people near me and today there is 56.

I had the same problem with the 32gb card. All the gamestops were sold out or only had the ones for pre orders left. I called one away from my home and they had 1 left. Maybe under shipped?

PS Nation have been talking alot about the Vita recently and they're very positive about it.

My Amazon UK order has changed to "Dispatching Soon". Hope that changes to Dispatched some time today..

DD for the win, right?
Well, certainly not for PSP.

Regular 3G speed is fine for gaming.
It's latency that's the issue, not speed.

I notice I get the H symbol when I'm using my Vita on AT&T's network.
I can already tell I'll never use 3G service on this thing after this 1 paid month.

Amazon is sold out at the moment.

Same here.

Hope its here by release. But play have gone abit downhill since they were bought out.
ordered a game with express delivery (next day)

Took 3 days.

Not impressed. They had the best deal this time though so can afford to wait an extra day if it isnt here on time.

I'm not so sure about that.

From the Wikipedia article on OLED:

"In January 2011, Sony announced the PlayStation Vita handheld game console (the successor to the PSP) will feature a 5-inch OLED screen."

"On January 07, 2012 Sony announced they will abandon OLED development for the mass market and instead settle on adopting "Crystal LED" as an alternative."

OLED technology also appears to have quite a few kinks that have yet to be worked out.

However, I will agree that OLED screens looks phenomenal in action.

Didn't Samsung just spin off their LCD business to focus on OLED? At CES this year companies were showing the first large OLED HDTVs (55 inches). They started to become very common in mobile devices last year, but there were technical barriers to scaling them up for TVs. Breakthroughs have changed that.

I'll believe it when I can walk into a store and see an OLED TV at a price that the average person can afford. Of course, that's not to say that it won't happen, but rather, that I'm not entirely convinced that the OLED is ready for prime time just yet. I highlighted the Sony example because it's interesting to see a company suddenly step back from a technology that is to be used in one of their premier devices.

Your right that breakthroughs have occurred, but only 1 set will be launched this year by Samsung and it will not be priced to buy. I still expect at another two years before you can go out and pick a large OLED screen up from a retailer.

22nd feels so far way.....

OLEDs definitely looks amazing and Crystal LEDs TVs look pretty cool too.

Lots of companies seem to be doing a lot of display tech research. Will be interesting to see what eventually becomes the standards

Kaz said not so long ago, that they're going to invest in OLED again. So Sony is stepping from their backstep.

For games that use the d-pad as the primary controller, developers are going to need to start including "turn analog control off" as an option because the analog is really waaaaay too close to the d-pad and it's super easy to accidentally touch it while moving around the d-pad.

Never done that.

However I happened to hit the stand-by button while things got wild on UMVC3.

Maybe i've missed it, but is there any talk about how Ad Hoc Party is compatible on Vita?
For example, is MH:FU playable online with either ad-hoc party on PS3, or maybe a Vita built-in solution ?

The D-Pad is great for UMvC3. I can pull off all the motions just fine after about 20 minutes with it.

The buttons, on the other hand, are a different matter. Specifically, trying to hold Square for Vergil's Round Trip or Zero's Buster, while pressing Triangle and Circle is much more difficult than just doing it on an arcade stick. Trying to hit both Square and Circle after a combo with Taskmaster to finish with angled Legion Arrows is even more difficult, with how small the buttons are. I'm no fighting game expert but these are moves I can easily do on an arcade stick, and will take time figuring out and getting used to on the Vita.

It's the Hori TPU Protector Cover.

dunno if this has been answered, apologies if it has, but can you pair a dual shock 3 to the vita? i have one in a joystick already.

Adhoc Party is supposedly compatible with Vita for PSP games. So you can play MHFU online.

I have the same problem. Maybe my thumbs are just too big :(

The X button is too close to the R stick too. I often accidentally hit the R stick in Wipeout while pressing X.

I just submitted the price of the VIP case from Zavvi to Amazon. Lets see if they change theirs :D

New game for launch day too!

A-Men is a new launch title for the Vita. Previously known as something else (can't remember).

True gaming is reborn on the PlayStation Vita with the launch of A-Men, a riddle within a retro game that will satisfy your cravings for tactical play. With more than a hint of the old school style of logic, platforms and creatures, we think our new, highly addictive title is an unexpected launch in a market dominated by pump-action big titles. Created by Bloober Team and honourably inspired by retro-cult classics Lemmings and Lost Vikings, the game gives you control of up to five army characters, each with their own personalities, skills and tools, whose mission is to round up their equally endearing enemies across a series of worlds and puzzles. Highly tactical and completely addictive, the game is immediately easy to play and yet, like many classic games, it is hard to truly master. You’ll definitely need a brain for this one, folks.

It was known as Assault Armies in Japan, and was published by Kemco exclusively on PSN.

I'm becoming a freaking encyclopedia.

This thing is taking over my life. D: Although I still think it's fucking stupid not allowing USB charging without shutting the device off.

Ordered me a Vita Wifi system on amazon last night.
will buy a game on psn and memory card at a local store, can`t wait to put my hands on it.

an reccomendations for a good cover prtector??
I was thinking of getting the PDP Trigger Grips, is it more comfrtabel playing with it?

Yes, probably - but might depend on the plan. In Japan, the main data plans from DoCoMo don't include HSPA+. only the most expensive monthly plan includes that.

As a casual Tekken player I map square+circle to L1 and cross+triangle to R1 on PSP. No way I could hit those buttons at the same time consistently, not even on a controller. If I can't map inputs to the shoulder buttons I might as well not play a fighter.

I look forward to Vita's dpad, the PSP one is so bad.

Two more days!

I look forward to Vita's dpad, the PSP one is so bad.
Which PSP? Because the 2000 and especially 3000 actually have pretty good D-pads, but the PSP-1000's was trash. Doubly worse because the analog nub was also uncomfortable as hell, so it wasn't like the 360 or GC where a less-than-ideal D-Pad is balanced out by amazing analog.

I'm in doubt if I should buy Rayman for PS3 or Vita. The PS3 version is almost half the price of the Vita version, but being able to play the game everywhere I want sounds like a nice feature. I'm leaning towards the Vita version and maybe getting the PS3 version later at a lower price.
