Watching the Malice at the Palace, it's funny how the typical power-tripping officials completely shit themselves in a situation where they should have assumed control by ejecting both Artest and Wallace.

Further evidence that NBA officials are terrible human beings who deserve gruesome deaths.

The officials were Tommy Nunez Jr and Tim Donaghey. Neither of them "power-tripping" officials and both push-overs.

There was a quote in the Grantland article saying that Joey Crawford would've controlled the situation. I think that's correct.

The Capcom fighting tournament controversy made me think and aim the microscope at BESTgaf and I have a few thoughts.

-WHAT THE HELL ARE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT?
-Homophobia isn't tolerated
-Misogyny generally isn't tolerated
-Racism isn't tolerated if you're not from Spain
-No personal attacks are made against those who don't give up personal info.
-most everyone is judged by the things they post
-trashtalk here is much more tame than shit you'd encounter playing a pick up game in certain places.
-Its hardly a boys club, though almost all members I assume are male. (Whats up female lurkers, start posting!)
-At the end of the day the harshest shit said in here is in jest.

Naw TCB, its an issue. Yelling "GET RAPED BITCH" is like... not publicly acceptable.

I love it but yeah... its there. So is casual racism and shit. "Black guy? he's gonna pick a rushdown character and never block LOL"

Aside from **********, shout out to LS, it didn't go well last time because "PICS DERP" just flows so well from the fingertips.

And she defended Donald Sterling, which was just lol but people have said/done dumber things here.

Begging for pics is pathetic, I see how it would be funny at first but it was a go-to joke for the humorless.

Getting bombed on for defending Sterling is deserved. Plus we all know it was just Dream's alt.

SRK and Dustloop aren't welcoming in the slightest and I've been a member of both for years now. Same with the streams. They're nothing but troll infested shit wells. The actual competitors and commentators are great though.

Proto-dream was fun.

But yeah, pics is just... I'm all for taking shots at whoever comes through the door, just be do each party a favor (them, and us) by being creative with it.

Eurotrash! = bad. stupid. just... tastless
Ricky Rubio, Racist of The Year = *golfclap*

The timing couldn't have been more perfect. Several articles were written about Sterling's racism and love for Koreans around the same time she started posting.

Yeah, it exists, but I think the point Aris was making was very salient: when you take away the openness of the FGC, it stops being the FGC.

As you guys know, I've been to tons of tournaments. And one of the most interesting things across various games is to see the differences between the communities. And let me tell you this: the fighting game scene and all its subdivisions (I'm including smash because they are culturally pretty similar) are the tightest knit of all.

Outside of team houses, professional PC games are very much a personal endeavor. The vast majority of interaction is made online, and its pretty anonymous. FG culture developed from guys going to arcades/each other's houses almost every day and hanging out. People NEED each other to get better, and things like regional rivalries make people really close. There is slang, inside jokes, and whatnot and it'll come out on stream, but once you know the context of it all, its a lot more reasonable.

Telling people to not talk shit or to calm down the language in a Fighting Game tournament is like trying to host a rap battle on The Tonight Show. It just doesn't make any sense.

So we agree then? SRK is a terrible website full of trolls and bad players. Most stream monsters don't even play the game.

The actual community (i.e. the people who are at the tournaments) is really cool tho.

The whole ordeal is kind of sad. It cant be tolerated much longer because they want the community to grow, they want the prices to get bigger and they want esports to be a relevant thing.

You cant want all those things and yell RAPE RAPE RAPE on the streams and pretend its OK.

I understand, and to a degree I like, the notion of "you dont get respect here until youve earned it" but dont use that mantra to drive people out of the community when those people in particular dont engage in that kind of behavior. Talking shit is one thing, derogatory speech and bullying is another.

For the most part it sounds like a bunch of whiny teenagers not being allowed to sit at the adults table and yelling SKULLFUCK THAT BITCH UP HER ASS at the same time. Like good old NBA GAF says, you can have one, but not both!

I have nothing against shit talking, 90% of my posts are shittalking.

But removing the misogynist aspect shouldn't be met with resistance. Why in the hell is that worth preserving? I don't think you should remove shittalking, especially amongst friends. If my friends wants to tell me to eat a dick after I beat his ass he's free to, just like I'm sure he's cool with me getting in his face and singing choice lines from "Incarcerated Scarfaces".

I agree, kinda. But when you're trying to grow a community, you need to change. Its not a clubhouse anymore.

"If the black community is allowed to vote, this wont be America anymore"

Assholes in 2012:

"If were not allowed to act like sexist assholes, this wont be the fighting game community anymore"

Its gaming in general

Yeah.

But that whole cross assault push is just meh IMO.

What happened?

I love playing a game and getting riggity raw like anyone else, if the gf and I play a game of SF and I dominate she totally expects me to throw down my controller and lead whoevers around to join me in chanting the chorus to Lil b's "Wonton Soup"

But thats not really socially acceptable. Got to carry yourself with some sense in public.

The misogyny in the fighting game community seems small time compared to the shit you hear in FPS games.

Thats online only, the whole point of contention is that this is happening in venues with 50+ people.

You play halo online, you can hit mute, ignore the trolls and play. You go to a tournament in an arcade and youre a female, you cant really mute the people saying you should be raped because you lost

The first month or so of the PS3 era was a haven. Having convos with other well adjusted adults about Rainbow6 and wasting money on a 600$ machine with almost no library of games.

It was fantastic.

The larger gaming community(loosely used) generally has a problem with relating to women. I'd like to think it's the an age matter, but it's hard to ignore with how the majority of women are portrayed in video games.

I'm know the NBA or sport fans get the same perception.

I agree, kinda. But when you're trying to grow a community, you need to change. Its not a clubhouse anymore.

a) you're never going to get a bunch of dudes in their 20s and 30s hanging out playing video games (usually under the influence) to act the same as people in the PC game communities. Its just never going to happen.

b) the main reason FOR the community's growth is the drama and characters it brings. Most stream monsters have no idea what is going on in the actual game.

c) mic up any NBA game. Listen to the voice chat of any PC game. Competitive dudes say disrespectful things. The only reason the FGC gets so much flak is because they are so open about showing their people. Floe is a god damn celebrity. People know his personality. You'd get the exact same result in other communities if that openness didn't exist.

Stream monsters are always hilarious when they see a female pass by.

It's like their dicks are getting wet for the first time. PICS OR GTFO

TITS LULZ

I'D HIT THAT

Millsap and Raja are going to be out tonight which means that the young players will actually play but also probably another loss, but that's not that bad...Which team would like Al Jefferson for the low price of an expiring contract and a late first-round pick?

Or when Ricky is on stream.

uuugghhh

nightmares for days

I'm bored so I'm searching through old game clips on youtube. I came across the Jordan clip of him nailing a free throw with his eyes closed, the man is the epitome of swag.

Jordan <3

Anyone else have some favorite swag moments?
MJ 's running the Bobcats with his eyes closed

i love youtube comments sometimes

hahaha, you couldn't have picked a better follow up clip. Bravo.

Normally this is where DM would follow up and post a video of Kobe doing something stupid.

The overall point is if you want stuff like FGTV or cross assault, where there are literally cameras filming top players 24/7, and you don't want them to RESTRICT their personalities, then they will likely say some offensive shit. The FGC is more akin to reality TV than anything, and the thing that makes those shows successful is the drama (shit, cross assault IS a reality show). If reality TV stars were politically correct all the time, then no one would watch reality TV.

I'm not saying its NICE or COOL to say mean things, but that you shouldn't stop people from being douches when your entire business model is based around drama.
