If you don't already watch anime, you won't get a lot of stuff in Steins;Gate. That alone makes it purely for people who are already fans of anime.

I was going to recommend it to my sister who is extremely picky about anime until I realized that I'd have to explain to her what 2chan, Akibahara, maid cafes, cosplay, that Ackbar word you can't say on GAF, dating sims, and 2D waifus were before she could watch it. Based on her very limited experience with anime she would think it's hentai.

In One Piece's early stages?

Funny, I started really considering dropping several times in the late stages.

Obviously not everyone feels this way, but the end of Arabasta made me less likely to drop it even if the quality would dip a bit here and there. Really only had to tough it through Skypiea and Davy Back Fight because after that it just kept getting better and better.

Remember that time I messed up posts and called One Piece a furry show because I mixed up my posts with Inu x Boku SS?

OP still has furries, albeit completely tasteful, non-sexual ones
that are actually just humans with a special power to transform

Inazuma Eleven 43 - 55

Ahh Inazuma, one of the few shows that makes time fly by. None of the episodes so far were as good as 18 or 26 but the arc has had its high points. I stopped on the episode of a new opening, one part was ridiculous even for Inazuma so I had to gif it.

My fault, the gifs have trained my eye to relate them closely with Black Rock Shooter...

I wish there was even more honestly. Would give me more reason to pay attention to the show.

Symphogear 8: Friendships renewed with Hibiki and Miku and new ones forged with Miku and Chris. I can see that wholesome threesome already. There was pretty derp scene with Miku and Hibiki on the bench. Lol art quality. If only the budget for this show a bit higher for the action scenes at least. Chris's armed gear is still pretty cool.

Nise 5: The Kaiki scene was cool (I thought he was drinking out of a candle at first, damn that would of been boss). I do like his money focused villainy, it's simple and discrete. I kind of doubt they'll explore what he'll actually do with it but it's a direct enough goal to make this guy fit his role. I was looking forward to Karen punching the dude but I guess he's not really a regular person despite being just human. Hanekawa with that godlike tease. The feeling of being a lottery winner given and stripped away in an instant. Amazing. Then we get to some sibling bonding. Oh Shaft. Other than the Kaiki scene, there wasn't that much of the usual banter though the initial Tsukihi/Koyomi bit was amusing enough.

I don't think intimate knowledge with any of this is required in order to get something positive out of Steins;Gate, or to understand the plot at large.

Inserting characters in specifically to hurry character relationships on is an interesting contrast to the usual 'have character relationships move at an Ah! My Goddess' pace. I'm not saying it's necessarily better, but it is far more entertaining.

One Piece 1

I don't intend to dig too deep into this series, given what I've heard about its eventual drop off in quality. (There were already a couple moments which dragged just a tiny bit too long, such as Luffy's reveal.) But I have no problem with watching 40 or so episodes for cosmic's sake. If I like it enough by that point I'll probably switch over to the manga.

Anyway, this is a pleasant enough start to a boys' adventure story. Luffy is an energetic, optimistic character and the pirates on the high seas setting is fun. As was the case with Toriko, this is not the most gripping first episode I've seen, but I know it'll develop into more as it goes on.

It's actually the opposite, it keeps getting better with every arc, with the later arcs being better then the early ones and the characters really grow on you.

ALI PROJECT can do decent songs if they don't do OMGHYPERLETSTALKFAST singing. Cf. Pastel Pure from Marimite S2.

EDIT: oops, I thought you guys were talking about the ANOTHER OP. Nevermind.

The Japanese Internet service provider BIGLOBE posted the results of a February survey about which anime series fans consider the most overrated; this is the top 10:

1. Madoka Magica
2. AnoHana
3. K-ON!
4. Bakemonogatari/Nisemonogatari
5. OreImo
6. Infinite Stratos
7. Raildex
8. Fate/Zero
9. STEINS;GATE
10. Angel Beats

CAN I BE ANN NOW

At least they got #1 & #2 right. Bakemonogatari should be #3 though, and K-ON! should be all the way at the bottom of the list.

Wow, haters are gonna hate I guess. I really liked the Steins;Gate OP song and animation.

In unrelated news, filament (the second Mirai Nikki ED) is really awesome.
Come at me, bros!

Steins;Gate OP is pretty cool, but c'mon.

Certainly; it just creates uncomfortable questions for people who are uninitiated into otaku culture. For me personally, I'd have to explain why I know all of this stuff to begin with, and I kind of like my family and friends not thinking that I'm totally depraved, hah.

Not equating knowledge of otaku culture with depravity, of course.
