Pretty sure that's because of how B/W's story ends. You'll still want Black 2 if you played Black 1 and vice-versa (this is my guess).
Hope that doubles become the standard.
I might do the same. I can't afford to let summer go by without playing the games. So probably import one version and buy the other version when it's localized.

BW2 would sell tons of 3DS's but since Nintendo's selling those at a loss at the moment, it would actually hurt their bottom line.
Other way around for me this time.
My prediction:
This is just Pokémon Grey, but split into two version so they sell 10% more, because of the people that always get every SKU of Pokémon titles.

...and I suppose if this is a direct sequel, you'd want all the BW players to buy it (rather than only a few 'replaying it' with Grey) so the same console makes some sense.
You do know that this is a sequel right? The hypothetical Grey version would be just an enhancement of the regular BW versions.

.Not really, I'll be getting Black 2 when I got White before (well I have J Black but even if I didn't, I'd go White->Black 2)
Reason being, if I'm not getting both versions, might as well go zig zag. There's no point to staying on one side so long. Plus I like Zekrom.
Perhaps they do? The 3DS pokemon game is probably under development, but since there making like everything from scratch, its take a good few years. So instead of missing the opportunity to make quick buck they set a smaller team to make black and white 2 for DS.
White had Triple Battles, Black had Rotation Battles.

Indeed. Doubles/Triple/Rotation battles actually becoming the norm, ala Colosseum and XD would make it impossible to actually evenly level Pokemon, especially factoring in different Pokemon growth rates and so forth. And since I'm anal about that kind of thing... I really hope not. I hated being locked to double battles in the Gamecube games and I'd hate it if they tried it again--they're fine as a change from the norm, but they shouldn't actually become the main method of battle.

Unexpected, but I'm fine with this. They probably had something they wanted to do and weren't ready to go all-out on 3DS. A year ago there was no 3DS and I was playing DS (still do), so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me if I have to buy a new DS game in 2012.

Yeah, it's isn't a surprise that they're not making this for 3DS. The install base and amount of Pokémon players of the DS is high. Well, it's the highest so far in history. So why not abuse that sell an incredible amount of games. Also: The games are going to be advertised to be both for DS and 3DS. Look at the Pokémon website.
I also feel like Gamefreak wants more time for the next generation of Pokémon games, because they wont to make the game different. At least from a visual standpoint. I would really like a proper 3D Pokémon and battles look more interesting. The differences in fights between Green and BW are neglegible. You have more colors and more information about your attacks. And that's basically it. The animations are boring and the Pokémon sounds didn't get any better.

The fact that its not a new gen is pretty awful IMO. I think they are testing just how far they can go with the rehashes. Weird it isn't on the 3DS either.
GameFreak has two teams. Team A is most likely making Gen VI on 3DS while Team B (remake team) is making this.
For how crazy this announcement is, most people in this thread would have still said it was more likely than a Gen 6 announcement.
Really dunno why you were hoping for that so soon man.
