What? What is this? Can we delete photos from the stream on the iDevice now?
If so, that is awesome. I like having the stream on, but my two-year-old takes tons of pictures using her iPod and my stream is hundreds of blurry pictures of the floor and stuff. But since I am running XP on my computer, I can't use their program to edit my stream.

If I can delete pics from the stream now, I'm upgrading all my devices tonight. Or almost all my devices. I'm thinking about jailbreaking my iPad 2.

EDIT: And what is the deal with upgrading again? I can't remember how it worked last month when I upgraded my iPod to 5.0, but if I want to upgrade my phone and iPod, I will need to hook it up to my computer so it can make a backup, right? If so, I don't know what to do, because I don't have enough space on my HDD to backup my phone. I know that last month when I upgraded the iPod, it wanted to make a backup and since there wasn't enough space, I lost everything and then spent all night adding everything back.

Does a 2 year old really need an iPod Touch? And what are they taking pictures of? Serious question. Why don't you just disable photostream on that device, instead of wasting bandwidth uploading and downloading hundreds of blurry photos taken by a 2 year old? Just go through them once in a while and copy the ones you want. Seems like a masisve waste of server capacity etc.

After I updated to iOS 5.1, I noticed that Google and Yahoo are no longer part of the default group of bookmarks in Safari. Did these vanish for anyone else? I think some others vanished, too.

I now have only Apple, My Verizon, iPhone User Guide for the default bookmarks.

So I hate cases but part of me feels like I should have a little protection.

Should I just get the apple bumper? Anything similar/better/cheaper that doesn't add bulk or compromise style?

This is for a 4, not 4s btw but that shouldn't make a huge difference.

Does anyone feel like Siri (this has nothing to do with iOS 5.1) dosn't work as well as it did on launch day?

I don't know its strange the 1st weekend I had it, it seemed to work flawlessly and had a lot fun clever responses to everything.

It seems like now its buggier and works a lot less of the time than it did before. Anyone else noticing something like this?

Also this is just the Beta of Siri correct? Does the full product ever intend to launch/be used by 3rd party apps.

Bumper actually seemed to scuff up my Iphone 4. I wouldn't go that route. Maybe I just had a bad experience. I love my gunmetal Otterbox! I work in a busy warehouse though, so the extra protection is needed.

Don't know if already posted, but now there's a little speaker symbol next to the track that is playing, when you're browsing the tracks library on the iPhone. Nice little touch.

I really can't prove it one way or the other but it feels that way. Siri seemed to work better when it was just a separate app, but even then I noticed things on the backend would change randomly (for example, sometimes they had movie listings, sometimes they didn't and referred you to the web). It's a work in progress but I think the progress on making Siri better will be fairly slow because Apple's other priority is rolling out Siri to as many different markets/languages as possible. Was a little shocked when Tim Cook didn't mention that Siri already supported Spanish.

Skype seems to have some rogue background processes on both the iPhone and iPad with its latest version.

I haven't loaded up Skype on my iPhone yet. What is it doing and how worried should I be? Skype seems to get buggier with each update which I don't understand at all.

I love stuff like that. You can also swipe left or right from the camera screen to your photo album now.

btw.

where do you go to read about short cut key phrases when texting from the iphone?

I vaguely recalled OMW =on my way and I used it the other day.

I have this case and love it.
It also gives great grip.

Sometimes if I have it in my multitasking tray, it'll log in (I can hear the login sounds) and start running. Even if I used it like 1 day earlier. It happened on both iPad and iPhone. So I just remove it from my multitasking tray after use.

Well, of course a two-year-old doesn't need an iPod Touch. It wasn't bought for her, I bought it for myself when I needed an mp3 player for a scheduled deployment (after someone from HipHop GAF ripped me off for theirs). After getting my 4S last month though, my wife and her have been the ones using it the iPod the most. My daughter just uses it for watching youtube (and taking blurry photos).
Before bed, she'll lay down with my wife and watch videos of cupcakes or Peppa Pig or Dora or whatever.
I try to limit her time with it too, because what two-year-old needs their nose buried into the screen of an iPod all day? It causes some problems with the wife though, because she uses it sometimes to keep our daughter busy, as a babysitter.

I could turn off photostream I suppose. I would have to copy all the photos I want off though, because I think if I turn it off, it will delete the photos from the device. Or I saw something pop up similar to that I think when I selected the option once. But I should probably just try to teach her not to open the camera up as well. She has no reason to be using the camera app.

So after a good half year or so. What cases/screenshields/etc are yall packing on your phones right now?

Currently nude, because... I feel like it lol.
I use this:

My buddy had a Candyshell on his 3GS and I loved the way it felt and the protection it gave. So I grabbed this on the cheap on Amazon along with some cheap screen protector. Best screen-protector I have ever used too. Easiest I have ever applied and the perfect transparency and perfect thinness.

I have the same case. Fantastic.

4G doesn't mean anything.

I have been trying to figure this out. I have the 4S on ATT with IOS 5.1- So even tho it says 4G-it's not actually connected to the AT&T 4G LTE network.

Pretty smooth on their part. Say it's 4G and no one will know the difference cause 99% are to stupid to notice. I fucking despise AT&T

"4G" is used by ATT and TMo to connect to their HSPA+ towers (basically anytime you have access to towers that can go above 7.2mbps). The iphone itself is limited to 14.4mbps, but the towers themselves can do up to 42mbps currently (Skyrocket for example).

I wish they would just stick to speed rates. =/ I'm perfectly happy with any phone that acan do 1.5mgps to be honest. Charge me less and cap me idgaf.

Yeah. Whenever I used my buddies 3GS, I told him I would get a Candyshell whenever I got an iDevice because I admired it so much. I wanted one for my 4th gen Touch but could only find the rubber Speck pixelskin or whatever it is.
I wanted the black with gray accents Candyshell like my buddy had, but I decided I liked the blue on this. It pops nicely.

From every review I have read for it, it is supposed to be really good. I haven't dropped it yet since I got it last month (of course I will now probably in an hour or so), but the gummy stuff inside is supposed to be great and shock absorption and protection.

The case for my new iPad is not a Speck though. The guy that sold me the 'Pad threw in his $70 Griffin Survivor case and that thing is nice as hell. I love the ruggedness of it and how it is built to military spec. Reminds me a lot of Pelican cases or other stuff I used to use for transit or storage of govt assets. The port covers are brilliant. Truly a great case.

You can disable the camera app with parental controls.

colton's facebook fan page is now timelined and unreadable. seriously timeline sucks

and he's gone through and deleted a whole bunch of posts but did he expect any less? I wonder if like heather (from TOPCHEF); he'll get hatemail, phonecalls and death threats

Okay quick question...

How do I force notifications for my calendar? I have it set up to notify me an hour before an event, but it never does. Even my all-day events don't get notifications sent to my phone.

I definitely miss having that from my Droid Pro, and I know it's possible...it's just not telling me. Hell, my eBay alerts notify me. What am I doing wrong?

You could go into Settings->Notifucations and make sure Calendar isn't off the list for some reason. You can also choose there what kind of notification you want (pop up or banner) and other things.

Other than that, it sounds like you set up what you were supposed to. I get my alerts and they show up in the notification center.

After updating to 5.1, I was looking at my photos and a video I had deleted months ago showed up in my Photos. Anybody have this happened to them as well?

Fucking pissed.

Woke up and my phone won't turn on.

Connect to itunes/cpu and says my phone needs to be wiped/restored to factory settings.

Why would this randomly happen? Will I be able to get my save games back?

I regret buying this thing more and more every damn day.

return it, get a new one, your hardware is borked.

or return it, and get a different phone, if you can.

Plan on it.

Never had any issues with either of my old androids, but this thing has been a constant pain in the ass.

Probably my most regretted electronics purchase ever.

So I have been running 5.1 since release and I have to say, my already quite good battery life has gotten pretty awesome!

My last charge gave me 5 hours 49 minutes of usage with 1 day and 20 hours of standby. Anyone else seen dramatic improvements?

My time didn't change for daylight savings. Guess I can't have it automatically set the time anymore, shows the wrong time now.

EDIT: Actually it's giving me the right time but the wrong "current location" - my phone thinks I'm in Chicago (one hour behind) but I'm in the east coast right now. And I can't get it to detect the correct location :-/

EDIT 2: Fixed! Turns out I had disabled location services for time zone settings. I forgot I did it long ago to conserve battery!

To those of you planning on selling your 4S to upgrade to the eventual iPhone 5/whatever the next iPhone is going to be called, when do you plan on selling it? I definitely want to upgrade when the time comes and I'd like to get as much back as possible, but this is my first iPhone so I'm unsure of any precedents when it comes to selling them.

When does Apple usually announce their new phone? When is the best time to sell the old phone? Does carrier matter(I have Sprint)?

Isn't the iPhone 5 theoretically several years away?

Hey, iPhone-GAF....can any of you testify on how the pure-white color of the iPhone 4S holds up after extended use? I want to get a white iPhone but I'm worried there will be discoloring (yellow tint?) after lots of use. Does this happen with Apple's stuff?

I've had this happen once when I was using an older version of an iOS beta release. They expire after a period of time, so at a certain point after installing a beta release you have to update. If you've been backing up your phone regularly through iTunes or iCloud you shouldn't lose any saves, though.

If that wasn't the case for you then I'm not quite sure why else it would do this.

Pretty sure it's a non issue as it's completely covered in glass so you should be fine.

got this random bug. never happened before 5.1.
the keyboard would stay there after going to the spotlight search screen and then back to home.

a reboot seems to have fixed it.
