Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

Shouldn't everyone just agree that the only reason people watch Rinne is because of "wan" and pseudo-yuri?
When you have a show like Rinne or Evol, it's a combination of things including the fanservice. It's why Horizon was so appealing.

First of all, I really don't see how the premise of a show can detract from the overall quality of the aesthetics and secondly
are you saying that an alien with tits and a cute secret nudist is a bad thing????!!
You're more likely to enjoy the experience first than you would notice the aesthetics beforehand.

I can enjoy "service" up to a certain point, but when it gets too extreme, as you put it, it becomes a problem. Madoka's "maru" is a similar quirk to Lan's, but it seems to spring more naturally from her personality. Madoka is so energetic, optimistic, and excited about what she does that she can't help but express that in some forceful way. I don't see a similar connection between Lan's cold and detached nature and "wan".

What I'm trying to say is, it's possible to be light-hearted without having naked parties in the ocean.
It's more because there's no reason given for it honestly. You could argue the reason still wouldn't justify it, but it sticks out sorely because it's lazy pandering unlike the quick backstory we get for Madoka's maru in Episode 1.

I just feel like the show has been made for a very specific audience anyway. Consciously so - even the crass way in which Muginami has been made sympathetic in the recent episode.
It is. Not sure what's your point though.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 05

The subs on the Rightstuf DVDs spell her name as "Jury" instead of "Juri." It's a little weird.

This combination of caged bird symbolism and child piano prodigies was echoed pretty strongly by Tabuki's backstory in Penguindrum.

Miki decides that the whole Rose Bride thing is inhumane after he realizes he's in love with Anthy, when it should have been plainly obvious from the outset.

Oh, snap! Touga, there are rules about
sleeping with your friend's sister! And in the piano room, no less!
Not cool, man.

I think the sight of shirtless!Touga broke Miki's brain.

Getting distracted in the middle of a fight's a rookie move.

Touga learned from his teacher about the rules regarding who you sleep with, and that rule is that there are no rules.

Steins;Gate OVA

Okabe sure knows how to kill a good mood.

There's maido restaurants in Arizona. With a starbucks nearby, no less. I'm going to have high expectations if I ever take a vacation there, America.
I might have just misunderstood the situation, I think it might be something Okabe requested her to do

fffuuuu, what does
Meo Tojiro
mean?
Close your eyes?

I shouldn't have been as hyped as I was, but overall I found it enjoyable. Makes me realize how much I miss Steins;Gate. Need more MakiseOkabe in my veins...

It is expected of such a genki girl as Madoka to own a dog and take her outside, strolling around at the beach.
Of course trying to outrun each other. All the fun stuff.

It is really rare for anime protagonists to have pets. I can not think of any right now.

Edit: When I actually thought about it I remembered 1. 2. 3. and Esmeralda and Chuchu and Pen-Pen so the appropriate name for this dog here would be some Wan-Wan.

Perhaps the only genre i've not seen Japan tackle yet.
Yuri beastiality.

It has to be coming soon.

According to these images I found on the internet, it will be sooner than later at this rate.

Gunbuster - 2

gunbuster24qv24.gif

I envy all people who can watch Gunbuster for the first time.

Fantastic mechanical design and stuff like time dilation with all techical and social implications - so good. I'm not a big fan of NGE but it's fact that Anno is a great director.

It's crazy that I watch Gunbuster only because of Rinne no Lagrange (and Nadesico).

Chihayafuru 20

First class episode. One of the best in a while. Lots of impressive shots epscially the one with Taichi at the end. I Love how Chihaya
still orgasms when ever she sees Arata
. Can't wait for next week's episode.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 06

Watching Nanami freak out is always entertaining.

Not as funny as her taking a baseball to the face, I admit. And Utena gives no fucks; she should really be more apologetic than that.

I thought it was obvious even in the limited context Nanami and Utena heard that
Touga and Anthy were just talking about pest control.
Where's that "Jump to Conclusions" Mat image?

Awful lot of farm animals in this school.

Dat...shotacon?

Okay, she's using him as forced labor. That's better than pedophilia, maybe?

No one cares what the first boss has to say after he's been defeated, Saionji.

Whatever tenuous connection this show had with reality, at least outside the dueling arena, clearly went out the window once the kangaroo showed up.

Blood C 5

Bet that eyeball shaman didn't SEE that coming! Aheheh...he. Hmm, ghost stories, huh? That first one about the cliff made me scream "Mishima!" And, The resolution...the resolution?
Spit it out, girl!

Blood C 6
Damn, Nene got some of dat head munchin' action. Well, she did want something out-of-the-ordinary to happen. Careful what you wish for, etc.
SAYA

You are constant guardian disappointment.

Okay, Nono's twin name suspicion is bananas. Why can't Saya just say..."cuz your sister is missing?"

Nono part

MYxTW.gif

Geese Howard on a stick, there HAS to be a better way to censor violence. Hell, I think cutoffs are much less ugh. Then again,
that's a lot of cut-offs
Anyways, hot damn! Both twins killed off in the same episode! That's ONE way to get out of "explaining" yourself

Also, lol,I swore there were more people around than that? Magically, went
ghost town at the end, shadow killed like...4-5 people
It seems I am now really experiencing Blood C. Shit's hitting that fan.

Shows like Blood C kind of lose their impact if your heart is dead to begin with.

Comeaawn, she didn't need to do it every time she was taking a walk. Jus' kinda nagging.

Nice. Can't wait to watch this.

Also, we still have the film to look forward to! It's not going to be a tv-repackage.

Oh hey, Sword of the Stranger showed up on my doorstep today. Wasn't supposed to come in until Friday. Know next to nothing about it but I'm pretty excited to watch it. Is the dub okay?

So apparently RightStuf/Nozomi Entertainment are releasing a Boogiepop Phantom collection for the third time, for whatever reason. Anyone have a recommendation for/against this series?

It's all right. It's a side-story to the Boogiepop novels, but there's a few aspects of it that'll probably remain a little muddy for those who haven't read the first book of the series (certainly, having seen the anime first, Phantom was rendered clearer for myself having read the book later).

Fans of the books tend to be down on it a little for eschewing the somewhat pulpier tone of the original work in favour of a something more of a J-Horror flavour, the series having hit around the time when the likes of Ring were popular, though it did borrow a few structural gimmicks from the book. I think it pulls it off adequately for the most part, and it's highly effective in being creepy as hellin a few episodes, but in an attempt to pull off a certain mood they do go a little too far with some of their animation post-processing. The muted, often monotone colour palette is one thing, but they do a lot to soften the focus, or to add a glow to the affair. At best it's dreamlike, at worst it's excessively oppressive and just plain annoying.

But, hey, it's at least pretty different from most the stuff getting made. It's hard to argue against it when it's only $30.

Dennou Coil 23

nooooooooooooooo, they killed off Densuke. :( Why does Madhouse hate pets so much, first Fumie's pet died, Denpa's pet died, and now Densuke is gone.

It seems like the final arc will be rescuing Isako, poor Isako, she's so lonely. :( She's been trying to do everything possible to get her brother back, only to find out she was the one who put him there.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 07

The student council does things besides yammer about revolution and the Rose Bride? News to me.

Ah, the return of the Anthy-slap. Now with even less justification!

The council seems pretty cavalier about Touga's knife-throwing tricks. At least a round of applause is in order.

Fight was cool, ending was a bit of a cop-out. An inch or so the other way and Juri would have had a sword in her brain; once again these characters are too careless with ballistic edges.

Eureka Seven 1 - 8

I think I'm done here. Spineless underage worm meets hot (well, I'll take your word for it Renton) weird chick, plus some annoying war orphans or some shit and a lot of uninteresting, uninspired side characters. Completely unlikeable cast, terrible writing, bad direction - nice presentation though (Bones being Bones). But that alone is not enough to carry a show this long.

You are a good guy for dropping Eureka Seven.

Heartcatch Precure - 32

I can put my hand on my heart and say I never saw Hot Guy's true identity coming... unlike a certain Tuxedo Mask.

All these complaints about E7 just make me want to watch it, since I've heard from others it's a good show.

It has a good OST though. To be honest, the beginning isn't all that great. The last 1/2 or so of the show is completely fantastic though. The plot really picks up. The beginning is basically bullshit filler. Don't understand why they would do that but that's how it is. I didn't like it in the beginning (especially hated Renton) but everyone grew on me by the end. Its ending is very satisfying. Probably one of the most satisfying anime endings ever.

To be fair, you don't need exaggerate the negative qualities of the show such as the direction for example - which is objectively pretty good!

The writing and characterization is debatable.

People keep saying this. I keep shaking my head.

It's not, don't let anyone fool you. Watch School Days or Blood C instead.

Maybe. Tons of people dropped Horizon early as well, and that show really came around close to halfway through. Problem is: Horizon only had twelve episodes to begin with - Eureka Seven has 50.

How is... the direction objectively good? I've been noticing that 'objectivity' is being thrown around a lot lately in here, and it's not making any sense.

Maybe if the split cour rumors didn't become true, you'd have a point.

Yeah... no. Probably not even as good as Queen's Blade Rebellion. Objectively.

I'm strictly talking about the first season.

I felt the exact same way. I really hate protagonists with qualities like Renton.

I'm sorry you can't appreciate character or world building, which is what the first half of the show is all about.
