What on earth. It's already preparing for shipment?? Won't let me cancel or change the order.

This is the apple way. I've never been able to edit an order once I placed it. They must have a 2 minute window before preparing for shipment because I've never been able to edit/ cancel an order I've placed with them.

Awww, I was hoping for new ones.

the last update was a few months ago where they changed the interior colours of the plastic ones and changed some colours.

no change to the creases or the addition of a back shell. you’d still need third part stuff to cover the back.

I’ll be reusing my red leather one that I got for the ipad 2. love that red.

I just realized Apple wouldn't be able to double the capacity of their devices to 32gb/64gb/128gb even if they wanted.

They corner something crazy like 60% of the global solid memory market. There's not enough manufacturing capacity.

Insane.

Thanks by not bothering to answer my question- I asked you what 'high expectations' would look like, apparently you have no idea either.

High expectations would be something that is surprising or revolutionary. Everything here is evolutionary.

Sure, most of this stuff was in rumors. But s what? The rumours were damn good to being with. That doesnt mean I cant be impressed that they come to fruition. Thats an incredibly odd perspective. So if the rumors were that this thing would have holographs, and it turns out to have them, its 'not impressive' cause it was rumored anyway? Many times most rumors dont even pan out. iPhone 5 anyone? I was hoping we'd get most of the bullet points in the rumors, and I got everything and then some. So yeah, I'm impressed. Most people in the real world would be too, considering this vastly exceeds anything on the market right now. It's ridiculous you would mock me for being impressed with something that is considerably better than anything else out there. Thats an objective way to look at it, not comparing to some fictional product that you cant even articulate to me.

You didn't say it impressed you; you said it exceeded your expectations.

The hardware is nice, but it is by no means is surprising, or unexpected.

Again, you fail to justify anything you said. Good job. I've asked you twice now what would be impressive. You can't name a single thing. Were you expecting it to be triangular, octogonal, or have holographs? My range of unimpressive and impressive is comprised of real world realities and expectations. Apparently yours aren't. The price could have been bumped. The screen could have been worse. The GPU could have been slower. We might not have gotten iPhoto. etc.

I'd agree with that, except for the screen. Sure it's taken for granted now since the rumors have been around forever ... but if one really hadn't heard those rumors, there's no way this was expected since there is nothing else with such a high resolution at this size.

I dunno, I'd say it was expected. People guessed the resolution before the iPad 2 even came out. That's how expected it was. It's no surprise that the iPad was going to get a resolution bump at some point. It was highly expected that it was going to be something that Apple could push as Retina since the iPhone 4 and now the 4S push that feature. The iPhone doubled its resolution for 4x the pixels when it went from 3GS to 4 since it's an easy scale factor. Doing the same for the iPad seemed natural so I don't see how such a high resolution was unexpected. That's not even looking at various leaks such as icons and other stuff that got released over time. People called it a year ago but it came a year later.

What the hell is the difference between being impressed and having ones expectations exceeded? By definition they're the same thing. Wow.

so yeah I didn't watch the 4S keynote this is the first one since ipad2. All i have to say is that Steve just had a way with presenting anything.

Yeah, it's nice that I can keep using my red too.

Got in a preorder for a Black 32 GB w/ Verizon LTE a couple hours ago. Not sure if I'm going to keep it, I might just pass it on to a client of mine who is desperate.

Ok, well the haptic feedback stuff for starters would have been nice. We all knew the price wouldn't change. Apple doesn't do that typically. They keep the price points the same but replace with a new model. There's a history of what Apple does so you can see the pattern. How about changes to the OS itself? We got none of that. I could give a whole list of things, some reasonable, some un-Apple like, but how does that change the fact that there is nothing surprising here? Nothing revolutionary? You seem to continue to ignore the fact that you said it exceeded your expectations. What were your expectations?

He certainly did, but I don't think Tim Cook did a poor job. Obviously, no one has quite the same charisma as Steve, though.

No. I believe online orders have to be mailed back to Apple at your expense.

Not sure if you guys were having fun with me...sarcasm is hard to detect over the internet sometimes...

Is that true? Looking at the pics - it looks like they are all the same color now. As in if you buy a red one, the back is red as well. Where as my launch ipad2 cover - my red has grey on the inside.

they did that a few months ago with the plastic ones. the insides got matching microsude colouring. the leather ones always had matching inside colours.

also, orange was replaced with a dark grey model.

I hate myself a little bit for knowing this.

I got the exact same thing. Hope I made the right choice going with Verizon. Here in New York, AT&T's LTE network is reportedly faster than Verizon's, but the general consensus is that that's due to hardly anyone actually using it yet. That may change starting on the 16th, and I don't trust AT&T to keep pace with Verizon once the iPad LTE flood hits...

You will have to pay the shipping charge to return it but no restocking fee.

Why would I ship it back? I can just return it to the store...

edit: caught your stealth edit :p

Two questions for ye Apple faithful (almost assured to get lost in a sea of posts, but hey why not try?):

1. When you're streaming music from an iOS device to an Apple TV product, does it pass video as well as sound through the HDMI port? Ideally I'd like to buy the thing, hook it up to my receiver, and have some sort of on-screen display on the TV. My current receiver has a very basic black and white song title & artist deal when you hook up an iPhone via a wired connection, and I'm wondering if Apple TV has something similar or if it's entirely displayed on the mobile device.

2. To those getting an iPad at 32 or 64GB, how do you justify the extra storage space? I've had a 32GB iPhone 4 that I've not come close to maxing out and am thinking that if I dive in, I'd go with a 16GB model but am curious how people fill up their iPads.

Bonus third question- how is the audio quality when you're wirelessly streaming music from iOS to Apple TV? Any quality loss?

What the hell is the difference between being impressed and having ones expectations exceeded? By definition they're the same thing. Wow.

tbf, your first post says, "Apple exceeded every expectation I had.".

Then a few minutes later you posted a list of a couple things you thought should have been improved (like front facing camera). We're all obviously ordering it but your first post did come off a bit melodramatic given it was mostly the expected upgrades. There was nothing really earth shattering about the upgrade. shrug

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...re_for_existing_ios_based_apple_tv_users.html

Apple has released a free software update for second generation Apple TV users, bringing the revised new interface demonstrated for the new, third generation Apple TV.

The new update replaces the main horizontal menu with five app-like buttons: Movies and TV Shows (for buying and renting content), Music (for accessing content from iTunes Match), Computers (for connecting to local iTunes libraries via Home Sharing) and Settings (which brings up the standard configuration menus from before).

The new interface also brings app-like features formerly hidden in menus to a Home screen page familiar to iOS users, listing Netflix, MLB, NBA, NHL, Apple's movie Trailers app, Wall Street Journal Live, YouTube, Vimeo, Podcasts, Internet Radio, iCloud Photo Stream, the MobileMe Gallery viewer, and Flickr.

The new layout more strongly suggests the potential for a third party App Store for Apple TV, something other "smart TV" vendors have already launched (although there aren't very many killer apps for TVs that have yet appeared, outside of those Apple already bundles.

I don't know much about the apple tv questions but after having a iPad 2 32gb.. if I were purchasing a new ipad 2, I'd probably go 16 GB. That's assuming you have no interest storing tons of music or what not on it. I don't use my iPad2 for music so that helps a ton but just games & apps take up a decent amount of the 23.8ishGB I get from the 32GB model. The retina display should increase that a ton. I'm cheap but just didn't feel comfortable ordering the 16GB model. I'm honestly a bit surprised the 32 wasn't the base model.

There are several games that are around 1GB each, plus 1080p video movies & TV shows are pretty large.. I went with 32GB so I can keep 4-6 movies on it for travel.

I've never preordered an Apple product before... what are the chances that the UK store comes back up tonight? I mean... I guess it's run by UK staff? So they might wait until morning...

Ok, well the haptic feedback stuff for starters would have been nice.

The haptic stuff was pure bullshit dreamed up by morons who wanted to read too much into the invitation Apple sent out. You were seriously expecting a tablet with haptic feedback? I guess every tablet announcement for the forseeable future is going to be a pretty big disappointment.

Yes, it has several options. Song title and artist always on, or Song Title and artist show only at the start of a new song, along with stock photos of wildlife, photos you point it to on your computer, or a flickr account or contact. I believe theres other options as well that i haven't played with.

32 gig so i can put a substantial amount of music on there, or videos, or games/apps.

Bonus third question- how is the audio quality when you're wirelessly streaming music from iOS to Apple TV? Any quality loss?
pretty good, none that i've noticed, i have it hooked into some nice speakers with a nice amp. I definitely notice some of my more poorly encoded music though, but thats no fault of the appletv or iphone/ipad.

To answer your 2nd question:

Tons of comics and PnP RPG PDFs plus the usual games and music, etc.

Easily fills up a 16 gig.

BOO YA! It seems the only major thing added with the new Apple TV was 1080p support, so I am not that upset over having just gotten an Apple TV a few months ago. The software update fixes much of that now.

heck, I don’t even have a 1080p TV. so no Apple TV upgrade for me.

hooray for free software updates.

No I wasn't. Where did I say I was? He wanted an example of something that was of high expectations or unexpected. Haptic feedback would have been surprising and unexpected.

So is Siri on the "new iPad"? and if yes... is it also on the iPad 2? Because iPad 2 has an A5... which is the main reason Apple said the iPhone 4 didn't support Siri.
