Temporary Football Thread l OT7 l The real thread will be appointed after the Euro's.

Tho i dunno whether the thread title can have so many characters.

No, I don't think it's tactical it's just a group of players who play together at club level transporting that core to the national team. Typically national teams are disjointed in their approach because players don't normally play with each other. Spain basically has the Barca midfield.

End of the day the current Barca team is full of midgets but midgets who work to win the wall back. I have seen no team apart from Chelsea actually up their fitness level and physically boss them off the park.

People forget just how piss poor Spain were in the early stages of the World Cup.

there are many national teams that have a club side core though. the reason clubs "haven't done it" other than chelsea is that people have tried it and failed. the most effectively strategy is simply to sit deep and let them come at you.

as for spain, well, spain don't have the best player in the world who also happens to play for barca, so their attack isn't nearly as sharp as barca's (they're also more cautious, though not as much as some people claim).

We did the exact opposite last season and constantly pressed them up and stressed their play, especially Puyol ended up with lots of failed passings. We lost 2-0 in Barcelona, after having hit the crossbar when it was still 1-0 and then throwing everything up in the last minutes. Got a 1-1 at home where Valdes and Alves should have been off, so it can work, even with a team from fucking Denmark, Guardiola even said :

"If we had not played well, we would have been over run. In the two plus years that I have been Barca coach I have not found a team as intense and physical as this."

I really think too many teams are too afraid of Barca. Show them less respect and have a go at them.

None of those were even really disputable, none of them - except one in the 1st half (against Abidal) was a penalty IMHO. The rest of the decisions in regards to the other appeals were spot on.

:lol

The two handballs and the Drogba shirt pull were certain penalties. The others were less clear-cut. As much as I dislike Chelsea, they were shat on that night.

Rumours suggest it could be Dave Jones and Mick McCarthy duking it out for our managers job. Two Wolves old boys. I suspect the manager will already have been in place before Megson left last night but be interesting to see who it is.

Mick would be amusing, can't see it though.

I have a suggestion for the board title
Football Thread 2011/12 |OT7| "We" don't know what club you're talking about when you say "we or our".

But seriously, I like McCarthy what club do you mean?

Don't worry child, Sherlock's on the case. Notice the allusions to a Megson, probably of the nomenclature Gary. His username is Wednesday, possibly pointing to a love of midweek, perhaps a famous sports team.

That was my first thought actually. But surely Mick can't be interested in a league one club. No offense.

Depends on the variables. We are still a big club. We had an attendance of over 36,000 for a third division match at the weekend which is more than Molyneux even holds. He went to Wolves when they were struggling in The Championship from International management so he has "stepped down" before. He's a Yorkshire lad and there's a huge opportunity for a manager to become a hero at this club if he achieves what we all want. Promotion.

Not really a case of just saying "wouldn't manage at League One" although I do think its a long shot and do expect for us to appoint Dave Jones (who would also be stepping down a division).

Holland looking good, played really good football tonight.

England once again...just what is the gameplan? I don't see it. It's so...just...empty.

Hope Smalling is okay and hopefully Young gains confidence from his goal.

I have to be honest, I don't think England were as bad as everybody is making out.

they were both awful, guys. the only difference was that dutch had robben and england had, uh... YOUNG.

the english should be really worried about deservedly losing to a below average dutch side.

2 goals and 1 assist from the names you mentioned.

i concede that robben was good. in fact, he was the best player on the pitch.

kuyt is still awful, though. he always manages to either score a goal or give an assist when he's playing for the dutch even though his performance is always mediocre at best (seriously!)--and that must probably be why he's still in the starting lineup.

I highly doubt that the reasoning is that simple.

There are a lot of reasons Kuyt would be a good choice for any team. He's got an incredible engine and work rate, decent pace and great movement, and he never gives up. He's also very strong defensively so you can rely on him to protect your right back if he's easily caught off guard. He can go the 90 minutes and then some without any trouble and rarely gets injured, which is nice because you won't to worry about his area of the pitch weakening as the game goes on. He's not a brilliant footballer, but he's a good one, and he's good enough for the Dutch NT.

I just saw the first half and the beginning of the second and it seemed to me that the Dutch were not even giving it their all, like they were playing at 50%, Sneijder and Robben were strolling around, jogging and not even trying to take on the English defenders and not even going full tilt and England were at 100% and still struggling to break them open. Once the Netherlands decided to start playing they immediately scored 2 goals. I just stopped watching at went to sleep after that.

He actually went from Ireland to a Premier League job. For about 2 months

And let's not forget the Dutch had a very strong team out compared to an England team full of novices in vital positions. Or would that not play into 'england bashing lol'?

everyone always praises his work ethic, but at the end of the day, he is a FOOTBALLER.

when three of the forwards are technically proficient, and there's this one guy on the right who does fuck all but run around a lot and defend (at one point, he was a centre defender for a couple of minutes, for no reason whatsoever), it really sticks out. his technical skills are terrible, his passing is downright embarrassing, for a right winger, he gives very few crosses; he's useless in the dutch starting eleven. his incompetence doesn't really stick out when he's playing for liverpool because, well, you know. no offence!

besides, robben's work ethic was better and he had more interceptions. plus, he's not entirely useless when he has the ball.

I've always had a lot of respect for Mick. I'm too young to remember his playing days but he did a lot of good work as Irelands manager.

We had a decent run in the 2002 World Cup and Mick takes huge credit for that. Things went downhill after that and we had some very bad defeats which led to Mc Carthy leaving.

I always widh him the best when he takes up a new job though.

Of more concern to them should be his performance. He was utter crap in his half hour yesterday and even worse in the League Cup final. His 'Hollywood' balls are becoming embarrassing.

Barely got on the ball playing up front for England for half an hour, and 92% of ~100 passes doesn't suggest many 'Hollywood' balls were attempted in the league cup final either. Though his shooting was crap.

He's started 5 league games this season and hadn't played for England in a long while before yesterday. Played 2 hours on Sunday and may have picked up another injury, shouldn't have played. I don't think it's surprising he wasn't captain for that one.

Oh SHIT. My room mate, trying to help out with the cleaning. Put my jerseys in a tumble dryer. :/ This is going to get ugly.
