Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

The port on the top in the middle is the same as the 3DS, and the one at the bottom will be used with the new Zapper.

Also guys, watch that part of the trailer again, you'll notice there's no C button on the nunchuk and the nunchuk itself is built into the Zapper.

Not sure if you guys seen these pics, but fun facts about the WiiU controller:

As far as the internet knows 4 GBit GDDR3 or GDDR5 chips don't exist. I think 2 GB is very unlikely, and if Nintendo does it they'll have to use DDR3.

Thanks for pointing that out. Looking further into it, DDR3 might, surprisingly enough,be a strong possibility. The standard Power7 8-core processor has 2 DDR3 memory controllers w/ 100 GB/s bandwidth. Seeing as that design is going to be split down the middle and then some, one DDR3 memory controller with around 50 GB/s would be right in line with a balanced system. DDR3 clocked at something like 700 Mhz might fit the rumors of pretty slow RAM in the dev kits too.

Vigil still has their DSII demo that was scrapped from E3, they've had plenty o' time to polish that up.

It really doesn't matter, if Nintendo has all games under NDA right now.

If it's just one controller, it would have to be 2GB, wouldn't it?
2 or 1, that is, and if we're going with IM, then it has to be 2.

Charging and external HDDs, yeah.
And then any other peripherals that Nintendo might have down the line.
Is Nintendo still planning on supporting any kind of HDD?

Also I remember reading a thread in GAF about Sony losing a lot of money because they did not use proprietary HDDs. Would Nintendo be discouraged then because of it?

Would make sense of alot of things. Like why they were using an RV770LE in dev kits (it has about the proposed bandwidth despite the stock using GDDR3) and RAM described as "slow" (it's technically the same speed as 360's but at higher bandwidth). And I swear I heard a rumor that dev kits were using "plain old" ddr3 very early on last year.

If this is completely off, I'll stand corrected. My only source is Wiki (it's a damn Sat. night :p).

wikipedia said:
DDR3 SDRAM gives a transfer rate of (memory clock rate) × 4 (for bus clock multiplier) × 2 (for data rate) × 64 (number of bits transferred) / 8 (number of bits/byte)

Clock that DDR3 at 700 Mhz that's 44.8 GB/s. 2x the 360 and right in line w/ the rest of the proposed specs. After all, it wouldn't make sense to bottleneck the system in memory bandwidth at only 1x the 360 while everything else is 2x, 4x, etc. They know they need at least 2x the bandwidth to stream to two screens at once.

It's slowly coming together.

According to wiki the highest memory clocks on DDR3 SDRAM is 266 mhz, I think thats why they usually go for GDDR variants because they have much higher clock speeds.

^^^^
I'll have to look into that later but I swear I've seen it clocked higher by Samsung and such.

It's slowly coming together.

I'll be darned but I think it is. I apologize for the formatting errors and all before the edits. I spit ideas out faster than I can keep up with sometimes.

You know, I'll be happy if all we get out of GDC are some noncommittal comments from devs during interviews with key words such as "exciting" and "powerful" and references to nintendo's new receptive stance towards 3rd parties.

Not me.

We heard plenty of empty complements and non-committal positive statements from developers before/during/after the Wii's launch window as well. Many of those statements were them blowing smoke up Nintendo's ass, as their words didn't match the products that made it to store shelves.

It was a dramatic lesson. I don't trust 'em.

Do we know this, or are we just assuming it based on how much news we've had the past several months? (And the lack of Wii U logos on known titles, of course.)

I think the fact that Project CARS had to take the Wii U logo out of their promos is very telling.

so what will come first, e3 or speculation thread #3?

Spec Thread 3 easily.
I mean, we'll have done near 2000 posts today alone.

This thread makes the wait to E3 so much more agonizing. Why do I do this to myself?

Well instead of hanging out here, you could go sit in front of a TV, watch every episode of the John Adams Miniseries (or Game of Thrones,) take a sip of your favorite carbonated beverage, and by the time you're done you'll be 10 hours closer to E3.

Good point. Yeah, I think something's up there.

OT: A similar thing just happened in Japan: a "Lupin III"-themed event mentioned a trailer on the agenda: one for a new "Lupin" anime TV series that starts running in April (the first since the mid-80s!). The site took down the details later on, but the reference to "a trailer" remained. The cat's out of the bag, but they want it stuffed back in as much as they can!

True, but I'm just coming from the vantage point that we're not going to see jack until E3 anyway

Another point is; if there wasn't any NDA on Wii U games, we would have heard about some of day for a while now.

I'm guessing Nintendo's E3 conference is going to be absolutely packed with games considering that it doesn't look like we'll get much out of their GDC conference, games wise. I can only imagine that the games announced last E3 will all return in more polished and complete forms (and not running on "worse than 360" 360 graphics :P), every 3rd party game that's been started in the time since (or so soon before E3 '11 that they didn't have enough to show) will be debuted, a lot of multiplat titles like Assassin's Creed 3 and RE6 will be confirmed for Wii U, a few downloadable titles will be shown off when discussing Nintendo Network/eShop, Nintendo will announce about 4-6 games of their own, etc. I expect to know of an additional 30 Wii U games by the end of Nintendo's E3 conference, in addition to the sparse titles we know of now. Basically all the games that would have been announced in the span of a year, but weren't due to NDAs, will all debut in a 90 minute nonstop gamer heaven conference.
or so I hope...

Alright, I'm getting off the internet. I can't take any more of this.

We know Darksiders 2 is coming out for the Wii U, yet the Wii U logo isn't on any of their recent promo materials. If they can't talk about games we already know about, then some serious NDA business is going on.

Indeed.

Either Nintendo think they really screwed up the Wii U's first showing and think they need to have everything nice and ready before showing it in it's current form, or they are just very, very, very secretive.

They are preparing the bombs. Big ones.

The Ninjas got them by the balls, man!
