This is probably a bit old for you guys, and it doesn't have any moe in it, but I've been enjoying this show quite a bit thus far. I'm about 1/3 of the way through it now (it's 50 episodes in total).
Has a good mix of action, drama and comedy in it. Also, if you've heard of/seen City Hunter, this anime is kind of an alternate timeline that has the same characters in it.

I actually preferred Yozora at first but Sena completely won me over about halfway through.

Yozora would be better than Sena if they hadn't made her a one-dimensional bitch envious of Sena's tits. She obviously has some mental issues that would be fun to explore, but instead the show decided to make her as unlikable as possible while taking the cheap way out with Sena by making her a closet eroge addict and lolicon on top of the fanservice

I think you're expecting a bit much out of Haganai. Archetypes are never actually delved into in these kinds of animu, man. All that's there for us to do is to pick a side, and go to war.

Honestly thought that was more bittersweet than full-on sad, but it looks like it isn't over yet. Still, maybe I shouldn't be comparing this to Switch's so much. It's good on its own and isn't as psychologically taxing.

Seriously it just boggles my mind how people like Meat. I can only think of two reasons really.
Haganai is stupid dumb trashy harem hijinx not meant to be taken seriously, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It managed to be legitimately amusing when it wasn't being cloyingly fanservicey, but even then with Sena fanservice is actually a positive for once!

Dirty Pair: Affair of Nolandia
This was a pretty serious miscalculation. Everything about it felt off. The direction was haphazard, the editing was confusing, the pacing was problematic, and the narrative was underdeveloped. The character designs for the Dirty Pair were distinctly different from the TV series (and even then inconsistent):
Why is Kei's neck so long and at that awkward angle? This change fits with the more mature tone the OVA was going for, and by "mature" I mean tentacle rape. The tone flipping gets pretty awkward: after an involved sequence of grotesque and disturbing illusions, we move to an extended sequence of the girls goofing around where the illusions are played for laughs. The story just doesn't know what it wants to be.
The best part was a chase sequence towards the end which was exciting to watch as it continually switched up the vehicles the two people chasing each other were using. Even then, the music was too cheery for what should be the push to a dramatic climax. What good there was came too little and too late to save this stinker.

I don't know if you need to "start" the series, but it's a very good OVA that doesn't require previous Macross experience.

I think that Yukimura's relationship with Kodaka is purely that between daimyo and retainer
though Takeda Shingen did have sexual relationships with subordinates, so...
