Mass Effect 3 review thread

Jesus H. Christ. These buffoons never learn do they?Hopefully some semblance of critical thinking and reason, not to mention discretion instead of rampant fervor; will go into the review process when the next generation of consoles are released.

Not hating on the game, but good Lord, hyperbole valley.

Just played almost 4 hours of it on pc. First I have enjoyed the other games in the series with controllers on 360. I gave mine to my wifes family so I got her on pc. Would be nice to play with a controller. So I Xpaddered it. Just doesnt capture the magic I felt from the first one. Im feeling the story. Basically the only reason to complete is for that. The rest feels the same old.

Tell us how mad you really are.

OSCAR WORTHY GOTF BLUAAAAUAUUUUAUAUARGGHHHHHHHNNNNNGGGG......

games journalism!

It’s a game that you simply must play; one of those titles that will be remembered alongside GoldenEye, Metal Gear Solid, Halo and Ocarina of Time as one of the greatest games of all time. BioWare hasn’t just raised the bar; it’s sent it thundering into orbit.

I wonder if this quote will be remembered more than the game.

Nah, I'm sure your blood is boiling and veins are popping out your neck because another Mass Effect game is getting universal acclaim.

Carry on.

Honestly, you seem like the only person who's mad right now.

Anywho, I'm at least glad to see that I wasn't the only person who liked the game, although I am really surprised at the reviewers who liked the ending. Would love to hear from people who dug the final stuff in the game, not in this thread though obviously.

I only care about the metascore. That is fundamental, even more important than the game itself.

the scores the game gets is more important than the game itself?

my sarcasm sensor is overloaded....

I'm sure I'll see for myself, just as I did with Mass Effect 2 ( which also received wildly rabid numbers ) I enjoyed it as an experience, but as a game? Hmm, that is where the debate begins. I'm sure I'll enjoy ME3 for the "coolness" factor the title exudes which is an experience, but...I'll see how far Bioware has improved design and mechanics wise.

All I was saying is these um "people" have no restraint. I know its not their fault. I'm sure they are educated people.

Of course I'm mad because my GameStop didn't have a midnight launch for the game.

The biggest thing for me is going to see how my decisions from ME and ME2 effect what happens to Shepherd in ME3. All this "your choices matter and consequences will never be the same!!!!" shit I didn't see at all in ME2.

Can anyone who's played the game comment on that aspect?

Giantbomb scores

Syndicate 5/5
Mass Effect 3 4/5

So my $60 should go to...

Reviews are subjective opinions about the enjoyment of one video game.
If you only look at the score and do not read the review, that's your fault. After reading both reviews, I would buy ME3 over Syndicate. (I bought booth :p)

plus, those are very different games, so you might enjoy a story driven rpg / tps game better than a linear FPS.

Terrible scores across the board. Better luck next time, BioWare, if there is a next time.

a new trilogy, mass effect: the new republic, starring scott bakula as dr. sam beckett. he's a jedi from another time looking to put things right.

Do the reviews address the issues a lot of gamers had with the demo? For example:

- Outdated graphics
- Embarassing running animations
- HORRIBLE clothing textures
- No weapon holstering, not even on PC
- Lip sync is awful
- No controller support on PC
- Disgraceful writing quality; I repeat, dis-grace-ful.
- No trial as initially promised
- No inventory
- One button for everything even on PC

World's best game ?
World's most misrepresenting demo ?

I can safely say that the first half hour/hour is the worst part of the whole 30-ish hour game (took me roughly 28 hours).

It's a bad first impression, and was a terrible choice for the demo.

Does any reviews tell us whether the full version is improved in various things the community was upset about in the demo? For example:

- No controller support on PC

Shhhh! All lies.

I actually liked the ending. I think it's getting way too much hate. Some of the most lauded sci-fi writers ever have some really bad plot moments. Bradbury had a short story about a kid who crashed his ship on a fatally cold world, and in order to stay alive, ran next to the ship's firing laser beam to stay warm so he could find supplies. That was simply retarded; doesn't make the author any less good at his craft.

I think the ending has a lot of merits worth discussing if you actually think about it and don't join the zealous vocal group of pitchforkers.

Too bad Jeff felt a bit disappointed by it, though I did feel his review was pretty favorable overall (at least for the single player). Curious to hear what the rest of the Giant Bomb crew thinks about it. As for the rest of the reviews, damn, there's some high praise going around there.

I will say one thing about that demo, it felt like the scripted events in it were shoehorned into an engine not originally made to accommodate for them. They were really off putting in their execution and just felt a bit off. (this is from playing the 360 version)

That's one thing I am willing to bet has made it to the final game.

On PC, limiting your frame-rate to 30fps does a lot to make the Reaper invasion look less like a carny ride and cut scenes look less like a soap opera.

That will be reason why ME3 will go down in therms of awasomnes when people will use to graphic and start to think like ME2 case was.

At first ME2 was briliant and when you start to think about it more and more you think it's crap.

Hope Mass efect 3 delivers. But i fear those are just oveblown scores like GTa4, Skyrim,ME2 had.
