I really like FT, heck, at times I get close to genuinly finding it one of the more interesting shonen out there. But chapters like this one make me realise why it never quite reaches that spot.
The art is solid and I even have grown to like a lot of FT members, but Mashima makes plot decisions that make me want to gauge my liver out in disgust. He's going for the expected (forcefully making FT the total underdog through unfair play) and has to rely on very questionable writing and plot development for it to happen.
Anytime the series starts getting close to a point where I feel like I might throw in the towel and admit it's actually quite good it contains a decision that makes me slam my head into the desk.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, but it's been pretty clear for a while that FT is a series best enjoyed just to ride along and not to think too much.
Decided to do the same thing after reading all the posts about it. Been reading the first chapter up to that specific page, jaw dropped, stopped and switched to this thread on another tab, scrolled down 2 posts and I see this post with the exact image I just read. Amazing.

Gonna have to agree with the Magi praise. I love the uniqe setting (for manga at least) and it's just been a great read.

I only started reading this arc (I stopped after Soul Society) and I think I'm going to stop again, it's only gotten worse it seems.
Every line seems like it's been spoken a thousand times already and it feels like the whole chapter could be done in two pages.

Oh I get that. It just annoys me because I think FT would have a lot of potential if it had a decent supportive writer to make the general plot a bit more ..uh.. not stupid.
The tournament stuff almost made me feel like we might have an arc without the stuff that usually annoys me about FT, so I'm mostly upset at myself for being too optimistic about it.

I think I said in the past that I love Kei Tome.
Bought this and wow, for a first volume it was pretty great. I really liked the way the relationship between the characters are expressed. There is this weird/disturbing feeling, that is a bit part of the charm of Kei Tome's works for me, between Shinako and Rikuo that's interesting to watch (it's interesting how Rikuo would like to act mature and still be a friend, but he doesn't have a problem admitting to himself and, after, to Shinako herself, that their friendship, at least on his side, would be with ulterior motives), just as interesting is Haru and her supposed obsession with Rikuo, though how much is it real I'm still not sure on. Sure she went and declared "war" to Shinako so the interest is there, but is she really that much of a stalker or was that really a lie as she claimed before?
Vol 2 is out but I can't buy it right now, and this sucks.

This Fairy Tail tournament is going to piss me off the same way the Yu Yu Hakusho tournament did didn't? Blatant disregard for the rules when they go against the main characters, seriously this is fucking bullshit and it pisses me off no end when they pull this cheap crap.

Incredible chapter. I'm so glad Mashima brought back Gemini even thought they were retconned. (they can now only copy people that are close to Lucy's magical power; though they were used to Copy Gray, who is much stronger than the original owner whats her name) I'll admit that this retcon is necessary since Mashima can't have Lucy winning her fights by spamming Gajeel or Natsu. Speaking of Natsu, what. a. boss. I was afraid that he'd give her a rousing frienship speech and Lucy would win from that, but his awesome hearing comes through and he totally owns that cheating red head. Threatning children raven claw? For shame. I was absolutely hyped when Lucy was using "that spell." (I was 99% sure she would never use it again!) though it seems it was cancelled out by one of the Raven Claw members. Can they really do that? They basically cheated and weren't caught; this means that their obviously going to suffer repurcusions at the end. Annoying, but having them disqualified from the start would be boring. The sum things up, the chapter was a rousing success and Mashima is on a roll, I can't wait to see what does with Natsu and Erza. He can't keep trolling FT, and eventually they'll win.

The video of W.I.S.E and the kids was pretty epic, didnt know the future was so imminent, it was actually pretty mindblowing. Curious how Kabuto, Ageha and others can try to prevent it from happening in their actual timeline (if thats the route that the story will take) or confront these folks in the future world.
They really should animate it.

I like reading Parallel before I try to re-read Pastel. For some reason, it makes my self-loathing that much greater.

Landscape spreads. Also the character art is amazing. But yeah no real reason to read it all the way through. Nothing ever happens.

Wrong. The mage council is not present, not a single one of them. Have you not read the previous chapter? There were representative of the mage council and they are called cherry blossom holly knights squadron. Besides, it´s not mentioned anywhere that mage council members are the most powerful mages alive.

Pastel has an entire 40+ page chapter following a cat around the town. It also has cat conversations. Fuck... And to boot, about 20 girls who look exactly the same. Also, nothing happens after the couple got together. NOTHING. It's like endless 8 but you don't even get a pool scene.
Pastel might as well be a manga where you watch Mugi read KnT.
He did say slice of life.
But fine what about Solanin? Yeah thats a good upbeat slice of life romance where things happen.
