Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

Eureka 7, Bakemonogatari, and Baccano! are the best directed TV anime of the last decade. Maybe something from Yuasa (Tatami or Kemono or Kaiba) as well since he's an excellent director too.

Truth.

I like Bakemonogatari, but the direction is way too inconsistent between its various arcs for me to agree with that statement. Even if we just consider the past year, I wouldn't consider its direction as solid as Kaiji Season 2, let alone Wandering Son.

This is one of those episodes that takes on an entirely different perspective on a rewatch.

You have to rewatch this episode as soon as you finish the show.

Curiosity got the better of me as it's apt to do and I gave this a rewatch myself. You two weren't kidding.

In particular the diary conversation stood out to me. What I initially regarded to be submissive felt calculating and manipulative on Anthy's part.

is that batman: gotham knight thing worth checking out?

It's worth watching, I just can't really remember much of it.

-all 6 shorts tell an intriguing story, none of them being bad
-they look amazing with "In Darkness Dwells" and "dead shot" looking the best imo except for Field Test being the weakest.
-in 2 of them they turned batman into a girly animu bish

overall it's ok, worthing watching but nothing great

go watch Batman: Under the Red Hood if your looking for newish batman movie.

Eureka Seven 2

And so it goes from a very good episode to an absolutely terrible one. Apparently
the word EUREKA has the power to unleash the second impact, if you believe in it. what the fuck.

Not only that, but Holland and his crew
spend half the episode trying to kill Eureka, and then suddenly they're calling her "princess" and are being best friends. Renton has turned from an average young teenager into Death, the Destroyer of Worlds who has no qualms at killing a number of soldiers in the other mechs.
The Grandpa was the only redeeming feature in this episode.

Is it even possible for a three year old to have so much hair?

I asked the same question! I KNEW I wasn't crazy! ^^;

Speaking of...

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai 01-05

... well it's definitely got it's creepy moments, but it's not QUITE as creepy as I thought it would be. I've seen worse, but that doesn't excuse it's stupid shit (panty-shooting a 10 year old in the first episode? Really?) I'm going to list this one under "Will continue to watch cautiously, but will drop like a bad habit if it goes too far..."

Some random thoughts:

- Show would be a million times better without the stupid fanservice.
- Hina, however, is adorable.
- Sora so wants to be Haruhi in design it's not even funny.
- Raika... I said DAAAYYYYUMMMM!
- *ugh* They keep trying to make the 10 year old the flirty one. That's just wrong on a million levels so I'm going to do my best to completely ignore her character. *puts on ignore list*
- However I do like that the MC obviously isn't attracted to them
yet
. He's got his sights on the woman who is around his age, and is clearly NOT a loli (Raika... daaaayyyyuuuumm!)
- Show, you need to pic a tone. You're either a fairly serious drama telling the story of a young man taking on a huge responsibility of raising three virtual strangers, or you need to be a completely stupid comedy.
- The Otaku blob strikes me as a parody of the modern otaku culture. The show is deliberately making fun of his obsessive lolicon tendencies. I'd like to think the writers are trying to send a not-so-subtle message to it's audience, as if to say "Hey you! Yes you! See that disgusting waste of a man? That's YOU! You don't want to be that guy, do you? Wouldn't you rather be the earnest, hardworking MC who only seems to be smitten with the woman who's actually around HIS age?" but that's probably giving the writers too much credit, me seeing what I want to see, or both.
- I like the neighbor seiyuu lady. She's adorable.

When did that happen?

ummm.... that was what the whole second episode was about.
Holland and his crew shoot missiles at renton's house, it blows up, Eureka takes to the skies, gramps give renton the special part, renton flies up on his hoverboard, Holland sees/recognizes him, renton falls, get's picked up by Eureka, holland&co fire missile swarm, second impact hits. and then, Holland suddenly takes care of them after they crashed, and offers renton a position with him. it made no sense whatsoever.

...?
The military blows his house up.

Gekko State is the rebels, ie Holland, Eureka and the rest. The military, the guys in the giant black ships and the blue mechs, are the bad guys.

So did Reika ever reappear in PapaKiki or was that just a first-episode troll before the show ditched her for the lolis?

Well, if the source material is any indication, she'll make it in at the end of the season.

She won't have a major role though this season, but she does later.

He's like, a rebel, man.

Gekko State is independent from the military.

I was pretty sure that the Military calls themselves Gekko State at one point. I guess I just misunderstood some of it then. I feel a bit silly now. :(

my point about Renton going berserk and killing the soldiers still stands though!

Of course not. But I mean, in the off chance that the 4th season of Zero no Tsukaima or Highschool DxD, or even Symphogear is better, Ill gladly take back what I said.
If all new shows from this season are eligible, then no, it won't be better than Nise even if you hate Shaft anime. If it's only compared to what you've listed, it can only be better than DxD, and it might be better than Symphogear.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this condition. Everyone used to make fun of my starfish nipples, but not anymore!

Haha, I had no idea they were still making the queen's blade stuff.
I couldn't tell you if it was more popular than Ikkitousen.

I will watch Crimson Wolf for you ABF
Nice to see someone will.

There's a really cool sequence at the end where they fight a Chinese dragon.

I suppose it also teaches us about the healing powers of sex.

That's about it.
It does do both of those things, but I thought the plot about three Chinese rulers coming back to start a war between China and the West was not exactly the most typical thing...

Yeah, I'm one step ahead in terms of seeing Crimson Wolf, or rather, Hon Ran. It's extremely forgettable. So much so that I looked at the cover and forgot that I'd watched it.

Somewhat forgettable for the '90s perhaps, but they don't make stuff like that anymore.

Well I watch anime on request and he seemed pretty insistent.

I also want him to know that someone reads his posts. Even if that someone is unfortunately me.

Given the rarity of replies, I do wonder sometimes.

Or rather, Hong Lang.

(also, same writer as Riki-Ô, so...)
It's both, "Hong Lang" in the on screen text, and "Hong Ran" in the words the voice actors spoke. I don't know which is correct, anyone?

As for Riki-Oh, though, I haven't seen that. Is it worth watching? Apparently it's popular here, if it being the same writer gets some people to watch this, but I don't know anything about it beyond the name.

It better have someone choking another man to death with his own intestines.
I don't think it does, but there is a sort of Fist of the North Star-esque head explosion after being punched part, and a fair bit of blood.

Well at least you know now. Would have been rather weird watching the rest of the show being confused.

Are you watching it dubbed or subbed?

The love hina discussion a while back reminded me of this:

Akamatsu: Which is better, a manga that’s interesting, or a manga that sells? Do you think it’s no good if a boring manga starts selling?

Takekuma: Hmm, I’d have to say the interesting manga.

Akamatsu: So you’re fine if a manga doesn’t sell, as long as it’s interesting?

Takekuma: If you put it like that, then yes. But doesn’t everyone think that they want to sell something interesting?

Akamatsu: Hmm, I don’t really like that line of thought. Isn’t that being too much of a romanticist?
exhibit 2.4 on why akamatsu is a bad man who can't end things without indulging his fetish for abusive redheads

Another excellent episode, I was expecting a significant drop in quality from the previous episode, but that wasn't the case at all.
The sisters crying at the end got to me a lot more than I would have thought, the writing for this episode was really good.
Next episode, it's the return of
Tsubomi's yuri crush. Excellent.

Well at least you know now. Would have been rather weird watching the rest of the show being confused.

Are you watching it dubbed or subbed?

I'm using the subtitles. How good is the dub for this show?

That is also expanded upon later on.

That's good to hear.

other than renton for the first ~14 eps and the annoying kids i didn't have any issues with the overall quality of the dub.

two more to go yyyeeessssssssssssssssssssssssss

It's both, "Hong Lang" in the on screen text, and "Hong Ran" in the words the voice actors spoke.
It's "Hong Lang" ("crimson wolf" in Chinese), pronounced "hon ran" in Japanese.
It would make little sense to spell the title as "Hon Ran", in Latin alphabet (that would be like typing "Shutainzu;Gêto", "Giruti Kuraun" or "Anazâ", for example).

Just looking back on the last two, I can't stop laughing...l-laughing!

Two more...two more...TWO MORE WHOLE EPISODES

Saya and Blood-C: Protecting sanity since 2011.

Remember how boring the first four episodes were? Don't you wish you could go back to when things were simple?

It'd be cool if you could have eye-poking minigames where you control Senjou and you torture Arararagi with various household items.
