From Software considering development for smartphones/tablets

From the gametrailers interview this article is talking about:

I asked From if there was any movement on the requested Windows PC port of Dark Souls, but the developer didn't have much of an update for me.

"That's going to be a decision left up to the publisher, Bandai Namco, but yes, we have seen the comments and we do know of the desire for a PC version," Takeuchi said.

The petition is at 88,550 signatures now by the way.

It would be cool to see what they would do on Tablet.

Then again, I don't care how many games they put out or in what franchises, I just want them to get ACE The Final team back together and in shape to make ACE5.

I remember reading the first Armored Core on PSP was solely about mech management with automatic combat.

That could work quite well on the ipad.

You'd have to pay me to play that, perhaps. :3c

Don't worry, its just an iPhone game for the console based Dark Souls 2. iOS users play a point and click adventure, where they play the part of the dart-shooting assholes in Blighttown City. iOS gamers have been annoying some console gamers for years, so they may as well do it in a real game.

Maybe they get an RTS mode where they choose where black phantoms spawn. Paying $4.99 unlocks the ability of placing 40 in one area!

"hardcore games for hardcore gamers" lol... they make niche games but by no means hardcore.

expect even shittier framerates on ipads or iphones. But i applaud their recent effort to include nice apps for their games, ie: Armored Core 5 app that lets you assemble your mech.

These guys (From) make some pretty darn good games from a design perspective so I have faith that they would bring their touch to whatever platform they are developing on. Tablets and phones are far, far from my preferred gaming outlet but if From had a cool title that could only be played on my iOS device then you bet your biffy I would check it out.

(P.S. From Software - please don't stop making cool games on the consoles and definitely bring your stuff to the PC pretty please!)

Ok, I admit it. I laughed IRL.

Yeah.. I have to admit that this is the first thread title I've read on the gaming forum that has saddened me. I would hate to see From waste their talents on mobile gaming. Things must be tough for them, financially.

If I was a smartphone/tablet maker I'd fund their development. Imagine all the money to be made from replacing all that broken hardware.

While the team is pretty small, they are super talented. (I have walked past their offices a few times and I so want to go in) I don't see them all jumping on a iOS project but maybe a few will try out things. I think they will always been a console developer but they should at last bring games out on PC also.

Dark Souls 2 ASAP!

Wasn't there already King's Field games on cell phones in Japan? Also, King's Field Additional I & II are pretty cool games. The were more like Wizardry titles. I thought they utilized the King's Field mechanics quite appropriately in those games. You could bring up your shields in real time during fights and battles were 1 on 1, I believe. They were definitely different games than the traditional King's Field titles, but they certainly weren't bad.

I don't care if they make phone/i-tard games as long as they don't resurrect King's Field exclusively on that shit. Please, From Software, just bring back King's Field for Vita. You made two PSP King's Field titles, Vita is like BEGGING for one!

Touching on other matters, Takeuchi said that the company would like to return to the King's Field franchise, and that it's currently considering a PC version of Dark Souls.

Sweet Jesus, I'm coming!

Weren't the Additional games quite lazy? I recall they used the same environments and labyrinth between the two titles, and both were released about a month apart from one another..

I found it confusing to navigate the game world because everything looked the same in terms of level layout.

I saw the thread title and, as my eyes scanned from left to right, I went from happy to sad to somewhere in-between.

FS developing more games is a good thing in any case.

FAKE EDIT: And holy shit, King's Field might not be dead and Dark Souls might come to the PC?! *swoons*

EDIT : The thing that killed King's field for me was controls/pacing. If they return to it please be third person... Athmosphere was great, but IMO Demon/dark's is the superior formula.

There are four console KF games, and all of them have slow, deliberate pacing. It is a trademark design choice across the entire series.

If FS were going to speed the next KF up and make it third person, then it wouldn't be KF anymore... so there really wouldn't be a point to using the KF IP in that case.

I don't want an iOS game at the expense of a new Souls game but I think they could do something in the vein of King's Field or Souls and have it be awesome on the platform. Like a deeper, more expansive, more mechanics heavy Infinity Blade.

Shouldn't this be in the title? It's 50 times more awesome.

Really hoping they go forward with the PC version of Dark Souls. That's pretty much the sole reason why I haven't bought the PS360 version yet.

Edit: Somehow this thread has taken me to the depths of despair and now I'm soaring the skies. Would like to return to King's Field? Be still my beating heart!

Third Person King's Field is pretty much Demon/Dark Souls. I think, to differentiate the two they need to maintain the pacing of the original King's Field. The controls definitely feel a bit archaic though as familiar it is to me I'm sure modern first person gamers would feel odd playing with the traditional King's Field controls.

why the heck are they wasting time with PC, phones, or tablets?!?!

just keep making Demon's Souls 2 or Dark Souls 2

Yes, I believe King's Field Additional II was more like an expansion. It was practically the same game. I kind of look at the games as one title, to be honest. I really like how the implemented the endurance bar/meter from King's Field in Additional. You could also bring up your shields and block enemy attacks real time during battles which was something the console King's Field titles never did. In fact, only From's original Shadow Tower game allowed this (Abyss didn't even have shields). The labyrinth was filled with traps, pits, and puzzles too. It certainly was an interesting spin off. Just like most KF fans though, I prefer the console titles, especially King's Field IV.

King's Field REALLY, REALLY needs to come back. It's such a different beast compared to Demon's/Dark Souls. I can't believe there are some people wanting King's Field to be 3rd person or faster paced. Guess what, you already have two games like that, they're called Demon's Souls and Dark Souls! As much as I love the Souls games I wouldn't want a straight up Vita port/sequel. Leave that for the consoles. Try something new with the Vita and revitalize your classics at the same time. Do it!!!

I had it, was awesome.

AC: Formula Front, if I remember it right.

Would give all of my dollars for AC:FF on iPhone.

Battle your way to Anor Londo from a distance as you swipe your screen throwing arrows and fireballs against skeletons, iron knights, and various other enemies in Angry Dark Demon Souls coming to IOS soon!!!

Dark Souls doesn't need analog sticks or buttons - just make it on rails with auto run, tap the screen to attack! shake your ipad for heavy attack.

:(
