Finally managed to get through and order an Apple TV. I'm still debating the iPad. Going to talk it over with the wife before deciding.

Just ordered 2 iPads, but not for me, doh!

Got iOS 5.1 finally, install took forever. First new feature off the bat is slide lock screen vertically to go to camera

It's cool and *seems* faster, but the area to slide is small. You have to slide on that icon... And no double tap home button required

Confirmed for 16th.

Today's haul:

64gb Ipad Wifi
Apple TV
Navy Smart cover

Loved my Ipad 2 16gb, but will always get the largest capacity model going forward.

Blah this store failure is getting annoying. I'll check back later after thinking about buying this some more.

Lol. People wait days in line here in Los Angeles at Apple stores. Screw waiting in line, I have to work. We might even get 1 day before everybody in line gets their iPad.

Well, I won't. Because it will be delivered to Kentucky and I'll be in LA.

Thats horrible out of box, It's garbage, I wouldn't recommend that to anyone...
however if...

Anyone know for sure will XBMC work on AppleTV Revision 3 hardware?
If it can playback full 1080p 40Mbps(ish),straight blu-ray to MKV(non reencodes)its still got potential to be the best.

At this point the WD Live Plus stream plays everything I throw at it for 100bucks.
I'd love to have a better choice to set friends and family up with that don't have a HTPC.

XBMC still relies on the hardware decoding otherwise it has to brute force it on the CPU. I think it's only a matter of time before it is working on this new Apple TV, but what Raistlin said has sorta dampen things.

So I just got through on the site no problem...ordered a Black 32GB Wifi without a hitch.

Are people still having problems with the website?

Downloading 5.1 now.

I hope Japanese Siri is available.

Did everything and put my card information... payment authorization failed. A minute later I got call from Bank of America and now I'm waiting for the fraud analyst. Thanks B of A !

42.5 watt-hours of battery, for the same 10-hour longevity as iPad 2 had from 25 watt-hours. That new screen devours energy.

Yeah, I was fumbling with that icon just now, tried to tap it, hold it, didn't work, had to slide it up.

The icon seems a bit out of place, but it works just fine once you get used to it.

run plex on it and have a PC elsewhere in the house that can handle transcoding duties if need be.

Any word on whether the new IPad employs the same laminated screen technique as found on the IPhone 4? Recall some saying priorctocthe event that the process was too expensive/time-consuming for a larger display.

Does anyone know how fast the price drop on the iPad 2 will hit Best Buy? I'm assuming right away but no signs of any change on their website yet.

I'm still deciding whether to be a cheap as and get the 2 or hold out for that new new. Everything seems awesome about the new model but I honestly don't think it will make that much a difference based on how I'm going to use it.

It's not horrible by any means ... and should be fine for what they plan to offer in terms of services (though the lack of DD+ for Netflix kind of sucks).

.I was hoping for something way better then whats been out by other vendors in the Streaming video devices.. Its very disappointing..where as the ipad 3 hardware is.."wow kick ass! lets see somone else match that this year"..very exciting. The appletv is ..ya ugg.

Errrr ... that's what I'm stating. It can't do that.

Sure they'll be able to run XBMC on it, but it physically can't support the correct profile and bitrates for BD content. You would need to actually transcode the content (not just remux to MKV).

Another point of mention is there is no indication it can pass any of the high res audio codecs over HDMI. Assuming that's definitely the case (it's possible it may but they didn't bother mentioning it because they have no use for it) ... you'll need to transcode audio to FLAC (or DD if you hate good things) for XBMC.

Bummer was hoping to be at the point of just ripping to MKV containers and having streaming devices that wouldn't require re-encoding this year.. I pretty much just re-encode so the WD devices can handle them throughout the house and to bring to the trailer at this point.
Ah well maybe next year.

Order was processing, and then the website locked up. Never got a conformation e-mail, haven't been able to get on since.

Paint a picture for me gentlemen.

-What's it like living with a 16GB iPad? Are there any problems solved by getting 32GB?

-What are the odds I break this thing if I get a smart cover and something like a Sofshell (protected back and lip around the front)?

-If I do break it, will the kind employees of the Apple store help me out without a protection plan?

A $500 purchase is quickly turning into a $800 one.

I just want to get this straight. I won't be using 4G whatsoever since that isn't available where i'm located, but I so have a 3G sim that I use via a USB dongle on my MBP for internet.

Now could I just cut this sim into a mini, stick it in the iPad 3 and have no issues? In other words, 3G is entirely the same, correct? Also, is there hotspot 3G capabilities or not?
