From the 10 minutes or so I watched, I thought Cook was great. Definitely a different style than Steve, but definitely Apple.

I think thats a pretty good way to put it, he had his own style while still being Apple. He really appeared to have the spark of Jobs where you feel that he believes in the product and want to change the world. I liked his little quirks like his smile and the thumbs up. He had some humor and the jabs at Samsung was a nice touch.

Ebayed my 32gb iPad 2 last month for $500, preorded new 32gb today. I guess every year it is going to cost me $100 to "upgrade"

Couple questions.

Is HD now just 1080P? I can't seem to find specific labeling so I'm just curious if it is the new standard.

Are shows I bought in HD now able to be deleted and re downloaded in 1080P universally from iCloud?

If I buy a show in SD, then a couple months later buy it in HD, does it show up in my iCloud purchased page twice? I know when i tap to download an HD show it asks if I want it in HD or SD so if I buy it in SD then later on HD, does it just give me that prompt?

Thanks.

Yeah, I think I said this before, but with Steve his style was "I know this is fucking cool, we built it, now you buy it." With Tim, while he's not an innovator like Steve, you can see that he knows the products are cool, but he has a little more of that smirk where you can see he's thinking "Wow, this is cool" while you know Steve was thinking "I made this cool."

Got "Oops!" when trying to place an order. How long would charges take to show on online banking if they did charge anything? Not sure whether to order again or wait until the morning.

The same here. I don't think it went through but i'm not sure if I will order again now...

Finally got past the oops screen and got it ordered. Phew. 32GB White Wifi. Right off to bed, have to get up in 5 hours.

Best thing ever.

I've done exactly this for the iPad 2 and now 3. $600 initial investment + 100-150 per year to upgrade. As a mobile technology enthusiast/Apple fan, that's totally fine by me :)

FINALLY. 32GB black ordered. Now to bed. Will browse smart covers next week instore - are leather or plastic generally preferred?

give it ten minutes. A few of us finally went through.

I'm always in awe at the resale value of Apple products. Makes it easier to consider a purchase, knowing I can drop it later for a small loss if desired. Haven't bought anything yet but I may jump on a MBA this year..

You guys are still having problems ordering? Sucks. I got mine after the second time the store went up.

16 GB wifi in black.

Yeah, this is what finally pushed me to get an iPad this time round. I had been back on forth on the iPad 2 for awhile but managed to hold off because I wanted a 'retina screen' plus knowing that Apple releases are so predictable that you either jump in day 1 or just wait. So yeah, got a 32gb White Wifi and if it doesn't fit in with my lifestyle I can sell it for either what I paid or possibly more in the first couple of weeks owing to shortages.

Have there been discussions on Tim Cook's keynote performance? I thought he was fantastic. He was flat during the iPhone 4S reveal (for obvious reasons), but I thought he looked very comfortable out there.

edit: nm

ugh, why don't we close these threads when the new one is made? So annoying.

Is it typically possible to jailbreak/unlock an iPad and use a different data service than AT&T? $30/month for 2GB is fucking ridiculous.

The screen isn't fused to the glass like the iPhone, is it? That made a major impact on me. At least as much as the pixel count.

"To make sure everything on the new iPad looks crystal clear, Apple engineers elevated the pixels onto a different plane — separating them from the signals."

That's all they said, I think.

I'm really impressed at iPhoto for iPad. Looks incredibly intuitive, powerful, and slick. Finding similar photos in analyzing the current photo in a split second is awesome, as well as the UI and the journal thing. I can't even imagine an Android tablet app of similar quality and usability, because of the infinite amount of screen sizes, resolution, hardware power, etc. This is the kind of optimized, targeted software that unified hardware makes possible.

Yeah he was much better than I expected him to be. Great emphasis, expressions, pauses for dramatic effect, etc. Seems much more comfortable and poised than last time.

I still can't believe the official name is 'The new iPad'. Seems like something from the Onion.
What would have been wrong with iPad 3?

Did you get the new iPad?
You mean the iPad2?
No, the new iPad.
Whats it called?
The new iPad.
Erm.. ok.

Also, that 'Resolutionary' headline is just painful. I mean.. there's no way your average person will even get it. How many potential iPad buyers can even define resolution, let alone having the term butchered and combined into another word? It just looks like an awkward typo.

Haven't seen the keynote yet (will watch when I get home from work) Did Scott Forstall present anything? I love that guy.

The official name is iPad. "The new iPad" is no different than when they say "The new iMac".

So what is with the name?

I suppose Apple wants us to stop expecting a reinvention of the wheel and product redesign with every yearly iteration.

I wonder if the next iPhone will just be "the new iPhone"?

Should I be worried my order is still processing. I saw on my bank account my "available funds" amount has decreased, but my actual funds amount hasn't changed.

I think that's definitely going to happen, yes.

Surprisingly enough, he was nowhere to be seen! I like the guy too, but whatshisface (the fit guy who presented iPhoto, forget his name) was really awesome I think, seemed very genuinely excited in demoing.
