Now, I'm just confused.
I'm liking the anime just fine thus far, haven't seen any reason to drop it.

Unless people are trying to hint at me a sudden turn for the worst.

Don't drop it.

Just keep watching and ignore what other people are saying. You just said something related to the manga that people get worked up about.

There are plenty of shows where once you know what happens next and at the end, there isn't any reason to watch it again. The experience of the first time watching it was what made it worth it, once that's gone, it's gone and you can't ever get it back.
I know, and it sucks.
Once you've made it through Madoka, you have no choice other than resorting to reading fan comics about
Homura trying to steal Madoka's pantsu
like the rest of us. It's not such a bad fate.
I have entirely too many of those on my computer.

I personally think people who insinuate things about the Usagi Drop anime should be banned.

Ignore everyone; they're just being idiots.

Don't drop it.

These.

As far as some of us concerned, the anime stands alone. Just ignore the people who love to troll on it.

I like how this girl is hanging all over Kou's dick now.

CALIBRATIONS.

5 Centimeters Per Second

I've got The Place Promised on the Instant Queue and it sort of prompted me to reflect on when I watched 5 Centimeters a while back. I ended up watching it twice, just to listen to both dubs. The story structure is captivating, its fairly nuanced in its presentation and the film is a visually stunning array of locales and scenery. I have to say though, I feel like in order to get maximum value out of it is to, at one point, have been in a serious relationship. There were no manly tears on my end, no swelling of emotions, just nothing. I wouldn't argue with someone if they put it on their Top 10 for greatest anime films list. I think I liked it more for the imagery than the story itself.

No it's more like you have to have been in
what you thought was a serious relationship when you were a dumb, naive kid.

Ano Natsu de Matteru 8

The climax was incredibly contrived, but incredibly exciting all the same.

Having a chessmaster character such as Remon around actually helps make the contrived nature of some of these events more palatable, as you can easily see her carefully manipulating everything for some unknown agenda of her own.

No it's more like you have to have been in
what you thought was a serious relationship when you were a dumb, naive kid.
Well, even then I think someone who had a relationship severed by
time and distance
would find empathy for the characters, which is mostly the point I was trying to make.

I am both offended also ashamed.

Hades Project Zeorymer: Volume 1 of 2

Project 01:

Okay, so this show doesn't waste any time getting into the... plot? They pretty much just had a confusing fifteen second moment of him being captured before jumping into the exposition vomiting "intro" that plays at the start of each episode. Seriously, this was the best way to set up the world and events? Okay, if you say so, show.
The quick version of the intro is some group in China (never really explained if it's gov or some rebel group) makes eight robots, someone betrays them and steals the Zeorymer of the Heavens to Japan, fifteen years pass, and they've regrouped, rebuilt, and ready to kick Japan's butt for it to take over the world. Yup.

The main protagonist is Masato Akitsu, and he'll be sure to tell the audience that again. And again. And again. Augh! Also, it's said very early on that the Zeorymer can only be piloted by a duo, which I thought was kind of interesting, but it hasn't mattered at all so far. I only mention this, since one of the people that kidnap him at the start is his "partner" Miku Himuro. They kind of hint at them possibly being siblings at one point. Wait. Wait. Siblings? Then what about the (nsfw) weird, naked scene from the intro?! OH GOSH, WHAT AM I WATCHING!?

Anyways, the first episode pretty much bums every conceivable idea from other mech show protagonists and forces it onto Masato. It makes no sense, but I loved it, hahahaa. After being kidnapped, the parents that adopted him come by to say "good luck, we're being paid off to not care about you anymore." Also, we see the BEST character in the show. SUNGLASSES MAN! I don't know his name, but I'll be darned if he doesn't leave an impression. What a badass.

Masato manages to escape and... fall right into their planned escape trap to get him to the Zeorymer in their underground base? Okay, sure.

While all of this has been going on, the.... uh, the bad guy group (I don't remember their name, something Dragons) is ready to take back the Zeorymer. They're almost something straight out of a ps1 rpg or something. Or power rangers. I love that none of them want to fight together to get back this legendarily powerful mech, but decide that it's best to do it one at a time until they're successful. The queen lady, Yuratei, picks the guy she's currently doing some (nsfw) naked wrestling with to go into the sure-death fight for it. Yep, good thinking. She made it sound like she had no choice, but something was either lost in translation, or just not written well to begin with.

I'm kind of ashamed I didn't really screenshot the fights, since they were the best looking part of the show, but Masato ends up getting into the mech and fights the bad guy man. Apparently, the Sunglasses Man had locked him in a prison cell and all the other stuff he did with the intent of making him angry enough to kill? Okay... I guess that's one way of doing it. You know, you might could have just explained things to him.

Anyways, Masato wins after going Jeckyl and Hyde on the guy, and the Yuratei is sad nobody will be coming back to have sex with her while her servants are in the room. Aww, shucks. She declares she will go face the Zeorymer next, as she used to be a mech pilot, and the Zeorymer was originally going to be hers. Well, until next episode starts and that declaration is completely forgotten, haha.

Project 02:

This episode is about the obligatory evil-twins of the badguys! They sure do fight well, but they just can't seem to get along! Will they resolve their problems and learn to love each other, despite their differences? Will Masato get kidnapped again? Will sunglasses still look freaking hardcore? Let's see!

So, the two twin ladies have this super-ultimate-destroys-everything-attack that they're working on to defeat the Zeorymer with. However, it seems that if they're not perfectly in-sync, they could get hurt! Uh oh! You know what that means! ...arguing naked in the bath, flagrantly waving your hardened nipples around, then getting into a tussle with the naked man that walked in and made a remark about their twinness!

Masato and Miku talk about how they're apparently test tube babies, created solely to pilot the Zeorymer. And destiny stuff. Masato was stolen by Albert Wesker fifteen years ago after he destroyed the place they built the mechs, and... yeah. I guess that's that. Well, until he gets kidnapped by the twins! Hooray!

Who ya gonna call? Sunglasses and Miku have devised a plan to get him back. Yuratei tells him some back story, and... we learn nothing new. It's pretty much everything we already knew. BUT! MIKU SHOWS UP, GUNS BLAZING, AND KICKS SOME BUTT! YEAH!

But, yeah, it's mech fight time. Once again, totally forgot to screenshot this stuff, since it was the best looking part of the episode again. Masato goes alternate personality, after saying he couldn't fight because of "oh no, people are in those mechs, and people are in the city!" Well, they completely drop that, and he eradicates the twins. They finally got over their problems, and they hug each other as they turn to dust.

NEXT EPISODE! Fighting the bad guy who wears a mask and armor and stuff!
There had better be sunglasses and more Triss Miku!

I don't think it has to have been a romantic relationship. A childhood friend and I have been growing further and further apart over the years, and the movie dialed right into that.

The facial expressions are still blowing my mind. I need more shows like this to watch.

That's a good point. There seems to be something there for everyone in the film. As indifferent as I was, I think the second arc drew the most empathy from me.

So watched the first 4 eps of Milky holmes.

And people say precure makes you feel dumb?

I'm getting a moe 3 stooges vibe.

Still... not really hating it ;/

It's a comedy series, not a magical girl show. It's nothing like Precure.

Also, it's good to great, so you shouldn't be hating it.

woo blasted through season 1 of Milky Holmes!

WTF IS GOING ON IN SEASON 2? It's like the cut the chains of sanity. My brain is doing cart wheels!

And why are there some really good animation sequences in this show? It's like inception levels of ... trolling? No clue. I assume those people are having a blast making this.
The bits of different animation or art styles seen sometimes in the series make things different and often funnier, I'd say. It is often good stuff, yeah.

Moretsu Pirates - 2 & 3

It's moving really slow but I don't think it's as bad as some of the reactions here paint it to be. Episode 2 was totally forgettable but I thought episode 3 wasn't too bad. They did a good job of portraying how incredible it is to step into space for your first time.

Having Hanazawa helps too. Those glasses and dat voice, man.
I know I've said it repeatedly, but the people calling it bad are wrong! :)

(Sort of like I was saying about Key, people who dislike it clearly just don't like this kind of show. I do. I definitely like the Star Trek TV serieses, for example.)

It isn't bad if you get to watch it consecutively, but watching that week by week makes it feel horribly paced. It took 5 weeks for anything significant to even happen.
The pacing within the episodes is often slow, but it's compelling and works well. The main problem I have is that so many of the episodes leave me wanting to see the next episode now, not in a whole nother week... it's kind of frustrating, but in a good way. :)

And of course, eps 2-5 is my favorite part of the show so far.

http://www.animeanime.biz/all/122292/

Looks like the Pac-Man anime is going to be a "big deal" for Bandai Namco. This is really kinda weird and fucked up. They're going full steam ahead with a 26 episode full season of a Pac Man CG animation series for 2013. The show will have an insane budget of 600,000 USD per episode. Avi Arad is the adviser for Bandai Namco Holdings on this project, while the show's producer is Rick Ungar, and the writers on the show are Tom Ruegger and Paul Rugg.

Why? Why is this happening? What is possessing them??
That's ... odd. Why do we need a Pac-Man CG series, now? I would have low expectations for sure as well...

Only the second has resealable wrap, but they both look pretty good:

Such a deceptive package there, particularly for the second one... that might con some people who don't know better into buying it because they think it's a giant robot movie, or something. Mere fools they...

Yeah, it really does. BD certainly can improve quality of film prints versus DVD.

Samurai Champloo: 1

Again, with family. Which is perfect timing, really, as I had planned to dust this off again before Apollon. This show does not get old. Watanabe is the master of broship--The nudges/asshole remarks, so good. As was the general direction; it would have gotten old had Watanabe(both story-boarded and directed this ep) kept it throughout the series, and fast, but I'd argue that the vinyl-scratch allowed him to make cuts that otherwise would have been absolutely horrible. It'd be interesting hear of a method that would allow for the freedom comparable, but not become an annoying gimmick after an episode or two. Also, to call back to a point made on Cowboy Bebop in here a long while back, he did employ the first-person perspective here too--towards the end, during the coin flip. Another debut ep. Bets Apollon uses it in the first ep?

Hakugei - Legend of the Moby Dick 1

ityqDqPfQy00W.jpg

Been meaning to give this a look for some time now. Another Dezaki adaption of classic literature that piqued my interest, although this adaption is obviously much more liberal with the source material compared to Takarajima. Basically its Moby Dick but set in space and the whales are giant abandoned space ships.

Some fairly detailed and varied art to be found in the first episode, although some shots look a bit too cluttered and muddied up. The use of shadows and lighting was particularly compelling as it really sold some of the scenes, especially in the 2nd half of the episode. Ahab himself reminds me a lot of John Silver, but much darker and more intimidating. The art combined with his VA often give off hints of insanity hiding behind his demeanor, which make his interactions in the episode quite interesting.

The narrative was slightly confusing to follow at first due to some POV shifting early on, but it evens out once Ahab and his crew are introduced. The whole opening is a bit weird honestly and probably could have been put off for another episode or even the end of this episode. Opening with Lucky Luck and his search for Ahab would have made more sense.

It was so bad, it became good honestly.

Exactly.

Huh. I haven't heard of Bokurano until now. The wiki description of it seems kinda interesting.

Is it worth checking out?
Do you like apocalyptic tragedy action shows starring little kids?

K-On was at least self-aware enough to make a joke about pantyshots, which makes it not-not aware at all at a minimum.
Self-aware, or "wanting to not show any in order to pretend to be classier", to give the cynical explanation?

No, just watch Shadow Star Narutaru instead. It's kind of like Pokemon.

And then read the manga if that doesn't satiate you!

I really dislike this kind of false advertising stuff... watching Narutaru if you want to is fine, but I think it's better if people know going in what kind of show it actually is, and it's certainly not what you say there. That's one dark, dark series.

Terribly so. Another reason, I hold no faith in humans and the poor taste MAN supports so openly.
What, do you mean me there? If so, I don't have bad taste, everyone else does! :)

This is what I said. More Green attack for the eyes please, people watching Smile Precure! Moar!

What, are you saying I should watch the show too? I haven't watched Precure, apart from a couple of episodes of HeartCatch (and a movie or two, I believe); they were okay, but certainly nothing great.

I've been rewatching this recently. I'm up to ep. 11 or 12, and yeah, it's still a really good series. As a history person though, I can't help but be annoyed by all of the ways it ignores history. I know they don't care -- they say so at the beginning of ep. 1 after all -- but ... I can't help but be annoyed anyway. :) Apart from that it's really good, however.

I can't believe that show got licensed. Yet whenever I go to Best Buy it's right there on the shelf, scantily clad underaged vampire and all.

If we live in a world with Strike Witches on store shelves it's only inevitable I suppose.

Glass Fleet: The Legend of the Wind of the Universe 7

"Those are the wings of an angel." - Cleo of the Wind

indeed,
the revelation that michel was actually a woman posing as her dead brother is truly the kind of shocking twist that only a show like glass fleet could deliver.

The galaxy in revolution. Renaissance.

What, do you mean me there? If so, I don't have bad taste, everyone else does! :)

Oh no, wasn't talking about you. I was speaking of the non-believers. lol

Comeawn mayne, look at my avatar!
*which I only changed recently*

I meant more green transformation screenshots. I have yet to check it out myself.

Magic girl has never been my style, but I also haven't watched one in a looong time. So I'm pretty open to putting one on my list now.

On that note, from the Roman Album: Samurai Champloo (PG. 46),

Q: While some areas are historically accurate, there is always something a little off....

A (Watanabe): You have to do the research if you want to lie with confidence [laughs]. There are times when you do research to make something interesting, but then you'd get so attached to the accuracy that it ends up binding you, and the end product isn't that interesting at all. I've done a lot of science-fiction work. Rules need to be followed.

But, that's why in Episode 1 we included the announcement, "Just shut up and watch." There will be lies, so don't complain [laughs]. One example would be food. We started out showing the Edo food as it really was, but we then wanted to show things like oko-nomiyaki, and just threw the research away[laughs].

Q: You never did hire a research staff.

A (Watanabe): I made a concious decision not to. If you hire an expert on history, they're not going to like it when libirties are taken. For instance, Episode 20 takes place close to Fukuoka, so we had no problem having them eat Hakata-style ramen. If we had asked an expert if it was okay to serve ramen to the characers during this time period, he would have blown his top[laughs]...

Usagi Drop 6 - 8.5

Man, it really stinks that it feels like I'm burning through this. Gonna start pacing it out from here on. Still enjoying the intro art style and I haven't skipped the OP or ED. They're just nice to listen to and watch.
Story wise it's unraveling more or less as I'd expect. I still
think not so highly of Rin's mom
, but they've illustrated their suffering too.
I can only wonder how/if they'll expand of Daichi
getting dat Kouki's mom ass
with only 3 eps left. Anyways, good stuff.

Just ignore the manga and you will be fine.

There's nothing wrong with the manga, I encourage Ultimadrago to read it after he has finished the anime.
HjgT6.jpg

I'll need to think about this...

Don't think. There is no manga. Usagi Drop is an original work.

I highly recommend the spinoff Live Action movie though. firehawk will vouch for me.

Why... lol, why are you stopping in the middle of the eps to write your post? I noticed it in your last one.

How could a series like Ro-Kyu-Bu be considered overrated? Nobody thinks it's even remotely enjoyable
except for myself.
Oh there's a few of us Ro-Kyu-Bu! fans around. I know I've spent at least $1000 on it.
But I'm more of a responder than a topic-starter so if no one else is talking about it...
Plus the idea of expressing my love for that show here makes me feel like a squeeling Twilight fangirl trying to participate in GAF's "What are you reading?" thread.

Usagi Drop 6 - 8.5

I'll need to think about this...

No need to falter, just think of it as a continuation of the journey. I mean, I don't think you can derive anything diabolical out of something like Usagi Drop. It was number 2 in the anime of the year thread after all.

To prevent any more confusion, I'll just say the Usagi Drop manga goes in a direction that not everyone is receptive to. The problem is 90% of the people complaining about it haven't actually read it and only know what happens. Not to say they would change their opinion if they did read it, but it's something to keep in mind.

It's your choice whether to continue or not, but I'd advise against spoiling yourself either way.

Thanks for the clarity. I think I'll just concern myself with "whether or not" later and just enjoy the anime for now.
