Yeah but
you saw how she was living and she didn't have a job. It's not like the church would provide everythin for her. And so what if she was super religious, that doesn't mean she won't do that to keep the little girl (her sister/daughter/cousin/niece?) from going hungry.

What the fuck. Some of you are terrible at understanding the purpose of certain narratives!

Major spoilers for Wings of Honneamise

The rape scene in Honneamise is a culmination of the differences in philosophy and life that is shared by the two characters. Their relationship and friendship throughout the film is artificially forced because each side wants to pretend they can ignore the incompatibilities and have some sort of companionship.

In reality, he is a simple man with weak control and has no real interest in her religion or better himself from a morale stand point. He only sticks with her because she is a woman who has shown interest in him, and he wants to get in her pants. He takes her interest in him to be a sign that she might not mind being his girlfriend or sleeping with him, and he is confused why she does not respond well to his advances nor does she take the first step.

She on the other hand, is a deeply religious woman who sees a lost soul who might be saved if she works hard enough and is patient with him. She takes his willingness to listen to her and spend time with her as a sign that he could be taking the first step to embracing her message. She never sees him as a love interest, and he is simply someone she wants to help to see the light, oblivious to the fact that he sees something else in the relationship. Either she does not understand this, or she chooses to ignore it.

The rape scene is the result of the absolute build up of his emotions and his inability to control himself any longer. He is tired, and not in the best state of mind, and he feels that she has been leading him on for too long and tries to take action to push her to the next step in the relationship. In response she is shocked and horrified and knocks him out.

But the next day, her reaction to him shows how deep her beliefs are, and she apologizes instead. This act fundamentally changes his entire view on the relationship, and he realizes that he never had a place in her heart, but that he still has a place in her life, in a different way. This in turn makes him reflect more deeply on how different people can be, and how there are different goals and dreams for everyone, including himself.

It is this deep journey the characters shared together in their lives that results in the main character undergoing a sort of epiphany when he successfully makes orbit in space. The movie is a beautiful reflection on live and dreams, and it would not be the same without the hard parts of life that sometimes we do not want to look at. The imperfections that show how fragile our humanity really is, and how unjustified forgiveness can sometimes change a man when simple tolerance and basic daily advice cannot.

The movie would NOT be the same without the rape scene. It would be a weaker movie, and a less interesting one. There is nothing sexual about it, it is simply a psychological direction in the character arcs.

Been wondering. Has anyone ever been to momocon? Having lived at GA Tech for 4 years, I always seem to be busy during that event lmao. First time I have the time to go... =#

The worst thing about
the rape scene
in Honneamise is the fact that
Riquinni literally blames herself (the victim) and apologies to Lhadatt (the aggressor) for defending herself against a rapist.
Just what the fuck was Gainax thinking?

I’m not good with interrupting stuff. I just assumed it meant
she was a prostitute and that’s why he tried to rape her. Cause you know he’d been seeing her but she wouldn’t sleep with him but she’d sleep with other men for money.

I agree though, it's still misogynist no matter how you roll the dice.

There's a scene where it's implied that Riquinni engages in acts of prostitution just to make ends meet. The scene in question is where money falls out of Riquinni’s shoes and this supposedly references when prostitutes would hide money in their shoes during the Edo period.
Personally I think it's grasping at straws to defend that scene in the most fucked up and misogynistic way imaginable.

I don't think that's a fair generalization at all, but okay.
Well, if you had to boil it all down to its essence, it's about a dude trying to get some and realizing he's a dick for doing so. The fact that she's okay with it just puts into light all the frustrated desires he has.

It's a depiction of a very real relationship that two people with such characteristics would have. It does not paint either character as making the right choices with their life, but this is simply how they see the world, and it is how they influence each other.

Dirty Pair: Flight 005 Conspiracy

iqphaBwZ2Z9lu.jpg

A little too grim for what is normal in Dirty Pair, however I thought this entry was one of the more well written entries/episodes in the series. Outside of some minor pacing issues with how the material is delivered, I found it to be one of the most interesting cases that Kei and Yuri have worked. It was really more like sci-fi crime/mystery, so there's a bit less comedy than is usual outside of some moments here than there(the bit with the piece of mail was particularly hilarious). It's basically an extended serious episode of the show/OVA series. Like Nolandia, but minus the issues that plagued that title along with all the other weirdness of the story and visuals. Visually it's second only to Project Eden, lots of quality animation to be seen here. I really liked the darker shading they used on the characters in this one too, went well with the atmosphere. Flight 005 is certainly one of the best, if not the best, "serious" entries in the series.

Oh I should mention that I really enjoyed the soundtrack in Flight 005. Quite good.

So other than Affair of Nolandia, the entire series is pretty high quality anime. Outside of Nolandia, I could see a case being made for any of the entries as being the best in the series. I give the edge to Project Eden for being so awesome, but realistically the TV series and OVA series are probably the best simply because of the amount of material to watch and the variety you get from episode to episode.

Onward to Flash I suppose. I'll probably put it off for a little while though.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko special: I wouldn't mind having another season of this show. This was a lot of hnnng, everybody being adorable. Still don't really like Index2 or it is 3? It also got meta shafty in the latter part of the episode. Would of liked more meme though. There's always something about star gazing and night sky watching that does it for me. Where's Sora no ManiMani 2 : (

Dat Ryuushi and dat luster.

Ano Natsu 5

This series has always been incredible in the scenery dept, but this ep shot it into the stratosphere. That lighting when the rain cleared. Those shadows during the filming scene. Those colors. All so good. As were the dialogues; There was a glaring dearth of Manami, but shit's beginning to get real with the hierarchy. I'm wondering who's going to link first.

Not to mention that Kei and Yuri are 19 and actually look about that age. Dirty Pair is good stuff all around.

No. Please don't watch it. It's like going from Bubblegum Crisis to Bubblegum Crash.

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom Episodes 1-3

Liking this so far but don’t know how it’s going to hold out for 26 episodes. I predict Zwei will persuade Ein to help him take down Inferno.
I uploaded a video regarding this. If you can pull entertainment out of the series, more power to you, but I dropped it like a bad habit.

Haha been watching one piece as well. Got to the sand arc (100s?). Good stuff. The pacing is still a bit slow which is probably more the manga's fault. Chopper's VA fits his character perfectly imo. So adorable!

Ok so, I dropped this the second the dude turned into a
foxman
because I'm just not into that stuff.

Is that just like, a small point, and there's more show to this that I should watch?

PS: I love fanservice and zettai ryoukai.

Hmm, I don't remember that.

On dat P.S., One Piece shall not satisfy you in those ends.
There are big boobs everywhere, but little fan service. (I still don't know how that works) Also no zettai ryoukai.

Overall, I would say, you're not missing anything glossing over One Piece (past the desert/Alabasta arc). Then again, my "shonen spirit" has crumbled over the past year (for the better, honestly).

What the fuck. Some of you are terrible at understanding the purpose of certain narratives!

Major spoilers for Wings of Honneamise

I already admitted I suck at interuptting stuff but yeah, what you said makes sense.

Personally I think it's grasping at straws to defend that scene in the most fucked up and misogynistic way imaginable.

I’m not trying to defend it, and I’m not implying you’re saying I am, that’s just how I saw it. As I’ve already said, in this same post in fact, I suck at interrupting stuff. I just take anything a movie or show gives me at face value and don’t try to find the hidden message.

So for me that scene was pretty cut and dry.
Riquinni takes her shoe off, money falls out and she seems to be ashamed as she picks it up. Lhadatt sees this and he immediately becomes distant to her, won’t eat her food or even look at her (besides up her skirt). Then he tries to rape her because she’s doing that with other men for money and not for him even though he actually likes her.

Is he justified in his actions? Fuck no. But that's what I saw. And yeah, her apologizing to him pissed me off. She should have beaten the shit out of him.

The worst thing about
the rape scene
in Honneamise is the fact that
Riquinni literally blames herself (the victim) and apologies to Lhadatt (the aggressor) for defending herself against a rapist.
Just what the fuck was Gainax thinking?
I know it is never explicitly stated in the movie, I would like to think it ties back into parts of the new testament like this:

Mark 9:42-48
42 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—...
And, to a lesser degree (as the context could confuse my point) 1 Corinthians 8 touches on a similar concept.
She saw her own sexuality (or maybe just herself, in general) as being a stumbling block for him. She was trying to be a positive influence in his life, but her presence ended up being the exact opposite. It's not so much that she is apologizing for the defense, but more that she didn't realize she had, unintentionally, caused him to sin.
Was it perhaps not conveyed in the right way? Kinda, maybe. Am I reaching a bit too much? I'd say it's entirely possible, but I like to think that was the intent.

It's been a couple of years since my last viewing, so take that with a grain of salt. : P

Well like, in the first episode, he
grew a tail and ears at the end.

Also, maybe it's time I begin my journey into One Piece. I've been putting it off for years just like Bleach.

However, unbeknownst to me for some reason, I am totally up to episode 644 (I think) on Detective Conan. Something is wrong with me.

No. Please don't watch it. It's like going from Bubblegum Crisis to Bubblegum Crash.

So I've heard. At the same time, I am somewhat compelled to complete the entire series since I have been on this Dirty Pair binge lately. Part of me wants to see how bad it is too.

Speaking of Dirty Pair, its too bad they phased Nammo out of the series. That little robot had heart. Although I suppose it would have been redundant to keep it in the series considering Mughi basically took over its duties on the ship.

Steins;Gate 25: I may not have been very vocal about this, but what I thought was indifference at first on restrospect was a kind of mild-annoyance. I honestly didn't like Steins;Gate -the plot twists were too arbitrary, the characters did not evoke any sympathy from me, and indeed most of the character dynamics felt like pandering disguised as something else. That show ticked me off in the wrong way because how it tried to play tragedy porn with its cast while still attempting to be hard sci-fi, succeeding at neither.

This episode was like the best and the worst of Steins;Gate for me. The comedy was funny, but the rest felt very... pointless? There's not a real structure to it beyond
Kyouma having to tell something to Kurisu
, which in itself was a story that didn't need to be told. For all my complaints about the show, the original ending hit the emotional notes it needed to. It wasn't left ambiguous beyond how the characters' futures would pan out; what was important was that we knew they would have a future. So these twenty minutes of mediocrity are not only boring, but also redundant.

I give this special/episode thingy a 2/5.

To tell someone to watch One Piece and skip Water 7/Enies Lobby is advocating sin.

Guilty Crown - 18

Surely there comes a point when a show can't get more stupid than it already is week by week, sadly Guilty Crown hasn't reached its plateu yet.

And didn't this show already do the damsel in distress thing some 6-7 episodes ago, good grief.

Well like, in the first episode, he

You sure you talking about One Piece and not...Ninjafriends?
Unless...that's the joke.

To tell someone to watch One Piece and skip Water 7/Enies Lobby is advocating sin.

I honestly am not the largest fan of that arc. The "message" behind it is nice,
due to Robin having the best backstory of the gang
. Yet, I found the final battle (and a few surrounding it) not very entertaining. I DID like the
Kaku
battle and
steroids
Chopper was neat.
In retrospect, if he was that curious in the series, it wouldn't be the worst stopping place.

Chihahayafuru - Ep. 20

Finally! Arata back like a fucking boss. God I can't stand Taichi. He's still the same spoiled, jealous little **** he was as a kid.

Anyway, as expected, Chihaya continues to move dangerously closer to usurping Holo as my favorite female lead.

Pre-recap Water 7 is one of the best arcs in the series. Well paced with great direction. Post-recap is worst-of-Naruto level shit.

Niiniigami SS+ 8

And so ends the brief era of Sexhair and the ushering in of what will undoubtedly be the completely forgettable Sae arc. :(

Maybe you're right and I'm probably overreacting but I just have little patience for victim blaming, perceived or otherwise.

I'm sorry if I came across as singling you out (I wasn't even thinking of your post as I wrote that!), it's just that in the past I've come across the mentality that someone could have it coming to them w/r/t rape far too many times and I just find the whole notion rather repulsive.

I know it is never explicitly stated in the movie, I would like to think it ties back into parts of the new testament like this:

I guess that makes sense it the context of her religious beliefs but still...

Either way I'm still buying the shit outta that BD!

There we go.

Oh god it looks like i'm trolling.
I actually just fucked up and hit the wrong quote.
Sorry :/

Haha, it's all good.
I was like, "Either this is the best mainstream shonen trolling ever...or I missed a very important part of early One Piece..."

I wish it was the first one lol. Then I would seem clever.

I dunno dude, it speaks volume about how dull the character is if they need to add
teen pregnancy
into the mix.

Let's think for a second, Nishishishishshi can
be the godmother and caretaking aunt, and be around the child
all the time nishishishishishihi'ing.

You'd want that, right? We'd all want that.
Does this true end involve Nii-nii?
True end involves
Sae having implied sex at the movie theater with Junichi and getting preggers in high school only 9 months after the date.

There's still hope they fit it in somehow. You can read my first spoiler to Wonzo if you read this one to you first.

So duckroll, now that you've said all that what do you think about (SPOILERS, don't even highlight the link people) this article.

According to the article "anyone who defends it is intellectually dishonest or just human filth." So, are you human filth? Or dishonest?

I don't see how you could figure the plot-twists of Steins arbitrary, honestly. If anything, I think they were a bit predictable.
We've already had this discussion with how the
"fixed points in time that must always happen"
and which are the crux of the plot are never given a reasoning as to why they are what they are.

That explains why he
Hesitated for a while when they met on the train as he was off to his mission before simply saying he's off. I guess in that moment he realized their differences and incompatibility and realized he had to let go

I didn't know about the whole
money in the shoe prostitution implications, it explains why he was acting distant the rest of the night, and the attempted rape.
You two guys new info let me put together the seemingly unrelated pieces I had floating around. It was painfully obvious that he was
interested in her from the outset,
First he invites her to look at stars, but she brings the kid along, cockblocking him
Then he gets the scriptures from her, and says he'd rather read it with her while grabbing her hand, and she straight up ignores it
Then we have the whole apologizing for hitting him thing, and I'm betting at that point he realizes she didn't see him as a horny man, like most women would, but rather that she somehow caused a lost soul to stumble, and it was her fault. You can see how thrown off he is at that part, Because it's around then he realizes he's not really a 'man' to her as much as someone to be saved,
Which leads to him simply saying he's off when he runs into her for the last time, realizing the actual relationship (or lack of) they have.

Well thanks guys, it makes a lot more sense now

Also, DAT ENDING SONG
