Live would either be Thierry Henry the first-last time he played at the SoL, tortured us and got a standing ovation, or Cristiano Ronaldo who topped a great performance off with one of his freekicks and similarly got applauded off by the stadium. For a Sunderland player, Lorik Cana in the infamous beach ball game. He ended up getting put to centre half coz of injuries and what not but he was immense. Won us that game single-handedly. Any time the ball got within 18 yards of the goal, he was there diving in, getting blocks in, last ditch clearances etc. Superb.

I put it to you Sir, that a beach ball won you that game single-handedly.

Makes me sad just watching that. I love Ronaldinho, I wish he was still in his prime in barca.

That Barca team was the most enjoyable to watch. Ronaldihno/Eto were godly. Here's an old commercial with 'dihno in it. I practiced the move he does at 1:19 so much and I still suck at it

As for current Barca, I find their tici-taca playstyle quite boring to watch. The only entertaining stuff are Messi's flashes of brilliance. That's why I enjoy Sunhi's gifs, he captures all of them in a 10 second long gif :)

I agree; there's no doubting they're a better team now, but the speed of their attacks when Messi and Ronaldinho flanked Eto'o was incredible.

Given McEachran is only 16 or thereabouts i would not say he was on the verge of breaking through a few years ago; indeed the fact that he is on loan and to a premier league team is a testament to his potential. You'd be better off using Kakuta as an example.

He's 19 in a week or two/ too much FM.

About pay, here is last years top earners, including sponsorships:

The 10 highest-earning footballers

1) Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - £26.9 million

2) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - £23.9m

3) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - £18m

4) Kaka (Real Madrid) - £16.7m

5) David Beckham (LA Galaxy) - £16.5m

6) Ronaldinho (Flamengo) - £15.9m
*Facepalm*

7) Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) - £13.4

8) Frank Lampard (Chelsea) - £12.3m

9) Yaya Toure (Manchester City) - £11.9m

10) Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls) - £11.5m - Just because of the legend status?

Xavi and Iniesta dont even earn half as much as Messi???

Doubt they sell anywhere near as many shirts as Messi. If you buy a Barca shirt, you buy Messi. They also aren't in many commercials, unlike Henry and Messi who has Gilette etc.

Don't understand why Ibra isn't there though. He makes around €10m a year alone on salaries, and then you have Nike sponsorship etc. Guess he must be right below Henry.

Am I crazy or does anyone think Stewart Downing and Hasebe Makoto are the long lost cousins from a sexy wartime relationship in Japan?

My god, they're like.. identical to me.

I don't see anyone hinting at that, other than whoever wrote that article.

From the article:

David Sullivan said to the West Ham Till I Die blog: "We tried to get Torres from Chelsea.

"Well if he couldn't score in the Premier League, come along with us for a month. We might fire him up! They just said 'not at this moment in time'."

Co-owner David Gold later confirmed on Twitter: "We tried to bring him in on a short-term loan."

Sorry but I don't see it.

"not at this moment in time" just seems like an automated response.

Just like when you don't get the job "unfortunately at this moment in time we do not require your services"

I read a few months back, maybe on Barca's twitter that 85% of shirts sold in the FCB Megastore were printed with Messi. The first jersey each season I buy has Messi on it. Then I get a few others, Pedro and Thiago are this seasons picks for the new kits.

:lol at Wayne Rooney's posistion on that list. I wonder how much of that is down to him 'questioning the ambition' of United?
Alot of it is down to incredible sponsorship deals he has. Marketing wise he's rated as one of the top 5 footballers in the world and apparently he gets about £7 a year in image rights which is outside of his wages because for example he is comfortably the highest shirt seller in the country.

Been in FIFA commercials for the last 3 years I think also.

United's second quarter financial results came out this morning. The club has bought back more of the debt. It now owns £92m of the £500m bond issue of a couple of years ago. I guess that's where the Ronaldo money went. What's worse is it's being bought back at a higher cost.

Just crazy that in 2 years we've spent almost £100m on buying back debt. Imagine what we could have done with that money if it was available for transfers.

Also, strange that we've bought back so much debt at a higher cost so quickly. Obviously wasn't the clubs original plan of action which is worrying.

David Wier returning to Everton as a reserve manager/coach, sounds intresting and delightful.

Any Liverpool-Gaf following the mini derby that is going to start in 2 hours time?

At this rate it will take us 8 more yrs to get rid of the debt???? :o

Makes sense. Did you buy an Ibra one?

Man City have a fantastic injury record this season. I guess they can afford the best medical staff and facilities with all that cash. I can't remember the last time they had to cough up a makeshift XI the way United, Spurs and Arsenal have had to this season.

More good Spurs injury news:

Emmanuel Adebayor @Sheyiadebayor
Just finished training, really happy with the progress, knee is looking much better. Working on my fitness for Sunday

Looks like the best XI could enter the field on Sunday.

The debt markets are significantly worse now than when the bond was issued, it makes sense to buy back the debt. Man United net debt is about £430m. If the Glazers float the company at the end of this year then it could raise up to £700m which will clear the debt and then some.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that Ronaldo and not Ronaldinho?

The trick he pointed to is Ronaldinho

Oh, right. I didn't watch the whole thing. Thought it was all Ronaldo and Figo.

Speaking of Rivaldo and the old Barca, we beat them 3-2 at St. James' Park. Who is your god now Barca fans?

edit: well obviously your god now is Messi.
