I love that people in this thread almost seem to be acting DISAPPOINTED by actual news.

Speculation is more fun.
Isn't that right Cortez and Samus?

Timesplitters Nintendo: Exclusively for the Wii U. Summer 2013, it's time to split into Nintendo's Universe!

From the same article:

I'm calling bullshit. Levine kind of said they have nothing in the works yet. Junction Point seems plausible though.

It is possible that they are BSing.
But then, it's also possible that Nintendo approached him directly after E3 and asked him to make something.

It won't be Wii U exclusive, and considering it's just opening, likely won't be ready until 2014.

Far more chances that it won't be a complete exclusive indeed. But it could be a remake of an old Battlefield, a BF side-project, a port of BF3, all with additional content, features making a good use of the padlet, so it will still be a special battlefield for the Wii U :)

Concerning the launch date of this hypothetic game, yeah, 2013 if EA order them a quick port of BF3 with a rather easy to adapt FB 2, but more safely 2014.

I can only hope Nintend become smart and decide to put a hard drive on the Wii U instead of flash memory I don't see how they expect it to be an online gaming system without a decent sized hd to do patches/updates for games.

It'll support external HDDs for all that.
Seems fine to me, since I can get a larger HDD for less than Nintendo would charge.

superannuation, a much more reliable source, already confirmed "Wii U support" for Epic Mickey 2. Which could just mean tablet controls being added to the Wii version, but I doubt that's possible given how Nintendo has historically handled BC - namely, low-level emulation that walls off the additional features of the newer hardware.

Gaf. My mind is so occupied with this thing, that I have a hard time concentrating on anything else. Can't concentrate on school, can't watch porn, can't watch movies . It's only GDC and there's not much info to be expected, yet I'm already this hyped. This is having a negative effect on my life. If only Nintendo could be so kind to release some news. I don't think they realize how many peoples lives they are affecting. :(

The weeks before E3 will be a pain in the ass.

He wasn't doing anything in July 2011, and in November 2011 he said that there were no plans to bring Bioshock Infinite to Wii-U, but he did add "you never know"

In fact that is the interview they've posted as part of that very article, so it would seem daft for them to suggest he's making something unless he or someone else has said something since...

Welcome to GAF.

I've been using it as motivation to get big goals accomplished before bigger things come later this year. Moving from apartment to house, selling property, doing honey-do/home improvements for parents, etc.. it'll all be done before E3 or pre-order camping night, and I'll be able to enjoy a guilt-free week off from work for Launch Week!

I'm also doing many "I'll-cover-your-vacation" extra days at work so that when I ask off later in the year, they'll have little choice but to approve my requests. That, and I'll have lots of funding from overtime work.

Crazy how a little console launch can trickle-down to effect so many other areas of life..

I like that it'll support HDDs, but I don't know if the casual crowd will go out and get one. And that may eventually hurt downloadable smaller games. I think Nintendo's best interest is to include an internal drive and empower people to spend more money downloading.

And it looks like at least some in the industry see a lot of potential in downloaded games:

Didn't seem to hurt MS with the 360, considering the Core/Arcade model is the most popular version.
They'll just sell a Nintendo branded HDD and be done with it.

Would a 5400rpm 1.5TB HDD be fast enough to run installed Wii U games? Assuming we can install games in it like PS360.

I'm not sure that didn't hurt them. It was cheaper, so it was more popular. But it also arguably prevented people from downloading many games.

So yes it sold more consoles, but it also crippled their customer's ability to utilize their xboxlive arcade service, no?

Probably hard to come up with numbers, but I wonder if their downloadables would've done better if all consoles had an HDD.

And I can see that Nintendo wants to keep costs down and having HDD external is definitely a way of doing that. I just hope if they go that route they promote the hell out of their HDD and let people know the benefits of having one.

lol don't u know? this ALWAYS happens. massive hype, then comes down with a large crash. much like a sugar rush. it's always opposites day around here

By the end of the year, after the WiiU has launched, it will have lived up to its hype.

I would expect close to nothing at GDC. We got a confirmation AC3 is coming to WiiU, but that's hardly anything.

They just had to get an HDD for the system if they wanted it.
Same as here.

Cloud service.
Their unannounced ace in the hole

Wait.
What?

He said the WiiU version would be a port of the Wii version Epic Mickey 2 with tablet controls.

A PS3 and 360 version of Epic Mickey 2 is confirmed, so I don't see why the Wii U wouldn't have that version....I suppose with higher res textures and what-not.

No, he meant that if you played the Wii version on the Wii U, you could use the tablet controller.
Which he states (correctly) isn't really possible.

Ah, I see.

If you ask me, I think the Wii version is probably long-dead by now and we'll see it on WiiU outright.

Same as here.

I guess what I'm thinking (with no way to prove it) is that not many of those people DID go out and get an HDD, and therefore did not download many games.

And I think that a lot of people that owned the Wii wouldn't get an external HDD either. Nintendo wants to keep their huge casual user base, and hopefully many Wii owners will get the Wii U. But I think that without that built-in storage many won't be utilizing Nintendo's download service and that may cripple Nintendo's ability to sell downloadable games.

Of course, including the HDD may make the price too expensive for many of those same casuals, so *I* certainly don't know what the correct call here is, I just worry for Nintendo's digital download future if most of its userbase doesn't have any storage.

Nah.
It sold over a million copies on the Wii.
It'll get a version.

Well, a good medium would be a decent amount of flash memory (more than 10GB) and then expandable.
Downloadable titles wouldn't be very big, and if people were that dedicated they'd want to upgrade.

Ah, I see.

Doubt it, I don't think they'd leave 80 million potential customers on the table. And a sequel will be something previous owners (ie Wii owners) will be looking for.

What's the deal with the joysticks? Someone in the AC3 thread mentioned that they are sliders not analog sticks?

They're pretty much the same as the 3DS slide pads from what we've seen. However, the original design of the pad had analog sticks.

Well I don't know how development is going, but it just seems like a lost cause to create assets for both a PS3/360 version AND a standard def Wii version. The wii version will really hold back the possibilities and basically make it a separate development.

I can see it going both ways, but I don't see why an Epic Mickey 2 at WiiU launch can't still push a million units in the first six months.

The first one sold well because of a lot of hype and it hit during a great stride for Wii. It won't be in the same position next holiday to sell another million on the wii.

....although I'm prepared to eat crow.

Actually, they're different from the 3DS pads, but most people don't care and will shit on them despite being functionally the same regardless.
