Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_(company)

Creatures Inc. (株式会社クリーチャーズ Kabushiki-gaisha Kurīchāzu?) is a subsidiary of the Japanese game development company Nintendo. It was founded by Tsunekazu Ishihara in November 1995, as a successor to Shigesato Itoi's company Ape Inc.[1] Its current president is Hirokazu Tanaka. The company has its headquarters on the second floor of the Gobancho KU Building (五番町KUビル Gobanchō KU Biru?) in Chiyoda, Tokyo,[2] in proximity to the Japan Rail Ichigaya Station.[3] Creatures is the producer of the Pokémon card game, and it owns one-third of the copyright over the Pokémon franchise (the other two-thirds shared equally between Nintendo and Game Freak).

Now you know the secret connection between Earthbound and Pokemon.

Creatures, Inc. was established on November 8, 1995.[4]

Previously Creatures had its headquarters on the 7th floor of the Nintendo Kanda Building (任天堂神田ビル Nintendō Kanda Biru?) in Sudachō, Chiyoda, Tokyo.[5] At a later point it was headquartered in the fifth floor annex of the Kawasaki Sada Building (川崎定徳ビル Kawasaki Sada Biru?) in Nihonbashi, Chūō, Tokyo.[6]

This makes it sounds like Creatures is another Nintendo 1st party.

All the people going "wah wah it should've been on the 3DS Nintendo no believe in it" make me lol.

Is there anyway for the DS game to play on the 3DS without looking like crap?

Holding down start and select as you start the game plays it in original resolution. Be warned though, it's tiny.

You're telling me. :P So on the books Nintendo only owns a 1/3 but I guess since they own Creatures they end up having a majority stake? Or something.

I still find it crazy that the Pokémon Company exists. That "Pokémon" is so big that a company had to be created to manage it.

That's probably to make sure Pokemon never goes anywhere but Nintendo systems, otherwise while 2/3 is a lot it's not like they outright own the franchise and can dictate what Game Freak does with it. Pressure them? Yes. But Game Freak's the ones at the reigns.

That sounds good to me man lol. Like I said, Game Freak has two teams. One is always making mainline titles, the other is making remakes. Instead of remakes this time, its a sequel.

Game Freak was the first one to receive 3DS dev kits. The next Pokemon is clearly coming to the 3DS. It makes sense why the sequel is hitting the DS. It gives them a 40M (35 DS and 5 3DS) userbase to sell to. And I'm sure Nintendo doesn't mind the least bit, its software sales in where they make their money anyway. They'll market this alongside 3DS regardless.

And likely, its a cheap sequel too considering they likely using the same engine made for B/W on the DS.

Don't forget; the DS has an 32 million + installed base in Japan.

Sure the 3DS is the new hotness now, but its backwards compatible.

This is a very smart business move by Nintendo. Also they get to reuse the B&W engine.

I also think as strange as it may seem that the poster who suspects this to be part of a trilogy may eventually be correct. It makes sense.

This will be the DS's true swan song. June eh?

It encompasses games, anime, manga, toys, clothes... Pretty much needs it. :P GF can't handle that, they're pretty small IIRC, and Nintendo doesn't want to deal with all that non-game crap either.

The first thing I thought when I heard about it. They must really be attached to N and Ghetis story.

I don't know much about GF development teams and structure but going with the whole 2 teams thing, B/W 2 is being made by the HG/SS team then correct? So a Pokemon following you around is still possible then

I want to hear Nintendo's explanation for a DS release over 3DS. They'll need some REALLY convincing argument to buy this decision.

well the only one possible explanation I can think of is that reusing assets from B/W is going to cost shit, Nintendo has no big games out in June, Pokemon 3DS is still a year away so they needed a sure hit to boost some DS sales and stop Vita gaining ground during a month where it could actually happen

I'm surprised at everyone's... surprise. That it's not on 3DS or a new generation.

Honestly, I'm just surprised they're being labeled as sequels and not as "Gray". I hope this implies a new campaign/story.

I would actually be incredibly pleased if these sequels added new evolutions. It's probably incredibly unlikely, but I always love it when unbalanced Pokémon are given new gameplay opportunities. I think most people were upset with Diamond/Pearl's glut of evolutions, but it was honestly my favorite part, and I was very disappointed Black/White didn't have any evolutions.

Even something as simple as Rotom's forms or new abilities would please me. Anything to breathe life into underused/useless monsters. (C'mon, samurai Fighting/Flying Farfetch'd evo!)

Can't blame them, they felt pretty fresh actually.

I mean if FF13's cast of characters can get a direct sequel...

hold select while starting a DS game and it'll display at the original resolution. This works for Virtual Console and DSiware games too.

I've love to see a special edition 3DS that includes these games.

If and only if June this year is a worldwide release it'll sell like hotcakes.

Thanks for the heads up. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem. 3DS will definitely be for Gen 6 and R/S remakes (unless the Hoenn region speculation is true.)

If this doesn't add any new pokemon besides legendaries and doesn't add anything to the gameplay I'll see no reason to get this. Who plays pokemon for the single player?

I need to learn more about these games before I can form an opinion or get hype. Am I going to need to buy original Black or White for the full experience? Will these games stand on their own well? Are we going to a different region (Hoenn maybe)? Will the plot be entirely brand new (though a continuation of B&W of course)?

Also lol at people whining about this being on the DS instead of the 3DS. I can understand wanting the extra features but if this was just Pokemon Grey instead, did you really think it would have been on 3DS? Unrealistic and silly expectations for the lose.

Don't know, it could as well on 3DS as they could on DS. No to mention DS has lost it's appeal for some time. A new Pokemon on 3DS would skyrocket it's sales the same way P/D did with DS. IMO, it would be a better business move for Nintendo to release it on 3DS.

I think a lot people (outside Japan especially) play it just for the single player. Who really knows what this game will bring to the series though. Anything anyone says here is pure speculation. We don't know much besides there being 2 new Kyurem forms.

I know all of that, but It's still mind-blowing to think that something that started within my lifetime has become so huge.

Pokemon games are excellent single player RPGs

Probably some of the most excellent to come out of Japan this generation, actually.

True. But, it's not like it doesn't happen often. Google was founded just 14 years ago and look where they are now.

I do, they are fun to play in spurts and I don't feel like dealing with competitive bullshit honestly lol

I play Pokemon for both single player and competitive multiplayer. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one.

Single player is a great rush for the first two weeks after purchase, posting in the OTs, learning everything the game has to offer, relishing in the experience. The multiplayer keeps me coming back months and sometimes years later. They're both important to me.

Lots of people do actually especially in the west when local wireless shit isn't an option for a lot of people.

Yep. I play it the same exact way.

I do too! Haven't played much B/W competitively since they took out the level 100 battle option. I hope these games add that back in.

Don't want to be redundant but I only play SP too. Sometimes local MP with friends but almost never online.

Nintendo should just create fake DS shortages the month it comes out

then bamm, 3DS selling trillions and generation war over

bwahahaha, that'd be so evil.

That person was me until B/W. HG/SS and B/W pretty much got me back into pokemon in general and full blown into competitive. I know quite a few people who just play it exclusively for the main game too.

If it's really about re-using assets then why not release it as Grey?

When will we get more info on this?

The one thing I want from B/W2 is for them to un-neuter the online battling. Taking out Auto-100 for 6v6 single battles is probably one of the worst changes they made in B/W. I cannot fathom why they did that whatsoever, and its pretty much the only reason I barely touched my copy of white after beating it. I used to play competitively a ton, but this gen I haven't even bothered to EV train a single pokemon.

I only play single player.

If this game drops in November/December in North America....damn. 19 months after 3DS launch? Lol
