BRS 05
I don't even know where to begin in this episode.
How about with "it was the best episode in the series yet"?
That's not saying a lot, but it's the truth.

Macross Plus
The only things that I really didn't like about Macross Plus were SPOILERSGuld's repression of memories, Guld's death being glanced over so quickly, no real resolution with the General/Ghost craft/Millard, no catharsis for Guld/Isamu/Myung outside of the few bits and pieces in the last ten minutes, and not really giving a good motivation/direction for Sharon. Guld's memory stuff just felt really tacked on and unecessary. Surely, there could have been a better way of handling something like that or just writing a different scenario. It didn't really contribute anything to the story outside of a reason to split the three up back in the day. Guld's death was dramatic for about three seconds and then quickly forgotten in the midst of the climax. It was really sad to see one of the major characters just completely dropped like that. What were the consequences of this last chapter with the higher ups? What about Isamu running off? What about anything? They just left everything so loose that it's a little disappointing. I'm not saying I want everything tied up all the time with a nice bow (though this paragraph certainly sounds that way), but they could have done something with another ten minutes to conclude better. They tried to give Sharon a reason for doing what she was doing, but it was just super weak. Yeah, okay, you're trying to make Isamu feel alive/good by putting him in danger. Just could have been something more, but I digress.
Great choice, Macross Plus is sooooo good. The movie (which isn't as good) expands on the Guld/Ghost dogfight some.Yeah, it didn't ruin the ova, but it just felt like they really, really dropped the ball. Which, it's kind of odd, considering how well they had been balancing most of the characters up to that point.I'm with you on thinking it wasn't handled too well. Guld sacrifices himself then let's just forget about it!
It expands on some other stuff too listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross_Plus#Macross_Plus:_Movie_Edition
Typographenia, you're making me feel bad for watching all this derivative shit. Watch something airing already!
I might need to look into that, if only because I wouldn't mind seeing more of this universe.IF YOU'RE NOT WATCHING MACROSS PLUS MOVIE VERSION YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG
Is the Macross Plus OVA a good place to start with the Macross series?
Oh right, you were watching Rinne. Excuse me for forgetting.I'm watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Rinne no Lagrange. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!Wan~
Yeah, I wanted to reword that, but I was too late and wanted to forget about it entirely.edit: OH YES IT DID

Macross Plus OST - Voices
I have to say, I was pretty blown away with how much I ended up loving this. The production values were great, the score was excellent, and the overall look and feel of the world and its characters were right up my alley.
I like these more "down to earth" takes on flight and mechs. It definitely leaves orbit, literally and figuratively, a couple of times, but it's not enough to really ruin the gravity of what they're trying to accomplish. You really get the sense that the people that worked on this project were just as passionate about flight as the characters they were portraying.

The main character, Isamu (well, it really depends, since Myung and Guld both got a large amount of focus and screentime, but for my sake we'll say Isamu) was kind of an on-the-fence for me. I really loved him when he was in the cockpit, because his pure joy of flying and arrogant behavior was great, but he was too unlikeable for the longest time because they pushed it too hard. Guld was probably the most well balanced, but the stupid point near the end wherefelt really badly implemented. Pretty unecessary too. Just bleh. Myung was a pretty nice character to parallel the events of the test-pilot's dealing with becoming irrelevant, losing purpose, and so forth. I wish they hadn't made her such a "help me!" character so much, because when she decided to be strong, she was pretty cool.he realizes he repressed his memories
I'm sort of kicking around whether or not each of them was supposed to represent physical, mental, and spiritual (or an id, ego, superego), but I think I'll need to reflect on it a bit longer before going into it as a full blown examination. Right now I have Isamu as physical, since he goes for a very sensory driven existence of needing immediate gratification through flight, not caring about the music at the concert, following impulses, the very traditional piloting controls his craft has, and acting without considering others and consequences. Guld would be mental, as evidenced by both his way of flying, internal struggles against his race's aggressive nature,, and so forth. Myung would be the spiritual, as evidenced by the way in which the music is targeting specific feelings, her internal conflict with her emotions, dealing with loss of dreams, repressing his memories, and such. Like I said, I'm not really at a point where I feel comfortable outside of that, but it's sort of my impression with how the three were presented.the way she interfaces with Sharon
I felt Yoko Kanno really did an excellent job on the score, and the flying scenes were elevated with the spirit and energy of the music. It managed to capture that romantic feeling of flight and just give it a great feel that really mirrored Isamu's love of piloting. There were a few instances where the music didn't feel it quite matched the tone of the imagery on screen, but I still couldn't hold it against it because it was so nice.

One thing they managed to do that really impressed me was giving their cities and locations with large numbers of people the sense of actually being heavily populated. Every background character seemed unique, tons of details, and just had that early 90s view of the future executed in a way that felt totally believable. I don't know who is truly responsible for the attention to these details (I would like to think Watanabe, since I was getting some serious flashbacks to watching Bebop), but they managed to convince me wholly on the setting.

Overall, I really, really loved Macross Plus. It's kind of funny to see hints of things to come in some of Watanabe's later works (I know he was just co-director, but the pieces are there).
A little bland episode. Besides the first chunk of scarring Maria for life or something, it was a simple visit to Sena's house and getting her father's seal of approval. I did like the introduction of her father and butler which was pretty funny characters, and I liked that they showed the aftermath of Sena and Kobato's bonding time instead of doing a fanservice moment, even though they did do something like that afterwards, but whatever.
No worries!Oh right, you were watching Rinne. Excuse me for forgetting.

Hahaha, that's fantastic!Fun fact about Idol Talk: it has sound clips from porn videos in it. If you listen closely, you can hear them.and"Can you feel my juices around your rock hard cock?""Take a closer look. Mmm, Very nice."
That's an interesting head!
This is a show where some dude can lose like 100 pounds or whatever in a week, so yeah. The knight in the area 9
As Seven played some soccer in this episode, I felt a mix of annoyance at the way the plays were presented as well as some enjoyment of the, though the annoyance won out. For a show that seems to give half a crap about a semblance of reality in its presentation of soccer, there should be a little more restraint imho.omg she's so cool so dribbles every person on the opposing team like She's Maradona Baggio and Pelé rolled into 1
Most people will likely say "yay," but I give it a very solid "nay."Has anyone here watched Monster?
Any votes for or against the series?
Me too. Bad pacing + really dumb + takes itself too seriously = barf. Most people will likely say "yay," but I give it a very solid "nay."

Knight in the Area 9
Its difficult to believe, unless its normal practice, that an American team would go all the way to JPN to play a "friendly" match of soccer, as well as all players being JPN/ENG speakers, they could have stayed speaking ENG.
But fun match.
My biggest complaint was the utter lack of decent characters or anyone for the audience to really like (Me too. Bad pacing + really dumb + takes itself too seriously = barf.
My main problem is that the story is really really dumb and Johan is like some sort of magical supervillain that deflates any sort of tension the story may have.My biggest complaint was the utter lack of decent characters or anyone for the audience to really like (). I could have forgiven much in the way of pacing and story problems if there were some decent characters to make me feel like I wasn't wasting my time. Not to mentionbecause, let's face it, the main cast is pretty abysmal, outside of Detective Lunge and Grimmerthere is pretty much no gravity to any of Johan because we either just hear tons and tons of "well, one time he did X" or the things he actually does are so basic that it makes you wonder why he has the reputation he does.
Now the dog has to be put in a sweater. We have to go moe'er.

I don't see how we can have this discussion without defining what moe is.

This is a pretty awesome burst of action.
Football teams go to distant countries to play friendly matches when it's off-season, yeah.
It is the fourth beach/swimsuit episode, even they don't care anymore.

Well after this episode, I would say, it would take something huge like Sena being demon queen that murders orphaned magical girls or something for me to like her any less than Yozora. I actually kinda want Yozora to get friend zoned whenever this sudden revelation of her past occurs.
And, lol at Rika going EXCALIBUR!
It is a real shame how I missed the opportunity of seeing that movie at last year's SITGES International Film Festival of Catalonia. Have you seen it? Has anyone here some impressions to share?
Done.
