Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

You're rather hard guys, an apparently confirmed developer is giving you hints of the good impressions generated by some Wii U games at the GDC

And a media agency present in the conference is indicating that the Wii U is at the heart of the discussions of the hundred of attendees, all professionals from small to the biggest studios.

It's news.

It's not Mario Universe screenshots, it's not a complete spec sheet, but it's news, relevant to the topic & the GDC.

Now, if you prefer talking about Zelda SS for the 100th time and forbid these kind of infos... :)

Do we...even really know if John Harker was just trolling GAF or not? Who is he, and what reason does he have to be at GDC?
I've never seen John Harker trolling. I for one trust him. He has nothing to win by making shit up, but he has a lot to lose. He has also proven several times that he has inside information.

Are we all in agreement then? Either real news or no news? No teasing.

Teasing is a lot more information than we have gotten up until now. I'm fine with it, and the discussion spurred is a lot more relevant than most of what has been posted in this thread.

Well, I don't think that we will get anything from Harker. But good news that the Wii U seems to be a highly discussed subject at GDC.

Cool!

They licensed Scaleform, Kynapse and HumanIK, but not Beast? No need for pre-baked GI? Or will Nintendo simply provide their own solution?
Their hardware will do it real time! :P

Wii U games are hot HOT HOT [/rubyrhod]
Didn't he only say 'hot' once? Wii U = 360 confirmed :^\

Who's John Harker?
An evil, evil man. Although not as evil as Ideaman.

Sure, but it was to be expected being the first next gen console coming out soon. I want to hear some known devs/media say 'wow' then I'll start getting hyped again. For now I'm sitting on the platform, watching the train go by. It's the only sane thing to do.

John Harker is good people.

I don't really want to hear that developers are only looking to jump on-board with Wii U at this point. Sounds reminiscent of Wii - so many missed the boat and the gamer suffered by having such limited third party offerings from day one.

Hey, it's not a "you'll say wow news" huh, i just warned you while translating a part of the article :p

A canadian french article about the Wii U being the center of interest of GDC attendees

The teasing & hype-building part:

that

+

Harker previous tease

= Wii U positive news, more possibilities of leaks (maybe not images or spec sheet, but interesting bit of data concerning their development process on this new support, some of their ideas concerning the padlet, etc.), good impression & anticipation building in the professional circle.
Yep, good sign.

John Harker
Truly appreciates the art
of making up shit as you
go along

That's not really news. Or even unexpected. The Wii U could be two Wiis between two slices of rye toast
smothered in thousand island dressing and swiss cheese...mmm...
And it would still be the talk of any game conference after all this secrecy.

Wii U seems to be the biggest and most discussed thing a GDC.

That's good sign, is it?

It's the first of the new consoles. Of course it's going to be discussed at length. People are hungry for next-gen already. This one has been far too long in the tooth.

Again, the situation is not clearly the same since the Wii U is capable of good HD graphics and the Wii wasn't because it didn't have the shaders and the power.

You know. At some point in the future. I'm going to look back on this thread and laugh.

.........After I've stopped twitching......

How do we summon Harker back for more information. Candle light ritual? Ouija board?

Well, by seeing some members starting to unleash their nerves toward these infos (because impressions, feelings pattern FROM THE INSIDE, ARE information. It's not scientific fact like component calculation prowess, it's not screenshots, but it's news), i doubt that it's encouraging him to return here or others to dig the net for some leaks :p

Hey IdeaMan, thanks for keeping us grounded.

I'm feeling pretty good so far. I like that the Wii U seems to be on everyone's minds.

Nintendo has yet to state an official goal for the Wii U as far as sales figures go like they did with the Wii (Wii goal=sell more than GameCube did). I wonder what they're realistically aiming for?

Thanks for trying IdeaMan ;)

I really appreciate your very small bits of info.

My point was if they were only starting to make their Wii U games tomorrow, we'll be facing a year of a complete drought for anything that's not a port or a first party game.

hey I'm down, any publicity is good publicity. If wiiU is a big focus at GDC, I can't imagine what will go down at E3.

Oh shit! Now we're getting somewhere.

I guess now that things like this has started to come out, I was told last year that there are more hardware/tech providers involved with Wii U than past Nintendo consoles. Before you ask, I wasn't told who or how many.

...and that's the somewhere I'm talking about.

That is the best stuff I've heard in a while. People are always focusing on specifics, wanting to know exact specs etc, but this is giving us a glimpse at the larger picture - and it looks very good. :)

We didn't get any info since E3, aside from the NiN and the NFC. It's not my fault Nintendo doesn't want to tell us shit, even though they promised twice we'd hear about the Wii U before E3, the last time was at CES, near 3 months ago and still nothing.

Wow, hard to believe CES was 3 months ago. It feels like just yesterday we were watching in horror as Eliza Dushku wasted precious time with Reggie by pretending to have played any Nintendo games since the SNES.

Saying "Wii U games are hot" is not enough to please GAF IdeaMan, you should know that by now. And Harker too i suppose. He should have given a little more details like "It looks much better than BF3 on PC" or something similar, if he didnt want GAF to go crazy.

yeah it's really hard to believe because it was less than 2 months ago...

Not to be blunt but yes. If WiiU games just look like ps3/360 games then there isn't much to celebrate. If the online system isn't relevant, there isn't much to celebrate. After years of disappointment you can't really blame the average nintendo fan for being so jaded. It's more of a defense mechanism really

I like the teases, why would we want to forbid it? We're only a day away from finding out what they mean.

Both New Super Mario Bros. and NSMB Wii. have sold more copies worldwide than Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 combined. This tells me that there is a market for games with classic, or what some would even dare call outdated game play. If a new 2D console Zelda gets made--whether it's inspired by the original LoZ or LTTP--prepare to be surprised.

Nibel already covered most of what I was going to say, but I also don't think Zelda can be compared to the success of NSMB. Super Mario Bros. is one of the most iconic and recognizable video games of all time. Meanwhile, I would say that 2D Zelda doesn't have any more brand recognition than the series as a whole.

NSMB was also helped by the fact that (before 3D Land) the 2D and 3D Mario series are actually quite different. Someone who isn't interested in exploring galaxies or cleaning an island might still be interested in a game where you run from left to right. However, I don't see a situation where people who are intimidated by a dungeon-crawling 3D adventure game would be excited to pick up a similar game in 2D. The audience for a 2D Zelda is, by and large, just a subset of 3D Zelda's audience. As much as I would like it, I think releasing a 2D Zelda on Wii U first would be bad for sales and would hurt the brand overall.
