Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

IDK, I've done it before and it looked fine. On a friend's 3DS of course.

At least with Pokemon White, when I went from the DS to the 3DS with it the downgrade was extremely noticeable. Washed out, dull colors and everything was just blurry.

Thankfully I kept my DS. Not sure if I'll pick this game up, but I'll need to see more details before I decide.

Can someone explain to me why people wanted Grey so much? Wouldn't it be much better to get a completely new game than to just get a updated Black/White?

Version 2 makes it sound like there's just a new level.

It must be possible to do a 3DS enhanced thing like they did DSi. Even if it was just to fullscreen the game, that'd be ace.

What the...

So is this a sequel or a remake or a third game or a redux edition or what? Will there be 100+ new Pokemon? Does anyone care about Kyurem?

An English PR already? Late 2012 US release, then.

Even though I'm remembering the English PR not being too far behind for BW, all Gen 4 releases were September in Japan, March internationally. That's six months, and since BW2 are June that means these will hit other countries in December (at the latest if Nintendo doesn't hustly on translating due to 3DS.)

I actually am very curious as to how these games will differentiate themselves from the previous iterations. Surely they must have semi big plans to actually constitute not just one, but two sequels?

I'm pretty sure we'll meet N again, so make sure you buy the same version you played so he keeps the same Pokémon, I guess.

English PR already? Really good chance they'll come this year then.

That's what I'm thinking.

I really wonder how far into the DS lifespan were Nintendo still publishing GBA games.

DS games 1.5-1.75 years into the 3DS's life seems odd to me. Was there even any shelf space for GBA games that far into the DS? I'm curious.

Easy cash in. Selling it only on the 3DS would surely move systems, but it limits the revenue they can get. I'm guessing money is more important to them atm then pushing hardware, considering the 3DS is healthy now but is being sold at a loss. Also works as a stop gap until Game Freak is ready with their full 3DS iteration.
I'm thinking they would have started to develop it for the 3DS as soon as it was healthy, but the wait was too long, thus the DS platform choice. That, or they care a lot about their DS audience and would like to cover both platforms with ease, while expanding on the engine they developed for B/W.

So many possibilities here.

Yeah, the whole post-game Looker dialog definitely makes it sound like N is messing around elsewhere. He'll definitely be involved.

My speculation:

- Continues the stories from B&W. N, Kyurem, and the 3 main trainers.
Definitely. There were far too many sequel hooks for this no to be the case.
- Takes place in a new region.
New? There's a good chance it doesn't take place in Unova (Maybe Hoenn?) But they're not going to introduce a new setting.
- Unova unlocks when you beat the Elite 4 in the new region.
Definitely if it takes place somewhere else.
- No new Pokemon besides the legendaries and new forms. Maybe a handful. Definitely not 100 new ones.
Now truly new pokémon since this is still Gen V. There'll be a bunch of new forms though.

- Gets rid of Dream World crap in favor of more in-game content.
Dream World is likely here to stay, and will probably get more features when BW2 come out.

I went on this huge rant in the community thread about being disappointed that gen 5 was DS only and then this happens. Bravo, Game Freak, bravo.

They seem to be semi-independent from Nintendo proper in that they can't be bullied into things like platform choice, having a consistent interface or using the latest hardware. First it was HGSS not being DSi enhanced (nobody used WEP anymore, Gamefreak) and now this.

Disappointed, to say the least.

Black/White got a promo site at the same time as Japan did.

Oh? Well, either way, I can't believe Nintendo/Pokemon Company would release a DS game after 2012. I mean, when the DS came out, the only new GBA game brought here was Pokemon Dungeon and that was the year after it came out...not two!

no, rse takes place at the same time as rby. bw take place some amount of time (7+ years?) after dppt/gsc. this takes place after bw.
7 years? That seems kinda long.

I thought I remembered Cynthia in BW talking like she didn't experience DPPt yet... guess I'm just confused, sorry.

They ran out of colors. Time to run through the numbers.

Pokemon is the biggest system seller ever. It's not like Diamond and Pearl had issues selling. Plus DS has a huuuuuge piracy problem.

But whatever, it took 6 months for B&W to come out in the states right?

They're actually calling it 2? Hahaha oh wow.

Also Battle Frontier better be in this outing otherwise I'm not buying it. Fuck Gamefreak for nixing it in Black and White 1.
