In this case you might want to take it to an apple store, Anastacio. Just to see what they say. I really don't think unibody Mac laptops should be creaking.

Oh really? I thought it was normal. It's just creaking when I'm pressing down in the middle of it or typing fast. That isn't normal?

I guess it's too late to exchange, as I bought it in November last year. :/

Can't hurt to schedule an appointment and ask. I'd definitely go to an Apple store if you have one near by and mess with the Airs on display to see if their display models do what yours does. If not, you know what to do.

yeah i dont think ipad 3 will be able to run skype

You missed the whole point dude. Bravo.

Now that we're talking about Macs, is it normal my Air's fan gets extremely loud when I'm video calling? My gf could hear the noise on her end of the skype call.

And we don't have Apple stores here in Scandinavia. They probably won't even look at it, but I'll try go there.

Mine's creaking too, been doing that for the last year or two. You're not alone! :hug

... I did buy mine three and a half years ago though, so it's long out of warranty in every conceivable way.

Nokia N9 and Lumia 800 and 900 and the new Samsung 9 Series

looks sharp. Jury is still out on if the market will ever want to buy into WinPho7 as an OS and alternative to Android/iOS, though. As it stands, the answer seems to be as resounding a "no" as it gets. Last I saw, it was tracking (in terms of % of market share) as bad as or worse than Zune ever did. Not a good sign. BUT that phone is purty.

As we've said before, it's not just the physical device Apple rivals compete with: it's the ecosystem. See: thread title, Glocks, blah blah.

I'm more curious to see what the new Apple TV is all about than I am about iPad 3.

the physical device? or the OS? outside of 1080p/5.1, I don't really expect anything terribly interesting...but I may be under-estimating things.

Is there any phone or ultra book anywhere near as well built as the iPhone 4S and Macbook Air?

Asus Zenbook. People say it's a MBA copy, but it's an excellent copy with the unibody frame, zero flex, and not a single plastic part in sight. I even think it feels better than the MBA with a bolder metallic feel.

Yeah. Can't find it now, but co.design had a followup article a few weeks later about the success of Apple and its ecosystem, noting that while they thought the Lumia 800/900 phones were as good if not better than iPhones, they would not have nearly as much success (if not fail) because of the lack of a unifying and strong ecosystem (at least currently).

EDIT: God, what a stupidly long sentence.

Polycarbonate Plastic + Glass vs. All Glass and Metal. Lol, no fucking comparison, sorry.

that phone is pretty, man. It may not be as mature as the iPhone (colors tend to decrease that measure to me), it still looks really nice. I like how the color of the device is reflected on the OS tiles as well.

Asking me to be banned again? A poster above expressed the same trepidation about Cook, I just further elaborated on my own beliefs. And there's no need to worry about me interfering on your open thread during the keynote - I'm usually too busy with projects to post during business hours, and don't see myself being free anytime this week to indulge in this thread during 9-5, let alone during the conference.

I don't understand - should I just not restate my views when it's brought up in context? Should I avoid all Apple threads since some of you posters have already taken to me as some troll that's unable to be genuine. A simple go at my post history should be enough to show that I post in a wide variety of topics and usually try to further the topic in whatever thread I'm in. I'm not perfect, but no one is.

I don't want to be banned, but I'm also not going to act like I'm being bullied and not take part in discussions I am fully able of taking part in. I was bullied when I was younger and I don't like having that same feeling on an internet forum - of all things - when I'm well past my adolescent years.

Back to the topic at hand - Can't wait for the iPad 3! I have a feeling that the multi-color explosion in the banner could hint towards multi-colored iPad SKUs, a la the multicolored iPod Minis.

I'm going to go ahead and call you out on this BS post, because you tend to make these types of posts after a healthy trolling run. Trepidation about Cook?

Even the little moves - like the push towards providing shareholder dividends and matching charity donations - is indicative of a man who does not live and breathe the import of his company's products in the world. For Cook, it's the end of history with Apple. Now's the time for him to burnish his and the company's legacy and become just-another tech company whose inflection point has already past. It would sicken me if I had a shred of emotional connection to Apple.

This isn't 'trepidation', its 'Apple is 100% going to go down the shitter with Cook in charge, no ifs and buts about it, based on absolutely nothing!'. And you then state outright lies/falsities. Cook never, ever pushed for dividents. Where the hell did you get that from, your ass? He's said absolutely nothing about the issue. Matching donations? Really? I never thought someone could twist that into a bad thing, but then there's you. Apple made 43 Billion in revenues last quarter and have $100B in the bank. Richest company on the planet. Matching donations will not even make a blip on their earnings or cash hoard, the only effect is that they'll get some positive PR from it. It was unanimously praised as a positive move.

You're not 'stating your views'. You're stating extreme opinions as facts, you don't even use keywords like 'I think' or 'In my opinion'. Whether its the unavoidable downfall of Apple or your utter lack of comprehension when it comes to the basics of technology and displays, you flaunt your ignorance and state falsities as fact, over and over again, in such an inflammatory and hubristic fashion. That's why nobody can stand you. You say you were bullied when you were younger? Not to be blunt, but perhaps it's because you act in reality the same as you do here? ie. know-it-all stubbornness. Noone is bullying you here, so don't play the victim card. You repeatedly state insane garbage, which is fine once or twice, but you're a broken record. Also, I don't see how you're looking forward to the iPad3 as you state, since you already seem to have made up your mind about the product, and in your own words 'don't have a shred of emotional connection' with the company, which is code for 'I hate Apple but will pretend to be excited anyway so I can fake disappointment'.

Loving the iPad HD name. Much more marketable on what makes it mainly different from the 2, while at the same time, keeping the 2 relevant to sell.

Great idea. Apple has their shit together.

10/10

My thoughts on that matter exactly to date. and the driving reason why I'm not looking forward to the young man's thoughts come Wednesday. But who knows? Maybe he'll surprise with objective commentary! It's a possibility...and one I'd like to see.

Yes, a more durable, stronger, lighter, more practical design is definitely worse.

I don't have any data in front of me, so I could be persuaded to change my mind, but isn't aluminum better for the environment, as well as easier to recycle? I think this should be taken under consideration when talking about the practicality of a design and its material.

Edit: for the record, I think the Lumina is a pretty phone.

Do you think it would confuse a mainstream consumer? I can imagine people like my parents keep on asking..so which is better? iPad 2 or iPad HD?

I could see Apple doing away with iPad 2 if they roll out the iPad HD name.

I really like the Lumia, but really there is no comparison when it comes to materials used. Build quality, you could make a case.

I must say the level of disscussion here has gone way down. I feel like I am in a kids forum. Puts a damper on the fun. Ipad and tech should be celebrated here. What an achievement these tablets are. Looking toward to Wednesday but bittersweet without Steve Jobs.

I feel the same. I'm totally pumped for the conference, but I just had so much fun watching Steve do his thing on the stage. Granted, the 4S conference was clouded by the fact that Steve was on his deathbed so of course the mood was somber in some ways. But despite that, Cook and co. just didn't deliver the same as Steve.

As sad as it is, I watched the Macworld 2007 keynote where Steve shows off the iPhone for the first time. It's still amazing to me how standard all of the things he shows off are...but the people in the audience are losing their fucking minds.

"Here's a list of artists...but how do I navigate through the list? I just swipe with my finger!"

I'd like to make a public apology to Dreams-Visions

Yes, the hardware build quality is superior and I am now a Mac-Apple fan after being on the prowl for the comments defending Apple prices. I was wrong. You were right. You were all right. My next computer, tablet and phone will be Apple made.

How quickly we take things for granted.

Ha, I know. I watched that the other day, and it still amazes me how much we take for granted..

Edit: Damnit jts. Took the words out of my mouth.

I'm buying Apple stock tomorrow before the iPad 3 is announced. Fuck I should have bought stock when it was $300 3 months ago.

Maybe wait until after the announcement? Apple stock usually depreciates a little after an announcement, or at least has recently.

Usually it depreciates if the announcement isn't that great, honestly, at this point I don't see how they're not going to knock iPad 3 out of the park. Even if all they do is Retina, LTE, A5X, it's going to be BIG.

Could be a disappointment if it's not a quad-core, camera not good, etc.

There's a lot of hype around this, and I'm certain someone will be disappointed. But it never hurts to buy stock. It's been growing anyway.

I'll go ahead and +1 the HD name. If the rumors are true and Apple is positioning the new iPad as the premium tablet while continuing to sell the 2 at a lower price (unlike last year when the first gen basically vanished) it would really make sense.

A new iPad without a number would help preserve the iPad 2's perceived value.

haha I loved that conference. My goodness. That was Steve at his best. Inertial scrolling had people losing it. I loved the initial reveal about the three products being one and then the crazy pic of an old iPod with a rotary dial on it.

Using your finger on a touchscreen and having the interface react appropriately and smoothly was their Twilight Princess reveal moment.

it wasn't about what it did; it was about how it went about doing it. when seen though the context of the other smartphone devices available at that moment...shit was bananas. and rightly so. to this day, those things are the measuring stick to which other devices are measured.

The original iPhone was so mindblowing that RIM didn't even believe it was possible at the time. :lol

What's sad is that RIM still hasn't caught up to the original iPhone with their handsets...or perhaps more fairly the iPhone 3G since that one at least had an app store.

I always wonder how Apple claimed that they had Multi-Touch patented to death and now it's ubiquitous with touch interfaces on all devices. Are they licensing it out everywhere or did they not patent it well enough? I remember the gesture lawsuits back in the day, but I'm guessing the tech itself isn't proprietary in any respect.

...in fact I first remember seeing multi-touch at a TED talk on a huge piece of glass.

Either way, it's still crazy to me to think that all that stuff was considered bananas 5 years ago, and today it's "yeah...and?" The future rules.

Nothing will ever top Steve's iPhone keynote. It was just bonkers, and even EDGE 2G and crap pricing couldn't stain it.

So many great moments that seem pedestrian now, but were earth-shattering in 2007:

- Full, properly rendered New York Times website. The full Interwebs on a phone!
- Touchscreen cover flow was just gorgeous, useless as it was (and still is)
- Threaded SMS (not sure if BB had already done this, but this was huge for me, as even my high-end Nokia at the time had separate Re: folders for everything)
- Beautiful mail with in-line images
- Google Maps satellite view...in your pocket

Even without the App Store and Siri, iPhone still seems like it's from the future.
