Ah I understand. Then you're correct, this movie is not that at all. I take it the manga art is a big contributor to what you are talking about? I mean the storyline is pretty laughable, so I'm guessing its treated in a way that makes it more horrifying than funny.

It's more about tension and oppression and a world that's become hostile, than anything else. I'm not surprised that it didn't translate to an anime but it sounds like they didn't even try to recreate the original feeling.

Ito's work usually has a sly humor to it, but from what I've seen of Gyo, well, lol.

Eureka 7, Bakemonogatari, and Baccano! are the best directed TV anime of the last decade. Maybe something from Yuasa (Tatami or Kemono or Kaiba) as well since he's an excellent director too.

Truth.

As long as we've got SHAFT in there, you know it's a solid list.

Chihayafuru 16

I usually dislike recaps, except when they're done in interesting ways or they add something to the experience, so I'm OK with this recap.

Typical, what will I do without Omigawa?

On the subject of the spring chart, looks like a great season. I think my dark horse anime for the season will be Shirokuma Cafe. I saw it on the block for spring some time ago, the premise sounds fun. A comedy about an animal cafe run by a polar bear? Great stuff there.

Yeah the OVA is basically entertaining trash, so I imagine quite a lot was lost in the adaption. I recall seeing a few pieces of the manga some time ago, perhaps I'll give it a look at some point.

Patlabor 2 The Movie

Decided to go ahead and finish off Patlabor and glad I did, simply for the fact that I now have it behind me. Wasn’t as good as the first one and for me it was boring. I don’t need a fight scene every couple of minutes but give me a little something besides long panning shots and monologues. I know the movie does give you more than that but come on! Let’s see some mecha action for Christ’s sake. First movie at least had three this one only had two and the second one didn’t even last long.

I can understand why people like Patlabor 2 and I did enjoy it myself. I just don’t think it’s great or anything and I can’t see myself ever rewatching it.

@ ABlackFalcon

I agree with your review 100%. Not much else to say besides that.

Well.
Gekko State is the rebels, ie Holland, Eureka and the rest. The military, the guys in the giant black ships and the blue mechs, are the bad guys.

The shows all about these cool people who are different from everyone else with their sweet alternative music. Obv.

List time?

Will try:

Ozuma
Saint Seiya Omega
Uchuu Kyodai
Sengoku Collection
Eureka Stratos Ao
Hyouka
Fate/Zero
Medaka Box
Zetman
Sakamichi no Apollon
Tsuritama
Guilty Crown 2
Mysterious Girlfriend X

And I guess more depending on the reactions and reviews. Mother of god.

Three questions for every new season:

1) Which shows are Kobayashi in?
2) Which shows are SatoJun directing?
3) Which shows are written by Yoshida?

I'll watch those shows.

Serious (lolnotsrs) check out list:

Uchuu Kyoudai
Sengoku Collection?
Hyouka
Medaka Box (I demand sexual favors to be added to the box by ep.5)
Sakamichi no Apollon

...Man, have a feeling this list is totally gonna go out of whack for me.

I was thinking of Accel World.

Ah, of course

ibr5ehpjezDSjw.jpg

What I am willing to try out:

Sengoku Collection (though I expect it to turn out to be terrible like Brave 10)
Hyouka
Fate/Zero S2
Kore wa Zombie desu ka? OF THE DEAD (if I finish season 1 first)
Acchi Koochi
Sankarea (maybe?)
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san (another maybe)
Medaka Box
Sakamichi no Apollon (more maybe)
Accel World

But, I do expect to probably drop half of them by like week three or something.

What is this?

It's the show relaunching NHK General's animation block, from director Konosuke Uda (Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy, Lovely Complex, the upcoming Niji-Iro Hotaru) and studio TYO Animations (The Legend of Koizumi, Tamayura - Hitotose).

The anime is an adaptation of the 2006 soccer novel Ginga no World Cap (Galactic World Cup) by Hiroto Kawabata. The story follows a boy who was in a soccer team, but it was disbanded due to not enough players. However, after the boy meets a professional female soccer player, he aims to bring his soccer team back.

Hm I this is the first I'm hearing of Jormungand, its the new show for studio White Fox (Katanagatari, Steins Gate) apparently. Looks like a lot of the same staff as Katanagatari too, along with the writer for Onegai Teacher, Ano Natsu, etc.

Sounds like it could be good, I'll have to give it a look.

Some kinda kickball anime.

Knight in the Area sequel!

I hope Kobayashi is a main character at least. Then I can get away with not watching Queen's Blade.

I'll be trying a lot of these series, but I can't say that I'm hyped for anything other than Apollon and maybe Medaka Box.

Wait, is that a new anime with Umakoshi character designs? It looks like I'll be marathoning Saint Seiya in the near future.

I watched the promo for this a while back, thought it looked lame - it's white fox, I didn't like the designs, and the trailer itself sucked.

Hope it turns out well, though.

Man, I felt embarrassed on his behalf when watching that scene.

Apparently Koichi Yamadera can't pronounce "good luck" in English to save his life.

I love how this is coming from a country which doesn't give a single fuck about correct writing, pronounciation or sense of other languages, be it in movies, comics or tv series :D

Ah yeah I was just looking at the promo. Weak trailer. I'll give it a shot though, pretty decent staff, and the music should be good at least. White Fox has done solid work so far, although I only watched a couple episodes of Stein's.

I think Kobayashi is playing the male lead.

No need; Saint Seiya Omega is designed to be comfortable for people who have no prior experience of the series.

Like Black Lagoon, but Rock is a ptsd shouta-soldier/slave, and Revy--crazy and all--is a genki arms-dealer/crime-head. It's pretty dark. Also,

Could be in for some pretty badass scenes.

The promo didn't do a good job of it, but I was getting some Black Lagoon vibes. Given the premise, it would be great if it turns out to be a solid action anime.

Milky Holmes S2 3

This is much better than I would have thought. A glance at the premise and key art makes it seem like some dull cute girl slice-of-life sort of thing, but it's actually a wild, wacky, hyper-paced comedy, layering gags upon gags. It's the sort of show where the cast suddenly breaks out into a musical number.

I don't like the main character designs, but I do like the designs for the ancillary characters and the exaggerated art. There was one guy in particular who had some awesome faces:

I also like the art style used for the backgrounds:

Sometimes the humor is too fast or too random to stick with me, but considering how much they stuff into the episode enough of it sticks to be entertaining. I'll probably go back and check out the first season.

Yeah, I agree on that pv. I want to think that White Fox can do it right, but its a fast-paced kinda wtf~ish dumb fun seinen, and Steins;Gate didn't really impress with its production values, as much as I love it. Nothing they've done has, imo. But as long as they nail the facial expressions:

Chihayafuru 17-19

Not much to say about 17 and 18, but 19 was pretty good for me. Taichi has grown into a real man and, even though I'm on team Arata, I can finally respect Taichi.
Both match were pretty cool too.
