One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
That game should be on the DS to take advantage of its... unique features.

You know what I'm talking about!

I made it through the whole thing even though I kinda couldn't stand the character designs. I even took a smugface.gif screencap to prove my fealty.

I thought the anime character designs were awful. The light novel art is very pretty.

The Light of El Cantare
The entire premise of the series is solve real world problems through relating them to literary works. It sounds super hokey but it works and Tohko keeps it all together. That was just the particular "case" they worked on in the movie. Hirano ruins everything =(

Yeah, I can see how it would be entertaining if they had just focused on a different case. It felt like it kind of switched genres on me midway through.

I should watch the rest, it's only like an hour more.

The other world is much more compelling in every way (the end bit with Dead Master's army was really cool visually). The unintentional comedy of the real world (it might just be deliberate at this point) is gold. srs bns friendships going on here. Looks like the best parts have already been gif'd.

For a series that never got an anime or manga, it is surprisingly popular. That says quite a lot about it.

Incredible ending.
I'd even say best ever, but I'm sure that's just the rush of emotion talking.

Anno really loves using the Hallelujah Chorus

You have inspired me!

Diebuster 1

This... isn't really Gunbuster.

IwnTS.jpg

Why would you do this?

In fact, it reminds me more of FLCL, which I guess reflects the period when it was produced.

qzNFu.jpg

Look, it's Haruko's scooter!

This gives me a pretty different vibe from the 80's motivational cheese of Gunbuster. The art is wonderfully expressive and vibrant, and I love Gainax's style of animation at this time. They never could have made something that looked like this before. But I feel like the visual storytelling in this episode was at its strongest in the pre-title card sequence up to Nono's job.

I don't like Nono. Maybe I'm being unfair by comparing it to Gunbuster, but she's a weird caricature of Noriko. She talks about hard work and guts while not really doing much of anything. And (perhaps as a symptom of how things have changed in the 20 years since Gunbuster) she's presented in a rather... different way than anybody was in this show's predecessor.

pYUpJ.jpg

Many things have changed in the future, but not the allure of maid waitresses.

I do like it a lot, but it's not really a sequel, at least in terms of tone. Gainax was a different studio in the 80s then they are here, and the show reflects that. It's a nicer aesthetic, but while I felt like Gunbuster tried to ground itself in something resembling actual society with something resembling human characters, everything here is more in service to the spectacle.

CWayZ.jpg

It's some nice spectacle, though.

It's a pretty exciting start, but I'm not sure if I'm getting as much from it. It's definitely too early to make firm judgments about the show.

Well... yeah, now I see that I've read too much into that expression and taken the most literal of its interpretations as a guide. Sorry wonzo (and everyone)! I shouldn't have commenced this discussion in here...
I just want to see with the utmost respect the opinion of anyone, as it is a good right to have, and if the (so apparent) majority of people like a show I don't, or not in the same way... then so be it, I'm not going to blame their judgment.

We can just all hug it out.

I actually like it when discussions like these pop-up!

Shit getting real.

Kanna's gonna pull a Nice Boat ending with the way things are going for her

Ichika is the clear weak link in this show and that's pretty unfortunate, especially considering how awesome Kaito is by comparison.

I would really like to pick up Naoki Urasawa's Monster on DVD, but I do not want to just have the first fifteen episodes and then...nothing more. I know I could buy all of the episodes digitally, but I would rather have a physical copy.

I have read that Viz has no plans to release any more DVD box sets, so am I pretty much out of luck in seeing more of the series on DVD? I would completely support and purchase a limited edition run of the complete series, but I do not see that occurring.

Way too early! Stick with it, fellas.

I watch things slowly, but I'm definitely not bailing. Even if this winds up being 50% of FLCL, that'd still make it pretty awesome in my eyes. FLCL is my favorite show of all time.

You know the projects have the same director right? And some shared staff in general.

I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me in the least, especially given some of the explicit callouts to that show in the first episode alone.

I think if I put the Gunbuster comparisons out of my head, I'll enjoy it more going forward.

Hellsing OVA 9

Yep, it sure is Hellsing alright. It's just as ridiculously gory, convoluted, over the top and cheesy as it's ever been.

just think of the possibilities with the Vita touchscreen and the rear touchpad!

Cant believe this seasons almost down. A shame they fell on to a predictable plot development
ie not having a serialization until the third meeting
, but it was still epic. I think right up there with Sket Dance for my favorite ~long-running series as of late. Saiko had nice poses, and nice One Piece love.

I consider animeGAF to be like a great dysfunctional family, we should all totally take a bath together.

it doesn't look anywhere near as poorly upscaled as the first couple of OVA's did so i'd say it looks even better!

Wow, inadvertently you just brought to mind how long it's been since I've started watching/ or seen any of those OVAs. I own...the third volume, I think, on dvd. The thought of HD hadn't even crossed my mind, lol.

Another solid episode. Decent progression, I got my second MARU! dosage of the week, and not to mention dat Remon trolling and the ending was good. I'm really looking forward to the end of this series because I have a lot of faith that it'll end well. It's just pleasant.

You can flutterblush with us too as we all hold hands.

Taking a break from a show where the characters think they don't have friends, to one where they know they have nakamas.

Persona 4 19
JBtXA.jpg

It's just a long meaningful gaze.
So, fun episode involving the culture festival and blah, blah, blah. I like how they choose the less terrible Sun social link and I guess completely ignore the existence of the other girl. And, by cramming it all into a chunk of the episode, they made it slightly more enjoyable than having to deal with it over the course of 10+ events. I do like how Daisuke since they decided to go for the other guy and they added more Lovers social link but I was hoping that Rise's persona would evolve from that.

Good episode. I like how the relationships are working out right now,
Kanna forever alone lool. The use of the haircut plot device was acceptable in this case I think. Depends on that Mio develops from this point on.

Is Princess Jellyfish decent? I'm itching for new anime on Bluray and it looks refreshingly different.
It's a very good show, deff. worth checking out.

edit: i'm pretty sure it's still up for streaming on youtube or funi's own website so you could check it out there
