I remember saying that he should be proud his side played so well, and to enjoy European football. How did that go by the way? I don't remember how West Ham did in the UEFA Cup back then.

We were thoroughly embarrassed by Palermo and our fans got into a spot of bother with the Italian police, so all things considered, pretty normal by West Ham standards :lol

I'll never be able to forget how absolutely gutted I was after we lost the '06 final, seriously the most painful moment I've ever experienced watching football - even worse than our Championship play-off final loss to Crystal Palace, and believe me, that one stung.

Still, at least if we win the league this year I'll get to see West Ham lift a proper trophy for the first time in my 27 years supporting them :p

Happy we managed to win that, to be honest it wasn't a great performance, not by a long way, but sometimes a bit of luck helps I guess.

With that said, get in!!

I don't see that myself (the first part) I thought they were shite just Liverpool were no better, miss easy chances and lose, simple enough.

I thought they showed quality in the final third, and defended well enough throughout. In my mind they exceeded expectations, despite not having the quality to stroke the ball around too much. Saying that, as you say, we were pretty shite today, but that doesn't matter when you win, especially with the performances we put in along the way.

He's missed 2 already this season. Missed badly last week.

He missed 4, I would have kidnapped him myself to stop him from taking a penalty, he's so fucking awful with them.

Congrats to Liverpool. Still not a big fan of Downing though. I think he's just plain bad. Squirtle should have been MotM.

Downing played out of his mind this match, and his performances in general this season have been impressive to the point of winning me over (was biggest skeptic with his first tenure in England), now I think he deserves a place in the England squad, I must have a terminal illness and I'm not long for this world.

Giggs AND Scholes scored? I wish I was there :P

Not even sure. But Silvestre went out injured so Munoz will play... Will get real nasty, expecting a 0-5.

The mountain won't allow it.

Or Miccoli.

Napoli - Inter in a few minutes. I'm laughing already

credit to Cardiff, great game you gave us and gracious losers

hope you get promoted!

So your a Liverpool fan, really. So let me get this straight your Welsh but purport to be a Manc (or if you don't seem to love the place) then you support that Scouse lot while studying in York and wedging in Warrington somewhere. Sure there's enough of you left to spread about ;)

Sooo ... Pepe and Vidal are out against Chievo on saturday. Everybody's saying we're going back to 4-3-3. You know what that means, guys. It's time. Finally. This time for sure.

Elia rocks. I hope he plays at the EC this summer. I dreamed about the Germany-Netherlands match this night! 0-6 for Holland. Germany changed their green shirt for a black shirt in between the halves because they sucked in the green shirt. Stupid dream, but hey, 0-6.

It's about time!

Better news, Sergio Pellisier is suspended!

Bad news? 7 of our starting 11 called up for the national team.

Well it's been a weak half but a win is a win. Plus Izmailov's goal is worthy of being the winner. Hopefully Porto and Braga slip up

Just woke up. Today's been so shit/weird. Sprained my ankle (heard a gruesome click as well) during football today which will take me out of the game for a while, got yellow carded (so a lovely fine) and then I see that the Twilight Zone happened and Spurs got spanked.

Anyway, seeing as Liverpool won the Carling Cup, doesn't this mean they get in to the Europa League and it frees up 7th spot for qualification? Or is that for the FA Cup? This shit always confuses me.

Yes, our win gives us access to the Europa League. I think it's the only "tier 2" cup to award the winners with EL access.

Edit: Wiki says that the France equivalent of the League Cup also awards the winner.

1/2/3 = Automatic CL Qualification
4 = CL Qualifier
5 = Automatic EL Qualification

Then there is two EL Qualifiers for the winners of the FA and CC and maybe Fair Play depending on the draw. But because Liverpool won that, if they finished 7th then 6th would get it I'd assume, and not Cardiff. If they finished 5th then 6th would get it, 6th then 7th.

It might be Cardiff though, I might be wrong.

So Newcastle now guaranteed Europa League now (well, if we stay in the top 7)? Or is the FA Cup final still a way to curb the top 7 by granting the winners access also.

EDIT: Missed the above post. Thanks Wilbury.

Kenny says Agger "may" have broken his rib. So we will play an inexperienced Uruguayan or the world's slowest man against the best striker in the league.

We already tried that today. It didn't go very well :(

Anyone else watching the Barca game with the American/British commentary? I like the duo. They compliment each other well. Though I don't like the NFL terms used like "off the quarter".
