Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Something I have been wondering about the Wii-U's launch: if the best case scenario happens and Wii-U will have the best possible support at launch (RE6, AC3, COD, etc., plus Nintendo's own games), is there any chance it can have a userbase during its launch window to sustain so many high profile games? As far as I can tell, hardware seems to always be somewhat scarce during launches, so wouldn't it be pretty much inevitable that several games would end up with lacklustre sales?
Pretty much. With the best-case-for-gamers scenario, it's be a PS360 competition with a tiny percent of the userbase, plus competition from Nintendo.

Even a system like Wii with a healthy launch supply, software shipments worldwide were under 18 million by the end of 2006, and still under 29 million by the following March. That doesn't count the bundled Wii Sports, just to be clear.

Daaaamn! XD

BTW, could we see this on Nintendo's rumored app store?

If you can make shit look next-gen on things you carry in your purse
Then how can Arkam make 360 - Wii U ports that will look worse
Than the original? Your boys just lack skill, don't blame Ninty
Couldn't win a race against a Civic if they gave you a Bugatti

This alone has made this my favorite page in the entire thread.

Things only get worse in this thread *lol*

You see what you do to us, Ninty?

Yeah.. that's pretty damn nasty. But I like nasty. =)

BTW.. has anyone checked-out the "when are you buying the next-gen consoles?" thread?
Tiny sample, but it seems relatively positive for the U. Encouraging, nonetheless.

People can bitch and moan all they want, but when you put Mario and Zelda in HD, you get people excited.

Seriously.
We don't have any major Nintendo fanboys in the industry anymore.
Matt got a lot of flack, but he was so passionate about what he wrote.

Then he and Bozon left, and IGN became a troll fest.

What happened? I wasn't really keeping-up with the news cycles during that time period, to be honest?

Was he worn-down by Nintendo? His co-workers?

I'd love to see some balance back in Nintendo's favor in terms of media coverage. I have an extremely low opinion of most gaming "journalists."

Nintendo only dominates the handheld market and had a huge impact on this past cycle. And they've only been in the gaming scene for a few decades. And yet most of these site workers are happy to either write them off, wish for their exit, or ignore them altogether.

When I can hear a journalist's eyes rolling at the mention of the company during, say, a post-E3 roundtable discussion.. something unprofessional is going-on.

I have to stop. Invoking the SnesFreak Rule here - stay quiet before I say something honest and get banned.

Can I just say that Mario and Zelda have absolutely nothing to do with my excitement for the Wii U?

I know I'm in the minority on that, but Zelda's disappointed me two games in a row now, and the same old lore has been turned inside-out so many times that until they do something drastic to the franchise I can't even pretend to care anymore. And while mainline Mario still manages to mix it up and stay impressive, it's not really a shocking experience. We know it's coming, and we know it'll be good.

I'm most excited for the new experiences coming via Wii U. Nintendo's treading into unfamiliar territory in so many ways this time around (HD graphics, focus on online, building stronger relationships with Western devs, etc...). I don't think a lot of people really grasp how much a departure from their standing philosophy the Wii U is.

The newness of everything is what's got me excited. The game's really changed for Nintendo as a company and I just can't fucking wait to see what they introduce this era.

Yeah I always liked Matt. People gave him a lot of shit, but he always asked questions Nintendo fans wanted to hear the answers to in interview and really seemed like he cared about what he was writing.

Plus his sit downs with Perrin Kaplan were epically awkward.

The only thing that pisses me off about the Wii U is that the controller has a screen, so like with every handheld/device with a screen the first days I'll be more worried on cleaning it and hoping to not notice any dead pixels.

Then, the darned day that I find a dead pixel..and I cant' stop seeing it..even if it's in a remote corner and only noticeable when the screen's all white....

..while pretending to not care.

:p

Galaxy...not shocking? What do you want, Mario to stop being a platformer and start being a Star Wars dance game? :p

Why is the room green screened....

You know, it the decades that I've been getting handhelds and TVs and phones and PDAs and such.
I have never ONCE gotten a dead pixel.

Is it really that big of a problem, or are some people just seriously unlucky?

Aaaaah!

Now I'm going to have this new worry in the back of my head.. yikes.

u know i find that amazing u know. he was able to get scoops that NOBODY else could because of his passion and well, skill as a journalist. but people dogged him out so much and used to hate it. Boz too. now, look at IGN? a former shell of itself. sad

second to brochiller :P

Mario Galaxy blew my mind.

And Mario Galaxy 2 blew my fucking pants off. Best 3D platformer on this planet, no discussion.

50/50 in my case, last one been the nearly launch model 3DS.

Is no biggie, but darn it when I notice one I just can't stop noticing it. XD

"...you’ll want to check out issue 74 of Nintendo Gamer magazine, which has an exclusive first-look at Assassin’s Creed III Wii U. We’re the only Nintendo magazine in the world to see the game, so you won’t be able to read about it anywhere else. The magazine is on sale 23 March but we’ll have a reminder nearer the time so don’t worry about whipping out your diary to mark that date."

The wall is starting to crumble...

At least for Ubisoft.

The Galaxy games were the last games to make me get that "Nintendo-tingle" where you feel like a little kid and your eyes get watery with euphoria. Incredible. For anyone claiming that they've lost their game-making magic, these games are Exhibits A & B in the counter-argument.

Nice, they also mention this:
We don’t have to guess – we already know. The touch screen will be used for the game’s ‘Eagle Vision’ and will also display a persistent map. Fast-switching weapons will also be handled with the touch screen and there will be an interactive database to browse through. Finally, some puzzles will be implemented, which you’ll have to solve using the touch screen.
